I am probably going to sound mentally exhausted, because it's been a long day...
So, how I got here:
I've been collecting My Little Pony since ~2012 with some random pieces of merch and the minifigure sets, starting with the Apple Family set. I first focused on G4, but even within G4 I was expanding over time what types of merch I was aiming to collect. My sisters were lucky enough to have a few G3 and G4 items, which wound up with me. I was lucky enough to get some G1s from a coworker in 2021, the Show Stable with Baby Starburst, Cloud Puff, and Firefly, which set me on a path to start collecting those and simultaneously G3. With G5, I've been trying to keep up to date, although a few have escaped me. All of that resulting in the pics below.
These girls overall have been with me through the latter half of high school, undergraduate school, graduate school, my first jobs, my first full time job, my entire dating life, and most recently my marriage and my first house (a rental, in this economy ; I'm not rich, but it's a combination of time, not really buying anything else with my disposable income, and thrifting/aggressively using eBay auctions). So they've been one of the few stable things in this part of my life, pun intended.
I didn't get all of them to show in the photos. You can tell the bottoms of the shelves are cropped because I just couldn't fit the whole wall in the photo frame. They aren't even all in the room, though this is definitely ~95% of them. I don't have risers yet for the shelves but a lot of the shelves are two or three layers deep. A lot of my games, puzzles, and displays are cropped by the closet and my playsets, books, and cards are cropped by the photos. The Mimic and the Rapunzel in the picture are customs, but my real Rapunzel is hiding around. I still can't justify the cost of the real Mimic to myself. The Rapunzel was at a deal. (And you can see the Postys have their permanent home on the custom shelf with them!) There are a few Equestria Girls dolls in the room that I got from thrifting lots and don't really care for. My small blind bag sets, Build a Bears, and a few random things are the only ones not in the room itself.
The room is still a partial train wreck, but it's in the final stages now at least. Until this past October, I was the trainwreck; I had to keep telling myself I wasn't a hoarder, trying to live with basically almost all of those stacked in my bedroom and a storage unit.
BUT all of that to say - this room was a long time coming, and even though it's been hours and hours of work for about two months now and will continue to be work for the rest of the year, I honestly feel happier every time I come in and get to look at them. Taking them out of their storage and moving boxes to see long forgotten friends was like a thousand Christmases all at once!
I eventually want to do a video tour of some sort, because that would be the only way to capture them all. As soon as I can get them all finally squeezed in and straightened up, because I know they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing shelves right now. And I know probably a dozen other people have said so about theirs, but I too want to run a museum for them in my local area one day.
And yes the internet router is in there. Ponies control the internet, duh
Edit 1/13/24: I finally had the chance to do a full video of the room!
