Hello all, well some of you may remember that I am in the middle of moving out of home for the first time, and I have been meaning to stop buying ponies unless from a thrift store, but alas, I have bought three G1 Bluebelles from 3 different countries (Mexico, Argentina, Brazil), G1 German baby lemondrop, and a G1 Brazil Blossom.... then more from stores and thrift stores...
I was just wondering if anyone else does this silliness so I don't feel like I have that bad of an addiction...

Sorry if in wrong place, I never know where to put things...

I have a tendency to go on toy buying sprees, especially ponies, when I'm stressed or feeling down. The ponies are sort of calming in that way...maybe that's what's happening for you?

Good luck with your move :)

By giving yourself an exception (no ponies EXCEPT from thrit stores), it can make your resolution to stop buying feel less serious.

Stop going to thrift stores, eBay and other places where you buy ponies. If it's somewhere that you have to go to (like Walmart), skip the toy section.

You're going to have to be quite aware of what you're doing and have the willpower to make yourself stop in order for this to work.

It's easier for me to stop buying ponies when I'm interested in other things. Though that does usually mean there are other things I want to buy. I try to think thoughts like "if I save up now, I'll have more money for Christmas presents for my family and friends", and only buy things on special, one-off occasions, if a really good deal shows up, or in the case of ponies, if there's a swap. But as ichigo_pinkchan says, it's a lot harder to do when I feel down. I don't know why it is, but yeah, ponies are pretty soothing that way.

What you do is let the guilt get to you. Then you send those Bluebelle's to me as punishment. lol

I have to stop buying ponies too, I'm trying to go to holiday to America next year and buying ponies doesn't help XD What I do is drift away from Ebay and just restore the ones I have already...

The best way to stop buying for me is to stop going to places that sell ponies as when I see a pony that I like it is very hard for me to not buy it no matter how much it is

Getting a over-draft statement from your bank account could do the trick... ;)

1) Running out of money ;)

2) When I'm not buying I stay away from the "want to buy" Craiglist, and ebay. The ponies will still be there when you are ready to buy again.

Good Luck!

This is all very good advice. Honestly, and I don't mean to sound harsh, you just need to learn to tell yourself no. I always guilt trip myself out of ponies. XD I just ask myself a bunch of questions. Do I really love it? Is it something that I can't get again? Is the price for this even a good deal? Do I really need this right now? Most of the time I can answer no. :)

It's hard, I know. Moving out is a big deal. (That's awesome!) You'll find when you're out on your own that money might be a little tighter anyway, so that will definitely cut down on the buying. Good luck! :D

Hi all thanks for all the tips I really appreciate it :smilepony:

I've had a litle think about this and I think it's not a bad thing, as I'm going through a tough time (not including the move itself but it does add to it) and the ponies help me and I'm not mis-managing my money so it's not a bad thing, I'll just keep a minimum spend on them and when everything's settled down I'll spend m money on a therapist that I really do need... At the moment the ponies are all that's keeping me together through everything I'm going through right now... I just don't think it'll be a good idea to stop while I don't have the time to search for a new therapist to help me and while there's so much bringing me down making me want to stop trying and give up.... I know it's silly but they really are all I have that's keeping me surviving and not giving up :cry2: And I feel that if I remove my only happy thing, I may crash and burn...

Once everything's settled down I'll pause pony-spending to get some help, and then when I'm all better I'll celebrate :winkpony: Though I will keep it to a minimum! (so many awesome nirvana Blue Belle deals I couldn't resist!)

But I will reduce the amount, how many and once everythings clear i'll stop and get help for myself... and no more ebay too!

I also think once I get some help, I won't feel the strong need to buy as many as I had been before as I'll be happier in life and will find more things in life to enjoy along with my ponies!

Thank you everyone :)

It's not silly at all. I know what you mean, I've definietly used ponies to help my mental state along at times. Distraction and savoring the good or simple stuff are important, healthy coping mechanisms too. So yes, as long as you don't end up over procrastinating or over using the ponies then you're right it's not that bad. :bighug:

I set a limit not to pay more than $5:00 for a pony, which seems to be a good rule, if you rather buy big lots and put a little TLC in. It also keeps me busy for a while and keeps my from pony shopping.
What I don't need, I can easily trade or sell to friends or on ebay, which gives me some $ in my Paypal what I can use for more ponies.
Ponies from stores I always pay with credit card points. This way they are basically for free.
