One thing I've found is that where there's tail rust, there's often mold (since the pony was wet inside at some point), so I always remove the heads and give the insides a thorough cleaning with an old toothbrush and dishsoap, and some diluted bleach if necessary to help kill the mold. You can use a pair of pliers to pull the tails out from the inside, remove the washer and throw it away, then wash the tail separately. Usually dish soap will get the rust out, but you can buy rust remover if that doesn't cut it. After everything is completely dried out, re-assemble the pony.
As for the smell, I've never personally had that problem, but I believe one of the popular remedies for stinky ponies is to place them in a ziploc bag with baking soda and leave it in the freezer for a couple days.

Hmm. I have never used it myself but you may want to try one of the disinfectants made to eliminate pet odors. If you have a health food store in your area there is a product called "Bac Out" by Bio Clean. Not sure how well it works on cat smell but it worked amazing when my dog had a belly issue after he got into some old pineapple.
It really sucks that the person did not disclose this information in the listing. Cat wiz is very obvious so its not like they didn't know.
Good Luck! They are such a pretty bunch of girls. I hope you can de-stink them!

I've found the best the thing for removing tail rust is toothpaste. After you remove the tail, wet it thoroughly and scrub all the rusty bits with toothpaste. Afterwards just wash and condition the tail as normal. Pay special attention to the little metal clip that holds the tail together - if that's still rusty the tail can rust again when you put the pony back together and turf the tail washer if thats rusty.

Oh and I agree about detergent/mild bleaching if the insides are rusty and moldy that's a really good idea too.

Hope some of that helps your ponies out:)

Check out "tutorials" They have a de-rusting one.
For the kitty pee smell, try Urine Cleen. It works great.

The smell may be from the mold, too -- you'd be surprised how potent it can be sometimes. I'd try the de-rusting tutorial, clean the innards really well, and then see if that helps the smell.

If not, I've buried stinky ponies in clean cat litter for a couple months. That helps. Febreeze may also help a bit, though despite my sig I've yet to have a really good success story on a pony. (Works great on plushies, though!)

thank you all so much!!!!
so kind of you all to take the time to help me out :catfly:

i currently have the ponies in baking soda ziplock baggies in the freezer. since i already had all ingredients necessary...
if that doesnt work ill move on to the next easiest suggestion! ha!!:bath:

thank you again!!

you could just try washing them in warm water with a nice smelling shampoo, like strawberries or apples or other fruits. that should do the drink, cause im sure you dont want to use pinesol, i think i have used that on clothes that has cat pee or spray on it.

I've heard liquid Dial soap works really well. Helps get cigarette smoke out anyway. It might work for pee as well.
