When I was little I remember opening up the pony shells all the time (don't ask why, I guess just for fun...?) Anyways I recently was going through all my stuff and found the suction cup to one of the shells. I want to open it up and put the suction cup back... but my problem is I can't! It's totally stuck and I am scared to force it open and break it. I cannot figure out how I did this as a kid. Is there a trick to this? Any suggestions would be great :)

I would love to help but since I do not own any shells I do not know their mechanism :(.. but sounds weird that you can't open it  They should not be that hard. Did you for example check there isn't something that locks the mechanism from working..

maybe hot water to help soften or loosen the plastic parts? i havent owned a shell since i was a kid.

Hmm I can see that there is something like a pin lock: I believe that there were 2 different models of shells. The first year ones seem to be impossible to open. I also have 2 swirl shells from the next year and they open up no problem (but they appear to be made differently).

Hmmm hmm what a puzzle.. Can you get any gap in the shell if you try gently?

no, nothing, it's totally locked in. I am scared to force it open because I don't want to break it. My boyfriend was going to try with a pair of pliers and I was like "um no thanks. It's too risky lol" That's why I figured there must be a way to do it, but I couldn't find anything online. Also I know that it must be quite common for people to open up the shells, because I have 2 other first year shells and they don't have the suction cups (so obviously the people I bought them from opened them up at one point and then lost the suction cups).

I don't have the answer on how to open them (allthough I've gotten several shells lately sent to me that were taken appart for less space in the box so it's obviously possible :p )

But I wanted to throw in a sidenote that you don't have to open them to get the suctioncup out. While most shells have arrived to me opend some did not, and I couldn't for the life of me get them open to remove the suctioncup. (I always remove the suctioncup or I can't fit the shells on my display, the would stick too far out).
So, with some force and twisting and turning and poking I managed to get the suctioncups out anyway since they are quite bendy. You might just be able to get them in the same way I got them out without opening the shells. By bending and poking and twisting and turning the back end of the suctioncup into the hole.

Just wanted to throw it out the :)
