How Do I Clean my Plush Pony?
Most pony plush of any generation are generally safe to put in your washing machine, but you can always hand wash if you prefer.
Washing Machine Method:
Step 1: Tie in a clean pillow case
If your pony is a vintage Hasbro Softies with plastic eyes, or any plush that has plastic parts, it is suggested to put your plush pony in a white or light-colored pillow case (no colors that bleed!) and tie the bag closed very tightly. If washing multiple plush, each should have its own bag.
If the plush does not have plastic eyes or other parts, you can skip this step.
Step 2: Wash
Wash your pony in the washing machine on cold, cool, or warm with your normal detergent. If you are going to sell the pony, it is recommended to use a hypo-allergenic detergent.
For this tutorial, I added half a scoop of OxyClean:
Step 3: Apply Conditioner and Brush Hair
Once your pony has emerged from the washer, apply a generous amount of conditioner to the mane and tail, and carefully brush or comb through until all tangles are gone.
Before washing
After washing, before brushing with conditioner.
Note: YES, her face did smush back into shape!
Step 4: Rinse Hair with Warm/Hot Water
Rinse the mane and tail with warm to hot water, and style before drying.
Step 5: Dry
NEVER PUT ANY PLUSH TOY IN THE DRYER. THE HAIR WILL MELT.
Allow your pony to sit in a dry, ventilated area for at least 7 days.
