How do you collect?

yeah, this is basically how it goes for me too. i'd rather not have a pony i dont care enough for (alot of the g3 ones idrc for tend to be pink & purple). i'd also like to collect g3 merch but i don't know what to look out for yet. always loved the scholastic & 'I Can Read!' books back in the 2000s though. the perfect pumpkin & the thanksgiving gift have such beautiful artwork

sometimes for certain ponies they have different poses/variations & so i'll get multiple of the same pony. ex. I have two mintys! one in her walking pose with a sparkly cutie mark & another in the donkey pose with red markings. they stand out to me a lot in the hundreds of mintys/minty merch there is, lol.

so far all my collection has been based off online listings save for my sew-n-so (friend gave me her) & baby sparkleberry swirl, she's the only remaining member of my original collection :) also she was the only baby pony of mine that didn't have marker all over her body LOL thankfully someone bought the rest as bait (honolu-loo, romperooni & penny candy)

I primarily collect G3 ponies, and aim to focus on the other generations (G2, next) once I have all of the more easily obtainable G3s (limited edition and generally expensive ponies excluded, I hope to get those, but I will search casually and start to work on my other pony collections).

Previously, I usually got mine secondhand from Car Boot Sales, but I no longer visit car boot sales and am now looking online to look for ponies.
 
A boring answer but I like to collect by set. Completing just gives me a rush and I feel like the ponies are so lonely without their sisters. I love finding the right combs etc. Too.
 
I have my childhood favorites and I love them dearly, the only ones I've bought as an adult were those I already really wanted as a kid and a few G3 ones. But I rarely buy ponies these days as I already have most of those I love and am too attached to sell any of them so as a result, space becomes an issue.

I love G1 and am fond of some G3 but the rest leave me indifferent. Sets I do not care for, it was never a priority for me. I am more into certain themes like night sky, stars, moons and the like.

When I do buy a pony, it's on ebay. The last one I bought was very recently, Moon Jumper, grabbed at ebay a couple of days ago. I'd like to get all Glittery Sweetheart Sisters but I already have the two I really wanted- Bright Night and Sunblossom.
Of course, there are some I would love to have if I could get them at an affordable price...but it's very doubtful that will ever happen: Mimic, for example.

A kind of pony I didn't even know was a thing until recently are the retro ones. Usually "retro" lines don't do it for me because they never quite seem to capture the feel of the originals but the MLP I've seen so far really do look like G1 ponies.

My priority is cleaning the ones I do have; a few I will probably get cleaned professionally: white ponies, love them but they get dirty so, so easily!

I collect mainly by interest due to budget restraints/lack of market. If I wasn't dirt broke i would probably have less self-restraint xD. As much as I entertain the thought of a complete collection some pony sets just don't appeal to me in the slightest so I'd rather have that money go into some that do really catch my fancy, yk?.
 
I used to get a lot of ponies a couple of years ago, now I only get those ponies that I like so much. I don’t need to complete sets either, I prefer rainbow ponies, I got a couple of armys, of minty and applejack, Im in love with some International ( nirvana ) but these are hard to get, so sometimes I dont mind if I get a very well made custom .
I like a lot g3 and the season ones, I have g4 too, had a small fluttershy army, but I started to sell most of them . I will only keep the g1 and g3 gens.
 
I'm really into the Basic Fun ponies at the moment! I must have them all! as for G1s I want to complete my TEs - Bright Eyes. I collect the rest of the Generations but not All the ponies like the G4 pop ponies lately I'm getting into the statues like the ones that have the human version standing next to the pony. that be one collection to collect.
 
I like collecting my faves this includes a bunch of G3’s, as well as rarer ponies, customs are an absolute yes one of a kind!!!
 
I have a wish list but I haven’t looked or bought ponies in a long while :satisfied:

My last big purchase was the mommy pony and two babies.
