The FiM/G4 fans are so annoying! And I'm not talking about fans that used to like the other gens, too. There is nothing that annoys me more than "missing" knowledge. I mean, I posted the "Runaway Rainbow" movie on YouTube with Rarity (G3). Look at this comment.

i thought rarity was white with a purple main and her cutie mark was three diamonds o.o diffrent
And on my "Friends Are Never Far Away" video.

fim is the best version of all ponys XD
WHAT IS THIS
RAINBOW DASH ISN'T THAT CLASSY
AND SHE HAS WINGS
AND I LOVE HER ;_;
Yeah, so, not trying to be mean, rude or whatever, but these new fans are annoying! Everyone is free to like whatever they find interesting, but their comments about other generations being old and less interesting than G4 are horrible! It's a nightmare, everypony!

Probably, if they wouldn't comment so much, the new series would be 20% cooler. Just kidding.

HA! I am a FiM fan... but only because the show ended up being better than expected. I had no choice, I was sucked in.
Those comments are ridiculous.
Actually, I was afraid of FiM at first... because Rarity turned white and gained old-RD's snooty, fashionista personality, and Rainbow Dash grew a pair of wings. It really isn't the other way around! Even my 4-year-old (then 3) daughter was confused about the changes (although she immediately loved it anyway, because she loves anything pony related, except the "funny looking ponies with the big heads" (I swear, I did NOT influence that opinion!)

Nothing like good Pony Drama to start the day off right, eh? *LOL*

I've noticed that on YouTube, and it's really annoying. -_- I can understand if they're young, but there are a lot of older fans who say stuff like "Thank Lauren Faust for making this series good!". Seriously? Just leave it alone.

I have a lot of internet buds who are bronies and don't like the earlier generations because they're too girly.

Some folks can be convinced of earlier pony greatness. To the rest, it's like talking to a brick wall. I think FiM is great for bringing in new blood as well as renewing it (like me). You'll just find a few duds along the way. ;)

I really think a lot of this kind of stuff is a matter of the bronies not being very educated when it comes to the older gens. I also feel as though a lot of them are not aware that My Little Pony has had a very dedicated community for a very long time.

While I perfectly understand not wanting to bother with the other gens, I think they just need to be shown that there is rather large group of us who love them all. And really I've found that most bronies are very respectful of the older generations, it's just a vocal minority that I find to be a bit grating.

I honestly feel that some more communication between the two halves of the pony community would benefit everyone. While I post much more here and on the Arena, I still hang around on Ponychan a little bit and I really don't think that either method of enjoying ponies is wrong or better than the other. I have noticed however that both the collectors and the bronies seem to have some misconceptions about each other.

All of this is part of the reason I am so excited for our meet in Ontario this summer, and to see what everyone has to say after the Fair. Im really looking forward to seeing the bronies learn more about the collectors, and vice versa :)

I understand.

I am a long time fan of ponies {as long time as I can be considering I'm 23}

And I like FIM but not particularly G4s.

I get what you are saying completely..

I don't like the fans that have just arrived to the party if you know what I mean.
Especially because alot of them are so judgemental to the rest of the generations.
Most of them are elitist...

It is a real shame...

:gonnagetit:

I am very new to the world of ponies, and was introduced via FiM, but am in no way an 'elitist' and am coming to love all ponies! I used to watch the first series when I was very young. I remember very little, except that I loved it and I remember some of the toys I had. This gave me an immediate interest in the G1's again, so maybe that's where I'm different.

Without Generation 1 we wouldnt have all other Generations...so Respect:)

I've been a MLP fan all my life (since we found out they existed when my parents got their first jobs and we got cable TV and started going to stores), so I'm a devoted fan of all generations, and it really puzzles me when I see competition between generations! "I hate one generation but love another" makes no sense at all to me. Perhaps G3 (especially 2003-2007) is more "girly" than the others, but you know, sometimes that's exactly the mood I'm in, and sometimes that's exactly what I need to see for that moment, so to me, they all have their unique places, none more or less important than another. They're all great, and they all have great talent behind them and they all hold my most cherished memories! I was never happy when one generation ended, but I was always happy when another began.

I didn't even realize that this kind of stuff was going on until the Fair, chatting with a couple members made me realize this was happening...

I guess I'm in my own pony world at times. After discussing and reading a couple of things I would just like to say that we should (or maybe I should) be careful not to judge ALL of the newbies. I do feel as though there are some that are rude and just ignorant to the facts but that can be said about any community or even RL. Do remember though that G1 comes before 2, 3 and 4's so much love/respect should be given :)

I will continue to judge things/members as them come on a one to one basis and not dwell on the puke that some decided to post. I love almost all generations and will keep it that way.

I had a friend who just got into the new show watch over my shoulder while I was drawing firefly--since there were no colors, she thought it was Rainbow Dash!

But once I explained it, she was instantly fascinated, hunted down the old cartoons on youtube, and now likes older generations too.

So I guess ignorance isn't that bad in the end?

I dunno, I kinda feel bad for people that shut themselves off completely to history & that's what this seems like to me.

I was horrified to see such negative remarks on the MLP Facebook about the SDCC pony which Hasbro realistically doesn't "have" to do, but it appears they want to do for the fans. To say that because it isn't 't FiM, it is "crap"...yikes.

I suppose nothing really surprises me about some of "them" anymore. It kinda saddens me, cause it's almost like some of 'em want to rewrite what is such an important part of pony history. G1, G2, G3..all of those ponies that made it possible to re-make the ponies into G4.

How frown-worthy to live in a completely closed off world, only living in you/your desires, & being totally unable to accept that something you love does indeed have a past that was there long before you. Most people cherish the past of things we love, but it seems like some of the newbies don't really care about that. It's heartbreaking to think MLP history, what made the ponies so loved by so many, may end "here" w/some people. :nodno:

Thankfully it appears to be the more vocal of the newbies, cause there seem to be some awesome boardies that love G4 too. While I'm into G1, as it was my childhood love, I love all the other Gens too...even G4 & own a few of those too. :)

To each their own, I suppose, but I just can't imagine any pony or any show teaching THAT hateful of a lesson - they need to watch the ponies more carefully ;)

Sorry...I ranted a bit, but I had to finally let it out. *long deep breath* :cheshire:

People really should be a lot more accepting that everyone has different tastes. For anyone to say that anything pre-G4 is crap... that's just uncool. Some people only like the older ones, and not G4s, after all!

And it's all part of the same franchise; variations on a theme. Granted, it IS weird when they decide to drastically change characters (Rarity, I'm looking at you!) but in the end we all know it's fictional characters, and they can be rewritten by whomever has the authority to do so.

Personally, I love G1 and G4 toys, and enjoy FiM. I think the older MLP show/movie lacked plot, and was pretty much just a giant ad for the toys. But I also know there are people who really enjoy the old stuff, either because it was a part of their childhood, or just simply because! I would never tell them they aren't allowed to like it. :)

"They don't have plots" is a common offence to me. MLPT and G3 have very well put together plots. I can't think of a single element in their stories that can't be tied into their established plots either. The fact that the plots didn't insult my intelligence by jumping out and explaining their existence is a major part of why I enjoyed them so much. And the fact that the challenge to overcome doesn't often take the form of a "foe" character or the complete destruction of known civilisation doesn't disqualify them as plots. I use them now to get violent imagery out of my head when I feel overwhelmed by it. Each series has it's special and unique purpose for me, and I enjoy them all (and their plots) equally.

(I'm using the writers' definition of a plot as described in common English dictionaries.)

About what people were saying on the first page, I don't see how older generations are too girly. Not with big danger like midnight castle and the return of tambelon. I think everyone can appriciate that. And if anything that's LESS girly than fim. :)

I've been trying to decide what people meant by saying this generation or that is too girly, but I finally realised I was missing a definition. Well, I went on google and found one that I think is suitable for our situation.

girlie [ˈgɜːlɪ], girly
adj
suited to or designed to appeal to young women

Since I don't see that as a bad thing since that's actually what appeals to me (otherwise I'd be on a Transformers trading post if such a thing exists, which would be, uh, um, boieyiey), I'm curious what it actually means to people who are saying certain generations or series are too girly. In some cases, it seems merely to suggest an excess of pink coloured objects on screen, but it clearly has deeper meanings in many cases. Without the help of a dictionary, the most objective definition I could come up with was that there was a clear majority of female characters. I don't think anybody can deny that, so it clearly has another meaning.

Edit: The only two other definitions I found were clearly inappropriate (1: scantly clothed or nude females which I don't think applies to ponies who "don't normally wear clothes" - G4 Apple Jack; 2: males exhibiting feminine traits).

Yeah, I can't say I know exactly specifically what the people had meant by it. Just a general idea. Im curious now...
