Howdy all!
I've been a fan of MLP since I was a kid in the 80s, watching it on TV. One of my favorite ponies was Firefly. Inspired by the new show and some of the customs my friends are trying their hands at, I decided to tackle one myself.

The first I started was a steampunk inspired fakey but I haven't completed her yet XD
My first complete custom is this one, a G4 Firefly!

Fittingly, she began life as a G4 Rainbow Dash. I took off her cutie mark and eyes with acetone. She's been repainted with acrylics and spray sealed. Her lightning bolts are inspired by Ms. Faust's concept art for Firefly back before she got the greenlight for MLP:FIM. They've been done in blue (supposed metallic, but it doesn't show up well) model enamel paint. (the enamel is under the spray coat too)

Some of her paint got nicked when I re-haired her and I don't know what to do about the way her neck looks, but her head turns and she's kinda cute :) She's been haired with a custom blend of Water Nixie and Forget Me Not. I added more holes so she has a super-thick mane. I know the colors don't match up with the G1s, but I thought the combo would work and I think it did!

alas I'm at a loss on what to do with her hair. I kinda like the slightly ragged look, but I'm not sure on how to get it to fall the way I'd like. at the moment it kind sticks up all over unless I brush it down.

anyway, here's my first completed custom!

She looks fantastic! I love Firefly as a G4. :)

Rock-on! Lookin' so new! You know it, divine!

Oooo, I'd seen your WIPs, but not the final. She turned out awesome, Lan!

Sweet looking custom. Those eyes...just love them on all the new ponies XD

Thanks all! I wasn't sure how she'd look in the end and I think she looks pretty good :D

I think you did an awesome job! I know a lot of people doing customs are having issues with the split in the neck. Doesn't seem it can really be helped. She looks great!

How hard was it rerooting? I can't believe how tiny the G4s are!

Thank you so much!

I don't have a real rerooting tool (I have a med size doll needle I cut the eye of at an angle, and that I have sunk into an old wooden spoon and held in place with a TON of duct tape, since the hole is WAY larger than the needle)

anyway, I ended up expanding all the holes as I went with a thumb tack. I shoved the thumb tack in then grabbed some hair and put it on my makeshift rooting tool, then took the tack out and shoved the hair inside. It was hard. probably harder than it would be with a proper tool since the eye was kind big and was rough and ended up getting bent a little. the Tack was a Must though as I wasnt able to shove it in without pre-drilling the holes as it were.

this is also the first time I've re-rooted a mane soooo I don't know how hard it compared to the G1s and G3s. I have some glorious hair for a G1 Glory bait I got off ebay. My plan is to restore her as glory with a slightly darker mane since she's really not in that bad a shape. (Death by Bougainvillea and Hyacinth)
