Ok, so I have been so excited since we first knew that the G4's were coming. The thought of finding new ponies that were not the core 7 in stores was wonderful. However, the G4's have been out for almost a year now, and many ponies have been released, but it's so slow and uneven. People are finding new ponies very sparingly. I quickly got the main six characters as soon as they were released as individuals. When the Pinkie Pie-Sweetie Belle set came out, I was on top of it. But....that was it. That was the last time I saw new ponies. Many have been released over seas, and a few more have been released here in the states. Some people are lucky enough to find these ponies....while others of us get nothing. I remember hearing that about 40 different ponies were going to be released as toys, and we have found evidence of about 22 of them now. I was so looking forward to being able to find them in stores, and get them all as they came out. Now I am really mad that this isn't going to be the case. It's going to cost a lot to get all the ones being sold over seas. I didn't realize that SO many were going to be over seas. That I can live with though.....but the fact tha it's starting to look like I am going to have to pay more to get ones being released here in the states because they are not being sold around here is making me beyond mad. Why can't G4's be more available?!?!?!?

Ok rant over.

I feel the same way, I hate this new, uneven method of distribution.

I only found Cheerilee and Daisy Dreams last weekend here. I have to wonder what marketing strategy Hasbro is using, when countries where the show isn't even being shown (to my knowledge) are getting the new ponies fastest and getting special release ponies, while we aren't getting even distribution or new waves.

I know exactly how you feel. I really want those other G4s like Feathermay but I don't want to pay $40 on EBAY for. I am just crossing my fingers that in a few months they can show up in Walmart for both USA, Canada and the rest.

Cheerilee and Lily Blossom just showed up at my Target last week, so there's hope for those at least!
If you want any of the U.S. ones that aren't available in your area I'm sure you could find someone to pick them up at cost =) Shipping isn't even that bad if you debox them.

I have wanted to say this same thing but didn't want to look like all I did was complain, lol. Yeah, at the fair they said the 40+ characters and everyone whooped and hollered. But for this year it's been like core 6 and recycled 3.5 ideas (plush story telling and some castle accessories look like ponyville to me). If you look at Hasbrotoyshop.com they always had several pages of ponies to look through, not its only about 12 and the rest are sold out (about time, they were on the market long enough). Like if they would put out a good mix pretty constantly they would sell a lot more and create that excitement. I went to the Target endcap and some of the merch was cool but I really wanted the new singles and I left dissappointed again. I haven't bought a new pony for over 8 months, it's a pretty boring experience. I guess though it works out for me since G1 is my true love and I have continiued to flesh out my collection of them.

It could be a marketing thing, but I wonder...does it have to do with where they made the most money on the last line? Could it be that those places get them first...or is it a production issue...I think a lot of us may have forgotten just what all is involved in the production of toys. Something they use may have been exported from Japan and is delayed due to the tragic events there. Even though they are China made..you never know what other countries might have to do with the actually toy's production. With this in mind...I also wonder if its not about countries involved in production..could it be that materials they thought were going to be available for some sets were not available when production was due to start. There are so many reasons they might not be showing up. One thing is for sure...I would not pay the prices (if they are high) for G4's online even if they are unavailble. So many did this with G3 and these ponies are worth nothing now. If you are purchasing something just for yourself and never plan to sell it thats one thing...but should you ever need to sell it..I have a feeling toys being made now are not making it like in the past..and their values are going to be a lot lower than anticipated. Also early on with these ponies the colors do not match with the heads and bodies..maybe this is causing a halt in production as they try to fix this...I don't have any idea what is going on. These are some of the ideas I have. I think its silly to release toys only to certain countries and totally ignore the country your main office is in. Something tells me that is not the issue here..but if they keep this up..the joy of the line will fade before it ever hits the shelves...and as a result it will bust and not be popular at all. Not producing or not providing highly desired items only leads to loss of interest and with things like they are now..no one can afford this type of loss.

There is one other factor I have considered and that is cost. If a certain country's currency is worth less than usual is it worth it to try to fill orders here when they can fill orders somewhere else where the currency is holding a better value. All I ever saw on the shelves here was the first released set. Then I saw a bunch of new stuff at Target this week, but not much of it..several different items but maybe only one box of each type..that is way odd...you can't tell me they sold it all that quick...I am in Target all the time.

I hear ya. Haven't seen ANY new ponies besides the main six. I still haven't checked TRU, but will be doing that next week.

I have only just started to see new ponies in some places. I hope for more soon and a lot of new stuff comes out around the Winter Holiday season right?

feel for ya, especially since I totally get the happiness over a lot of different ponies /no more core nonesense ...

still, I can't help but think this is how it's always been done and always will be done and that's why years/decades later we have the "rare" whatever be it G1 or G3 and now G4 ... heck, the takara things were considered toy failures in Japan and only now that we have the loveliness of communities like these do we all know and maybe even want such failures because they are rare.

Maybe I am overthinking things, but I guess I feel lucky to even have ebay and craigslist and ponyboards such because man, my mom had to travel to like 5-6 toystores when my brother was all like "No - it has to be this style han solo and this luke skywalker" back in the day and I don't wager Kenner was more evil than Hasbro in regards to distribution.

One thought for you, has the Hasbro site got any of the overseas available as direct buys? I keep forgetting to check there (like with SDCC pony - glad ebay only cost me $3 more...) but I wonder if perhaps that might be a way to ease the wallet strain some...

I guess in that regard I am glad I don't care for the whole deer/mice/McD glammed G2-ish look but I wish you well on your pony hunt = that is what makes this "hobby" so addicting!

I don't collect G4s but I am curious whether there are any HTF ponies which are sold in Germany/Switzerland. If so I will keep my eyes open for possible G1 trades/custom purchases...)

Well,
As for Cheerilee and Blossom, they are both currently in Walmarts and Targets.
Every store orders their products differently so that might be a cause in lag. And some stores sell better than others, and order early while others wait... So, distribution is a store issue, not so much Hasbro.

Target has all the canterlot items, but not all targets will be getting every item.

Wave 3 is bound to hit Toys R Us soon. I think there is a release date on them or something, they haven't appeared at 99% of the stores.

I think Wave 3 will eventually go to Walmart next, as Wave 2 is only 2 ponies....

I think Wave 4 will come to the US too, we don't always get them first, that's all.

Woo! I feel like I was rewarded by ranting. I went to WalMart last night, and there was one Lilly Blossom. I would have bought her right then, but diapers came first. lol. I'm so happy though because where there is one, there will be more. Come on payday....momma wants to buy some new ponies! :)
