Halloween episode discussion!

I really like Luna's new look and her new voice!! She sounds more like a queen and a goddess. I also really like "The fun has been doubled!" That was funny. In general, the new Luna is, like, a zillion times better than the old Luna.

When I saw the leaked pic of Luna I was worried that the writers were going to make her go bad again and then be reconquered by friendship or something. I'm SO pleased that they chose to develop her instead. I didn't think it possible, but I love Luna even more now.

I may have to restyle Styling Luna's hair again in celebration. XD

I loved this episode so much! I always wanted Luna to be like Marceline from "Adventure Time" in personality, but I love this idea a lot, too! She was hilarious! She was just so awkward, the poor thing! Now I want a Fashion Style Luna even more than I did before! Also, her new hair is so pretty (even though I liked the old way, too).

Oops, sorry. I totally forgot. I was so excited, I forgot that others might not have seen it yet. Won't let it happen again.

No worries! There is so much to be excited about!

I hope that Hasbro comes out with some new Luna merch at some point where she's shaped like an adult rather than as a common pony.

Well, I loved Derpy bobbing for apples. And Pipsqueak the Pirate. LOVED Luna's new look. :)

Oh man, THIS was a great episode! I laughed a lot during it. Now I want a Pip toy!!

OMG I just about died when Derpy showed up in that barrel. This reminds me: have we seen any sign of Doctor Whooves this season? He used to be in the background all the time but it seems that he's MIA for now.

There was a lot to take in with this ep, from the little easter eggs in the background to how they handled Luna after having a year to figure her out. I'm sure it's gonna take me several viewings to catch most of it. I'm also going back to re-watch the pilot eps since there're a few things faintly bothering me. For the most part it was a fun ep though, and the writers really faced a difficult task in trying to come up with an entire Luna episode which wouldn't raise hordes of angry fans.

Margos, you may want to put most of your text in a white font to avoid spoiling the episode for others who have not seen it yet. :)
You'd think the thread title would give some sorta hint that there might be spoilers in here. ;-) But I've gotten in the habit of not even visiting pony-related sites until I've seen the newest episode, since spoilers seem to drop everywhere anyway. I refused to even look at the MLP FB page because of the screenshots, since I like to watch with as few preconceptions as possible--"Party Of One" lost some of its effect for me after having seen so much cupcakes-related stuff before I got caught up on all of season 1, f'rinstance.

EDIT: Silly Twilight, Trixie doesn't have a beard!

Luna reminded me of a Borg. Specifically, Seven of Nine (from Voyager) when she was first un-assimilated. She was awkward and having a hard time adapting. Unless it is just me, it seems somebody likes Star Trek! First Discord/Q, now Luna/Seven of Nine. It is amusing.

Exactly what I was thinking. xD Also, I had thought that Scoot would dress up like a chicken instead of a werewolf, b/c of the 'I know how to call a chicken! Scootalooooooo! Scoot-scootaloo!

I wish they could have put Rarity in the episode :(
I guess since her voice actor was Luna's voice, they didn't want to over work Tabitha. :p
Luna also seemed kinda distant... but I guess she was supposed to be like that. I liked the old Luna better, but this new one is still ok. Meh. Whatever.

This is my favorite of the season so far. I love Luna's new design and personality. Liked that Rainbow Dash was back to being a prankster and Luna turning the prank on her in the end.

I have mixed opinions on Luna. Some parts I really liked, and while I can'y put my finger on it, but there was something about her that didn't sit quite right with me. Maybe I just need to watch the episode a few more times.

That was my reaction too and I wound up watching this and the season 1 pilot over again to try figuring it out. On the whole I do like Luna as they depicted her this time, and the entire episode, it's mostly little nitpicky things which could've been fixed without harming the story. ('Course, I'm also a bit obsessive over NMM/Luna, though I'm sure that's entirely irrelevant!)

Like that Luna's voice seemed a bit inconsistent. <Even taking into account the different voices Luna uses, it's like Tabitha couldn't quite get a handle on the character this time. Plus I miss NMM's voice. The royal voice just isn't the same. :-(>

<Her archaic speaking style too--she was nothing like that in the last season's pilot. Sure it was funny at times, it just didn't make sense that she spoke in modern dialects right after escaping the moon, but then after having been back on Equestria for a year she's reverted to an older dialect that nobody else uses.>

<"What is this 'fun' thou speakest of?" I could accept that she doesn't know how the common folk have fun, or what's fun about a festival she sees as being an insult to her. I can't really believe she's never even heard of the concept of fun before though.>

<Twilight seemed overly familiar with Luna too. She's still a princess after all. Even with as chummy as Twilight is with Celestia I can't see her getting away with saying something like "Follow me Princess, I'll explain on the way" to her.>

And Pinkie Pie! <You were doing that on purpose the whole time? You jerk!>

On the other hand, I loved <that she didn't fit in, and knew it. I think a lot of fans were expecting her to still be the meek and remorseful thing we saw in season 1, and this works so much better. You could see how she could've turned bitter enough to become NMM from feeling like such an outcast. 'Course, I also thought the original NMM character was a great vehicle for morals like accepting others who might be different from you, though I'm sure it's mere coincidence that I like this representation of Luna which is somewhat similar to my original interpretation of Luna/NMM's character!>

I also thought it was kinda neat how <they've given Equestria their own holidays and myths, while keeping them similar enough to our own to still be familiar and accessible. It's obviously Halloween, if a ponified parallel version.>

And of course all the stuff they're slipping in to let us know they're paying attention to the fans, and of course little details that even casual viewers can go back to look for and enjoy. <Colgate in a dentist's costume? And Derpy's appearance was nothing short of perfect. Incidentally, was I the only one who heard this guy every time Pipsqueak spoke?>

I agree with Malancaiwen too, this episode went by really quickly! BTW, it's another two-week break before the next new episode.

I don't know, personally I liked Tabitha's handle on Luna's voice. It had Rarity's elegance with Minty's awkwardness at the same time, and I think it worked rather well.
