So, I'm curious how you guys feel about accessories, how you collect them and how your pony purchases are affected by them?

I personally just want 1 of each individual item, regardless of color. So for example, brushes/combs-I just want one of each style, don't care about color, can be any color I happen to have but I just need 1 in every style. Same thing with barrettes and bottles and everything else. I prefer to save my precious space for better things and so long as I have 1 of each repeating accessory that's good enough for me. So, when I buy ponies I don't really care if they have their accessories, actually I prefer to buy them separate to avoid tons of duplicates.

Now that rule only applies for repeating accessories, things like big brother hats don't count in my mind because they are individual so I still need them all.

So, what kind of a accessory collector are you? Must you have every single accessory for each pony? Do you not care about accessories? Or are you like me or do you have a whole other system by which you collect accessories? And how does this effect your pony purchases?

I tend to just buy what's available, so typically I don't end up with many accessories. I enjoy them when I do get them, but have never seen them as a 'have to own' type of thing. I do like to get the furniture that comes with a particular playset, but that's a horse of another colour...

Yes it does affect my decision. I don't like to buy them, because they usually make the price of the pony higher then I care to pay.

I have several plastic toy horse brushes, so I don't need them.

I can buy ribbon spools at Walmart for cheap and at least match the color, or come pretty close to it and I don't have to buy them often, unless I want a different color.

I can buy a bandana for a buck and it'll last me several ponies.

I don't buy play-sets because I have no room for them. (Oh Paradise Estate, why must you be so awesome?)

The only things I might be willing to pay extra for, as long as its not too much extra, is like a Big Brother with his hat. (Okay Wigwam's headdress, he just doesn't look complete without it) or a princess with her wand and/or Bushwoolie.

Well, I am a completionist so I prefer to have the accessories that go with my ponies, but I don't need back cards or MOC/MIB to be happy. I want the original stuff. Also I have this thing about the ribbons. I really want all my ponies to have ribbons whether they came with them or not. I really don't like repro ribbons as much as original vintage pony ribbons. So, I buy them when I can for all my ponies. Sometimes I don't like the color that came with a pony so I may switch them out, but I have a list of which ribbon goes with which pony.

When it comes to accessories my collections consists of Pony Wear, Combs/brushes/picks, Princess Items, MLP original barrettes, MLP 80's ribbons, hats, Baby pony accessories, pretty ups, play sets and stuff that went with play sets. I am a long way off getting all my stuff complete, but I am thrilled when I finally do complete a pony. To me its just the best thing to have all that pony's stuff with it. I have tons of stuff I don't have the ponies for actually. My hope is that when that pony enters my house I will then have their item. I tend to purchase ponies that come with accessories. I like spending the money to complete that pony.

I am way behind on my bushwoolies.

I sort of cringe when I think of all the accessories I had that my sisters wandered off with. Then again, I don't have the Ponies anymore due to the theft, so I guess it's just as well.

One day I'll replace them all. If my brain can remember who I even had completely.

I remember when I was stupid and sold my entire collection of G1s and G3s. Stupid me. I had to buy everything back. Doofus nu nu birdie. I have my friend to thank for going to the thrift store and finding me all sorts of goodies over the years that helped me rebuild my collection.

I think a good deal of us are trying to rebuild too, tulagirl. Whether they are given away, swiped or sold. Here we all are, drooling over Ponies!

I ain't even ashamed. :winkpony:

Yea I seem to remember the first time I posted on the TP was over a pony that disappeared from the house and I remembered what she looked like but not her name or cutie mark to rebuy her. She was a huge g3 favorite of the kiddos. Everyone here was so helpful. They were able to tell me what pony I had and even helped me locate one. Now I have two. See if she ever leaves my house again. I can't remember the whole story as it was long ago, but the freak over losing that pony lead me here. That was during the G3 run. As far as G3 accessories I loved the Disney stuff and wish I had been aware of them when they were for sale. Now I only have bits and pieces of outfits. Booooo

For me, it depends on the accessory in question. I tend to buy accessories I really like, but I'm not especially concerned with accessories I don't care for, even if they're considered part of a set. For instance, I'd eventually like to have the Big Brothers with their hats because I like them, but I don't go out of my way to collect brushes, barrettes, or even Bushwoolies because they don't interest me as much. So I'd be more likely to buy a buy a Big Brother with his hat, but less likely to buy a Princess with her Bushwoolie. I don't tend to display ponies with their accessories, so I think that influences my decisions as well. Overall, I guess I approach accessory collecting the same way I approach pony collecting in general: I collect what I like :)

I don't display my ponies with their accessories either. Its more about my obsessive need to have it all roflol. All of mine are in containers. A few are out though.

Makes no difference to me. I'm all about the pony. lol

The pony is most important to me. I do not mind if they got their accessories but I won't buy them separately or if ponies value goes very high because the accessories it is out of my list. It is so ridicilous to pay so much from some colored stick (princess wand) or some hat etc -.-
Ofc I would someday want the all accessories too but for now I think ponies are better ;)

I'm an accessory junkie, so I'm always happy to get accessories along with a pony. I don't need a stacking toy for each of the babies that came with one, but I do have 1 or 2 for display purposes.

My current project is to get original ribbons for all my G1s.

I'd probably have a Tex in my collection were it not for the hat = higher price + sellers not willing to separate, so... Yeah.

I usually avoid accessories in general, not just for ponies but all sorts of figures, the exception being dolls. I do appreciate it if I get an accessory in a trade or swap, though!

When first getting into ponies, I just wanted the pony. Accessories were nice to have, but I wanted the cheapest pony, which meant usually, without accessories.

Now that I have all the ponies I wanted, there's little left to collect, except the accessories! So now, if I want the accessories, there's a very good chance I'll have to get the pony too.
