G3 Halloween Hat Question

I need a witch's hat for a custom. I know nothing about G3s so I type in "My Little Pony Halloween" on ebay. Sure enough, two ponies with hats came up: Abra-Ca-Dabra and Star Song.

1. Are these the only two ponies with witches hats?

2. Do the hats fit well?

3. Can you take off the annoying pink band on Star Song's hat?

4. I can't find any loose photos of Abra -- does anyone have one? Her hat looks more witch-like but it is hard to tell when she is in her bubble.

5. Has anyone ever made a custom witch's hat?

I recently found star song's hat... lol... I had no idea which pony it went to, because I don't remember ever buying a halloween pony.

the hat is big, it sits loosely on the pony's head. it won't fall off with a gentle nudge, but it's in no way secure.

2. Do the hats fit well? Abra's does, pretty well anyway. Her hat has a clear elastic band that goes under her head, so it doesn't come off easily, though only the tips of her ears come through the ear holes.

3. Can you take off the annoying pink band on Star Song's hat? Not sure, don't have that one.

ooooh... the pink band on star song's hat... no, it can't come off. it's part of the plastic hat. you could paint over it, though.

Towards the back of the hat the orange band is stiched to the seam that holds the black together, but I think that you might be able to take a seam ripper to it...or it could even be glued. I just looked at mine and it seems that the orange band is glued to the black part, so I am sure you could remove it easily enough.:eek:k:
 
SS's hat is solid plastic, so it's one of the clone pose ressup pieces. it fits nicely on alot of pony heads though-i had my G1 Kya in Northstar's pose, wearing it all October and it didn't harm the pony's ears at all/ like i said though it is all solid plastic so you'd have to paint over/remove the pink paint on the band.

I was planning one for a G1 for Halloween, but it got buried with a lot of my other projects. But its not complicated really, You need posses only basic sewing skills. I suppose you could get a little fancy with putting chain or wire into the brim seam to make it hang just right, but depending on the fabric and drape that could work out fine on its own.

I would recommend felt if you make one from scratch, because it doesn't need finishing like other materials and doesn't fray. As for the band across Abracadabra's I would slightly be concerned that it may also be there for support of the top portion past her ears. So you might need to replace it with another ribbon if you find one to remove.
