I got this from a family friend around a decade and a half ago, when I was a wee collector exploring the world of the pre-G3 era. My guess has always been that it's a baby blanket, or meant for dolls-- it's about the right size to serve as an American Girl doll's comforter.
I just pulled it out of storage, and it's in pretty good shape. It looks clean, but I'd wager that the colors could brighten a bit more at the top with a wash. The tag, however, has long since been severed.
