is repinking really worth it?

I've just gotten my second Up Up and Away today. I think she looks SO much better with white hair, but I'd like to have one of each. But is it worth it, trying to repink a pony and possibly ruining it? or make it look like it's bleeding..

re

yeah that's an amazing repinking, lolz. she looks lovely!

It's actually really super simple, and on an Up Up & Away (who is already pink) you will have no problems with staining at all.
All I do is put a tiny bit of Rit dye in boiling water, dip the pony's mane and tail in for a sec, then rinse thouroughly with cold water. If it's not quite dark enough, repeat. Usually it only takes one swift dip and they're restored to their original pink shade, but I've had a few stubborn ponies who take three quick dips to get the original shade back.

I've never had it stain a pony because it's simply not touching the plastic for long enough! Move fast, but not sloppily, and be sure you don't spill dye on anything else that will stain (like laminate kitchen counters!)

I think if done well, it is totally worth it. I repinked my childhood so soft twilight and now she is as beautiful as when my mother got her for me when I was six. Repinking is an awesome thing! However, there are some of my ponies that I'm also attacthed to that I've grown to love with the faded non-pink blond hair ( Posey is one of them ). So I guess its all about the preference :)

yeah, I realized after I posted "DUH. Up Up and Away is magenta. pink won't stain." but I have others, so I figured I'd just leave it and get the info.

thanks, by the way. I'm convinced =)

Re:

Good post - I was wondering a thing as well.

I tried to repink my Baby Gametime but the colors fades away right away. Does the hot water have to be BOILING so the color will stay in? I just used hot water... Maybe that's why it didn't work.

Great "repinking" of those ponies. They look wonderful =)

I had to dye a shirt of mine, and the water had to be boiling hot...even then I don't know what went wrong, but the color faded. Hopefully it's different with ponies
