How to tell NSS Truly from Deflocked SS Truly?

Hi! I'm from Sweden and I have assumed my "naked" Truly is the original Non so soft one since it was released and not uncommon here.

But now I need to sell it if it is, because I need some money and I need to be sure :)

So I would be very happy if someone could help ^^

(I hope I'm putting this in the right place >.<)

This is my Truly:

Hello, welcome to the TP. =)

I think she may be NSS, as a lot of deflocked SS ponies seem to look a bit shiny and possibly mildly yellow on the body from what I've seen?

What date does she have on her hoof please? =) My NSS Gusty has 1984, but I don't think NSS Truly was ever released in the UK - they may be from the same year though?

The hoof stamp wouldn't help as the date is just when the mold was created and not when that specific pony was released ;)

Although speaking of feet, do you see any flocking residue in the holes where her stand goes? That's a place that usually doesn't get deflocked 100%. Other than that I really don't know, sorry =(

Yes, please check her carefully for flocking left in the feet holes and in between the rows of hair in her mane. :)

Other than that, I believe I true NSS Truly will have dark brown eyeliner as opposed to black like most ponies. I will check up on that!

EDIT - YES. She will have brown eyeliner if she is real. If it's black she's a very good deflock. Can you open up her head and check the neck seam? Sometimes flocking gets in there and isn't removed in the deflock process. :)

I can't find any trace in the holes of flocking, or anywhere else.

I bought it at a thrift shop and it looked like it had belonged to a child (frizzy hair that I fixed and some crayon marks on the body that was very easy to remove) which seems odd that someone would deflock it, give it to a child and then give it to charity? ;)

BUT the eyeliner doesn't look brown? Are you sure about that part?

Scandinavian Truly doesn't show on Ponyland Press or MyLittleWiki as having brown liner - it's black from the images on my monitor, at least. But I guess I'm no expert. ^^;;

I'm fairly certain that your Truly is a real NSS based on the color of her eyeline in the close-up pictures. :smilepony:

Skeen is absolutely correct. I have both original NSS Truly & Cupcake, as well as ones that were deflocked. The eyeliner is a noticably different color. It's hard to see in a picture, but very clear in person. The deflock with black eyeliner has a crisp, clear BLACK color, while the real NSS has a very dark brown, definitely not black color. All of the ponies in this set (Cupcake, Truly, Hopscotch, Posey, Shady, & Cherries Jubilee) have this variation, but since its hard to spot, it's not a widely acknowledged variation in the other 4.

Here's a comparison pic of my 2 Cupcakes:

As far as this...

I would not consider either of those sites good informative sources on this pony. Ponyland Press has her listed as a UK pony, which she was not. Wiki has her listed as a variation of Truly, but there are no further details aside from the picture.

Her eyeliner looks black on my monitor, but... wow, she's pretty! If she's deflocked, she's very well-done!

Pretty, pretty pony... :ponylove:

I apologise for being ignorant about the quality of my sources. The set on PP was listed under UK/Euro ponies even if it mistakenly puts them as a UK set in the page description - the Movie Star ponies were UK but ponies like Truly were Scandinavian. I'm still new to this and I like trying to help others as my searching skills are usually okay, but evidently I'm no good at this yet. From now on I guess I'll leave this to the pros. Apologies again.

Good to know for the OP though that the Truly is a proper NSS and not a deflock. =)

No need to apologize! Learning about all of the many, many ponies out there is a work in progress. There are a lot of ID sites online, some are better than others. There's *a lot* of incorrect & incomplete information, even on well-known sites.

It would seem most logical that it's NSS but I think I'll wait to sell it until I find a really good comparison pic with a NSS Truly. Because I'm still seeing black eyeliner on mine :/ Maybe I need it side by side to see that it's brown.

My brain is fighting with the fact that I'm seeing black but logic says it would be weird if it was deflocked since there is no trace and it was in a thrift shop.. *sigh*

Thanks everyone so far anyway :)

One more closeup here.. still looks black to me... -___-

Ok, I got out my NSS, SS, and a deflock for a comparison pic. The real NSS is in the middle. In addition to the dark brown eyeliner, her eyes are a more aqua shade of blue, while the SS & deflock are a more sky blue shade. Your pony matches these colors, so again I would say that she is certainly an original NSS Truly.

which country did you find it?

I found it in Sweden :)

Thank you! ^^

I guess I'll have to trust you on this :)

Now I just have to find out where the best place to sell it is ;)
(suggestions are welcome)
