Hello everyone! I have a 2010 Pinkie Pie and Star Swirl with hair that falls to the touch and breaks very easily, some people said that’s it’s like G3 disintegrating hair (Polypropylene) but G4s have Nylon hair. Anyone knows what it is?

I also noticed that Star Swirls light pink streak doesn’t seem to fall or break, I think they used other material on it

unfortunately G4s having completely nylon hair is untrue, so it's poly hair disintegration here. see these threads from the restoration forum recently. G4 poly hair seems to be disintegrating even faster than G3 hair, it's quite a shame. :sleepy:

Thank you so much! This problem has been bothering me for so long. Do you know any other threads about this?

the main topic on G3 disintegrating hair (pinned at the top of the MLP discussion forum) discusses the problem in G4s somewhat, but you can find discussions at length in general on other doll forums since this is starting to be a major problem for any toy that uses poly hair. to sum it up, poly is a cheaper material, and toy companies across the board want to cut costs. there's nothing really to be done about it except rehairing the doll/pony in nylon hair to prevent it from happening again.

A lot of G4s don't have nylon hair, but I'm not sure about the 2010 ones. The first G4s did tend to have better manes than the later ones, where the hair was straight up awful.

Even the G4s with nice manes usually have low-quality tails. Like most of the Fashion Styling ponies (which I believe do usually have nylon manes, poly tails.)

Looking at your pictures, I don't think poly hair is the only possibility. Maybe that's the problem, maybe it isn't. Is the hair literally breaking off or is the entire plug pulling out? The latter can happen with any type of hair.

The hair is breaking off, i tried to pull at the plug to see if the problem was that but it isn’t, it breaks apart to the touch, just by touching it some of the hairs fall off, and by pulling it the entire hair that you’re holding breaks.

Unfortunately some G3 Monster High dolls (the current ones) also have poly hair. (Not all of them, it varies by character and by release.) It's so frustrating. Just use a different type of hair!

Hasbro eventually stopped using gold plastic on Transformers due to "Gold Plastic Syndrome", which similarly had the material just crumble to dust with age . . . Maybe we should start a letter campaign for better quality hair. IMO nothing is better than nylon. It's so funny watching Youtubers reviewing dolls with saran hair because they're always like: "Wow, her hair quality is amazing! It feels waxy, the ends are uneven, and there are flyaway hairs everywhere, but she's going to look perfect after I wash her three times and pour boiling water over her head!"

Totally right, i don’t have any dolls or ponies with different hair, but a random G4 movie reboot set has an Applejack and a Twilight with Saran and i was so surprised to see it like they tried for once knowing The G4 reboot has poly for mane and tail (the set is called Royal Friendship Applejack and Twilight Sparkle i think)

I mentioned recently on the g3 thread that I have a G4 year 1 so 2011 Twilight Sparkle with the magenta disintegration. That seems to be the color that goes the most, or at least first. She came with the balloon. So I wondered if it was leftover from the G3 times. Not sure if we’ve found G3.5 with the issue yet. If it’s listed in that big thread then I just forgot. XD

Yeah i saw it and i was so shocked! Did you have this problem with other G4 ponies?

I think there was a G3.5 Cherilee (with changeable hair) on the list of G3 ponies with Polypropylene hair

So far no, but I’ll report there when I do. I don’t have Starswirl. She was a special release we never got in the states iirc, and her price hasn’t lowered much I don’t think. Maybe now it will.

It’s sad knowing that maybe someone spend a lot of money for her and in a couple of years she’s gonna go bald all of the sudden lmao

How like life. XD the amazing realistic Pony toy! They age with you!
XD I think that’s why a lot of collectors don’t like G4, they don’t have the same quality as other gens (and the earliest ones having the “best quality” only to find out they had poly mixed in their hair)

So soon? My G3 Poly hair held out for over 15 years.

I can't imagine what will happen with G5 in the next 5 - 10 years.

I think it depends on too, G4s hair disintegrating is really rare to see because it hasn’t passed enough time to happen to other collectors too. So we don’t really know wich ponies have poly mixed in their hair, it is also blended so well you can’t notice (For example my Star Swirl has a light pink streak of nylon hair and the rest is Poly)
