Just a little vent... Sellers who completely overvalue their sale items...

I have a wanted ad on Craigslist for Ponies and occasionally someone will contact me. The latest seller has no understanding of her collection's worth and is not willing to go down in price or bargain at all. "These are VINTAGE COLLECTORS items!!" Um, yes. Lickety Split and Peachy are... vintage... She has some really nice stuff in good condition, and I would love to have them, but nothing is really rare. Lots of commons and playsets, albeit in very good condition. I believe I offered her a good price, but she'd rather it just sit in storage, I guess. It's just frustrating.

If she thinks they're that valuable I don't get why she doesn't sell them on eBay. :p

Isn't a price for a mixed lot going to pretty much always be lower than what you would get for selling everything separately? Am I way off, here?

Just needed to vent a little, thanks for reading.

well....
You are not way off. If I buy a lot that is offered together, I sometimes buy items along inside I don't really want but will get if I win it (ebay) for a good bid, or if a local seller gives me a cut rate for an entire collection vs. individual prices. Selling off ponies individually can be a lot of work, so they make more, but it costs more time. Reasonable people will usually be happy with a lower price, that gets everything gone in one go. Likewise, when people have bought large amounts of items from me at once, I like cutting a deal, my time is money. :)

I have had issues with Craigslist. Seeing a picture with "make me an offer", me sending a fair offer for unknown, uncleaned ponies and the seller responding upset that they have been lowballed "they go for hundreds on ebay". It's been parents selling their children's collections, or adults selling childhood ponies and they simply don't understand strangers are not going to pay for the markup of sentimental value that owner has placed on their toys. I'm talking well beyond collectors prices! I'm still nice, maybe show them an ebay listing of what these things sell for and say something like "I can understand the sentimental attachment, if you list them in an ebay auction I suggest setting a reserve so you can keep them if the price doesn't meet your expectations"

:) It's normal to have ponies you simply walk away from.

What pony was it? Where did you buy her? Can you open an Item Not as Described case and get your money back?

If you paid with paypal (not as a gift payment) you can return the pony for a refund less shipping. Like Skeen said, you have to open an "item not as described" case. You'd have to ship it back with a recorded method, but I agree paying $300 for a misrepresented flawed pony worth $100 is horrible and well worth returning for your money back!

It is Applebelle I got her from a seller in Italy.
I really could live with the rubs but the hair is really awful.
I guess I just try to rehair her even though I have no idea how that works.
Anyone near Norfolk Virginia that knows how to do it? :winkpony:
Is it possible just to replace the first about 15 plugs on each side or do I have to do the whole pony? Can't even get the head off it is so hard on. Scared to "cut" her though. Tried it with real hot water. Maybe she was opened before and clued back together..... it's not coming off at all. Not even losing up in places....
For that money I really prefered a pony just to display, oh well it can't be that easy right? :smilepony:

Is there a link to the auction site you bought her from? I'd like to see the seller's description. Just curious, really. :winkpony:

Are you saying you asked a seller to end an auction for you? Not cool.

That is extremely frowned upon in this community. Ending auctions early or asking a seller to end early robs everyone else of the chance to bid fairly. If you're going to do it, don't advertise that you do because you won't win yourself any fans.

And I'm not advertising anything here. I have been asked and I gave an honest answer. Sorry, I am an honest person, I know that is rare nowadays and you have to pretend something so others like you. But that is not me.
Wondering if you just waited for me to write this with ebay because you assumed that is what happened so you can crush me down and tell me what a bad person I am? I made a mistake, I paid for it and nothing I can do about this now.
Maybe I going to **** because an ebay seller offered me to buy it now.
If that what this community is about then I don't want to be here anymore because that takes all the fun and happiness away. I don't want to have to be careful what I write because others could hate me. HATE in a My little Pony Forum? For real?
No thanks! I just wanna live my life being happy and speaking my mind, life is already hard enough without this ridiculous conversations.
How can I delete my profile? I have no clue. Admin please just erase me thanks!

AND I'm not here to make fans, I'm here because I love ponies and they are a piece of my childhood. I am who I am. And if you don't like it.....I couldn't care less

Wow, dude. Chill.

I hadn't the slightest clue the seller ended the auction until you admitted it. I wanted to see the seller's pics to find out if it was possible to see the haircut. I only assumed it was an auction because that is a really rare pony and it's uncommon to find one for sale on the boards, especially one for sale with the attitude your seller had toward your concerns over her condition.

YOU were the one who offered up the info that he'd ended an auction for you. This community and this board in particular have a long-standing unwritten rule that you do not ask for auctions to end early. It's bad form. As a newbie here, I thought you might not have been aware, so I told you. It's no skin off my nose if you ended an auction or not, but that's not something condoned in the community and people who freely admit to doing it aren't often looked upon favorably. I didn't want you to come off looking bad for something you might not have known wasn't kosher here.

But you managed to come off looking bad all on your own, so perhaps I shouldn't have wasted my breath.

Way to make a first impression.

Seconded!

Anyways to get back on topic.... To sellers like that, I don't usually give a second look at their moldy overpriced Peachys and Rusted BB-Babys.
Just because it's a toy that is vintage and collectable doesn't mean that every pony is worth it's weight in gold.

Yeah, I just need to walk away and say "no thanks" and not dwell on it. But a lovely collection of G1 ponies in pristine condition are not easily forgotten, even if they are a bunch of commons!

Ya win some, ya lose some. I have gotten sucked into overpaying before, and I regretted it afterwards, but I have also had extreme luck and gotten lots of ponies, even rare ones, at total bargain prices. Good things come to those who wait! :winkpony:

Ladies, Sassi admitted this was something she didn't want to do again, and that the seller offered to end the auction, not her. Let's let her be. It's an unfortunate situation all the way around.

Sassi you are welcome to stay around if you want. We all make mistakes, I know I have!

Let's try to keep the rest of this thread on topic.

I'm happy I haven't had to deal with people who think they know so much about MLP values (when they actually know nothing about them), but I can see where it can be very frustrating. What gets me is when people try to come off sounding like they are all knowing about a subject when it is very clear that they do not. I've had that happen to me on subjects other than MLP. Very annoying!

What would anger me the most is if these people are able to convince a new collector that their items are far more valuable than they are and someone ends up spending far more than is necessary. :madpony: I don't like when people are taken advantage of when they just don't have all the information and are trusting the person giving the value. Of course a seller could be unwittingly selling something without realizing they overcharged, but in cases where a buyer comes along who can show they are a collector and gives a different value, I'd hope that a responsible seller would research the product more in order to correct themselves.

Oh the joys of buying and selling.

One gem I heard from a "knowledgeable" seller: "Every pony comes with its own baby."

One seller told me that "the big ones are worth 20€, the small ones are worth 15€"....

Another seller gave me a flat rate of 5€ per adult, 3€ per baby. (I didn't argue with that one!)

So collectors, take note: babies are worth less, because they are smaller. Or something.

I totally have my fingers crossed for that when flea market season rolls around. G4s are gonna be like a quarter (I hope) since they are so small! YIPPEEE!!
