I just came across this and thought it was so much better than the English and French opening theme songs for Friendship is Magic.
Actually, I think the new show has the worst opening of all of the series in English. :frown:

It's a catchy tune, to be sure, but in terms of fitting the content of the show, the English wins out. The Japanese theme is basically about getting pumped up to talk to your crush in the hopes that they'll change your future. It's entirely designed to promote the idol career of the girl who sings it. (She voices Pinkie Pie in the show, so it's not like it came completely out of left field!) That's how the industry works over here...kind of a bummer, but that's how it is.

In terms of foreign themes I do like, I'm all about the Italian :) If you haven't heard it, here's a link: My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Intro Italian Version W/ Subtitles - YouTube

The Italian and the Japanese theme of FIM are definitely my favorites as well. I don't really like the English one either but I don't really like any of the MLP themes..Oddly enough I enjoy the extended FIM more than the cut version.

Something I do like about the FIM theme is that it's quite modern without losing the "innocent sounding" theme song. Fits the whole premise of the show that way.

Thanks. The Italian version is so pretty. This points out very well what bugs me about the English. The French version I can listen to because I don't feel like it's gasping for breath. But, someone can write about friendship in a way that is more emotional and uplifting.

Since anything animated is pretty much anime in Japan, I've watched my fair share of animes and a lot of the times anime opening themes have little or absolutely nothing to do with the show... it's either just for a catchy tune or most of the time promoting a voice actor's work.

I love em' both.
