How's your thrift store pony luck?

i go to a place in plano called family thrift center, i think thats the name. i use to go to texas thrift in garland, but they got rid of their toy selection for a long time and then brought them back, but not as big or nice of a selection like it use to be. i havent found a way to go to mckinney. would like to since i hear so many great finds there.
 
Definitely don't give up looking at thrift stores! In the recent week I found a G1 cotton candy (though worse for wear, she will get well deserved TLC though) and a big boxful of 26+ g3 ponies and they are ones I've been wanting too!
Also keep on the lookout for other merchandize, I've found a MIB watch and clock set (g3 pony type) and a lovely little g3 jewelry musical box! And also a g1 annual my little pony book :)
Still very exciting to find even a dirty g1 though :)
So don't give up yet guys! Still lots to find!
 
I'm so frustrated with our citys thrift shop/flea markets... they are all in horrible condition and so messy you can't find there anything.. :/ so no luck for me :(

Also I have give up screaching there for that reason, you will just get lost in there.. so so messy. Other cities have so much better flea markets..

Thanks for suggesting Family Thrift! I went there last week while doing some business in Dallas. I only found two G3 Ponies, but got 5 Monster High dolls for my friend and some great small toys (I use tiny toys in mosaics, so I'm always buying any I find).

McKinney is kind of hit or miss for me. If Thrift Plaza has Ponies, they tend to have at least several bags of them, which is awesome. Sometimes though, they have nothing. The Goodwill there is useless. The only toys they carry are stuffed animals. There's another thrift place, but it's mainly clothes and housewares. Darned if I can remember what it's called though.
 
G1: Find at Goodwill from time to time, there's an abundance of antique stores/thrift stores in my area (like strip malls of them) and a swap meet mall that has them from time to time.

G2: Don't find these as often but have snatched up a couple at local thrift stores.

G3: All the freaking time. Goodwill, there's bins and bins full at the swap meet mall.

G4: Still at Wal*Mart, K-Mart, and I find them at Goodwill and the swapmeet mall. Not so much at antique stores. G1's are slightly more likely to be found at antique stores.

I'm kind of constantly coming across ponies in my area. People also get word in my area that I customize, and some have claimed that they drop off ponies at Goodwill hoping I will find them. <_____<;
 
I used to have pretty good luck at Value Village and Goodwill with G1s (there is always tons of G3s etc. but I don't buy them). Every now and then (rarely) I have found ones at smaller, locally owned thrift stores. Unfortunately, lately my luck has been running out because there has been a boom in competition so I need to go more often. I was at Value Village about 2 weeks ago and went to pick up a Bow Tie and a lady snatched her right out from under my hand! I've been pretty discouraged and haven't found anything since then either :cry2: I find that persistence pays off though and try to go and check atleast once a week.

I may have met that lady! A year ago I found a bag of Ponies at my Goodwill (the last Ponies I found there to date). I was carrying them around when I was approached by a very aggressive woman who said if I wasn't going to buy them I needed to put them back because SHE would. I quietly informed her I certainly was going to buy them. She then tried to conjole me into letting her have them because she could sell them, and she was a single mom and by purchasing them I was keeping her from caring for her family and her children would suffer because I bought a little bag of Ponies. Yeesh.

She was very... confrontational. But I again refused politely and went to the books only to overhear her tell her child, "If she sets the bag down, go grab it." I was so irritated I just checked out that moment and left. I almost expected her to follow me to the parking lot!

They were dead common Core 7 Ponies too. Pretty much worthless as far as value goes. I just don't like being bullied.

This might be a thread unto itself: Wacky things people will do for Ponies!
 
Hahaha wow that is crazy! I love my ponies for sure but I would never be rude like that! That is an excellent idea for a thread lol :LOL: Still nothing beats the satisfaction of finding a pony in a thrift store! For me it is really exciting and really makes my day, even if I only find one.
 
Her poor kids. They probably starved to death in a ditch just because I wouldn't fork over that bag. Heh. That's how she made it sound, at least. Funny, if she'd said something like, "Excuse me, but my little girl is just crazy for Ponies. Is there any chance you would let us buy that bag instead?" I probably would've said yes.

Isure agree about the fun of finding Ponies (or action figs, lol). There's a real thrill, seeing little hooves peeking up or a wild mane in a group of toys and knowing you struck gold.

I never get the ponies I *want or am looking for, but I prefer G1's and G3's. I landed three G1's and a BOX full of G3's... but now I'm probably going to have trouble sleeping, thinking I've jinxed myself!

i find g4 and their playset/playset parts quite often, g3s i see a lot too but don't pick them up. i don't find many g1's any more (most people around here know to pick these up to resell) but today i found g1 star dancer, g4: rainbow dash, rarity, apple bloom, and diamond rose. i've had tons of great finds over the years though. almost all of my g4 collection is from thrift stores, except maybe two (i must have 20+ including doubles/etc), and my greatest find last year was fashion style apple jack

Some stuff pops up at my church rummage sale from time to time. I found a set of five very dirty G1s there once, and a G1 posey plush just last month :D once they were cleaned up, they looked awesome, though :) other than that, no where else :(
 
Sometime I find barbies and care bears also some newer my little ponies found one can seem to find her any place she is a newer pony white with three flowers as her cutie mark.she has pink hair with sparkles in it a tinsle kind of like a princess pony ???Any one name her I'd like to know her name.
 
I've only found:
G1s: none myself, but my boyfriend's mum found me a G1 Cotton Candy
G2s: none
G3s; regular Pinkie Pie and giant styling size Pinkie Pie, Lickety Split and Cupcake, although my boyfriend found me Fluttershy and HeartBright
G4: a small brushable Rainbow Dash

So my luck has been sporadic really. I'm regularly going to hunt in my local charity shops for more, but I never get much luck, and I always get excited when I see colourful hair poking out of the toy bins but then it turns out to be a scary looking fakie =[ and the majority of the volunteers (except about 3) in the shops have been pretty rude when i've asked them if they have any ponies in the back of the shop!

I always come across Hello Kitty stuff, and I've found the odd really Old Polly Pocket set, which I couldn't resist buying haha
