how do you organize your ponies on display?

Mine are currently setup as:

Year and then by set (MIB and loose are mixed together)

but I have yet to complete my display because i keep debating on whether to change it to a number of different ways..

By color
By pose
By release type
By body type
By pony army of specific characters
By rarity
loose separate from mib

I think no matter which way I sort them, i will end up re-doing it... :goingcrazy5B15D:

but I do think that having it by pose would accommodate more ponies on a shelf though...

Thanks I needed something to cover the risers because there are only made of wood off-cuts (really practical and all but not so nice on the eye lol and I didn't want the ponies feet on rough wood either).

It's panne velvet and it comes in the most gorgeous array of colours and I like it because it has texture. It only cost a few dollars a metre and I just cut it to size and popped it over the risers and taped the edges of the fabric underneath the shelf - really easy :D It also doesn't stain or anything . . .

You spotted my lovely I see - Brazilian Hearthrob is my fav Nirvana so far :D I found out on the Arena that Hearthrob is a he?! so he goes with the other boys :D He's definately a very pretty boy lol
 
Right now my nine custom ponys are on my displayed on a little shelf by my window and my sweetiebelle and lily lightly are in dream castle. Newborn cutie starsong fell behind my dresser. Im not sure if displaying them by a window might cause fading or crowding problems though :smiley_duck:.
 
Apparently I'm one of the only ones that sorts by color. XD I sort by G1s, then G3s. Here's some pictures: (My collection has definitely grown since I took these pictures. I'll get new ones soon)

Wow, everyone's displays are so nice!! I love seeing them sorted by color, that's really neat. I was thinking of doing the rainbow order thing too (when I eventually get a place to do it that is). When I was a kid I obsessively ordered EVERYTHING by rainbow. I'm getting such great ideas from pony shelves from y'all. :eat:
 
I'm having the same problem now, putting up shelves in the new house. I couldn't put up shelves in the old house as we were renting it. The ponies are all going in my daughter's room, and I've started by sorting them by year and set. I'll see how that looks, before i decide if changes are needed.

I have alot of ponywear and i'm not sure how i'm going to display all that yet.
 
the ones i have room for display, they are arranged by their types. all the ss together, the te together, flutters, etc... you get what i mean. it works for me.
 
No offense to the rest of you but I'm favoring the color grouping the best :p
 
Mine are mostly in sets, and then by colour within sets, and some sets go better next to each other (like the Sundae Best, Sweet Berry and Candy Cane ponies) than others.

My big brothers are a little mixed in - Tornado is dating Sea Flower (it's the hair colour), Daddy Sweet Celebrations is with Wave Runner (hair, again) and Prince Cassius is a bachelor, but he's stood with the other blokes.

Sweet Suds had to go right down the end - her hair just takes up too much room in the middle.

When I fill the top shelf too, I think they'll have to go in poses, to fit more in. ;)

Lol this made me wonder...do any collectors actually have that set of ponies in the front of their collection shelf or do we all hide them in the back, corner, etc?

I'm also getting ideas from you all, but what type of shelves do you suggest for living in a rental? I know how I want to display them, but I need some ideas.... I can hang shelves on the wall, but I don't have much space, and my collection isnt that big, so any ideas would be awesome!!
 
I group my ponies in order of type and then by color. All my G3 pegs and uni's are together, then all the earth ponies together. The earth ponies are then paired nose to nose with a pony that has its cutie mark on the opposite side and NOT of the same color. That way everybody's cutie mark can be seen and the color distribution is pleasing to look at! I do group all the scented ones together and the ones that came as sets, like spring basket ponies.:4932:

I live in a rental, and my collection isn't that big either. I just brought a nice bookshelf from IKEA, cost me $90 and it's white so the ponies look great. Of course I'm lucky enough to have an apartment big enough to fit the bookshelf... but I didn't have to attach anything to walls which was my main concern.

try a thrift store or craigslist first, even Big lots has soem stuff :)
that way teh money you save can buy you more PONIES!!!!! LOL ;)

Aw poor PP ponies . . . I'm one of the few people that actually really like them :)

I have the PP ponies, Sundae Best ponies and Blueberry Baskets all together on the bottom shelf because the scent is sooooo strong (not because I'm ashamed of them :p ) if they were up at head height they'd be too over-powering lol

relceleste, I had to get a crane to pull my tongue off the floor, then siphon all the drool off the floor after seeing your pics. I hope you're happy, it was a real mess. ;) Do you only have like the most awesomest of ponies? dang. I must say, I have a crush on Diamond Dreams too. :hearts:

I'd love to see more color groupings if anyone does them.
