Well, I saw the new episode of FIM, the Secret of my Excess, on youtube just now, and I am appalled at what they have done to Lickety Split. They made her a boy! I can't believe the level of incompetency hasbro has working for them. This is blasphemy! Lickety Split has always been one of my favorite Ponies and to see this is an outrage. What happened to them "loosing all the copyrights to all the original ponies"?Even my brother agrees with me. Post your thoughts if you agree that this renovation is a terrible turn for the worst.

I havent seen the episode but the thought of lickety split being a boy is pretty upsetting :(

I hardly find a name for a cartoon pony "outrageous" or "blasphemous." It's just a name. Hasbro lost the rights to the designs of the ponies, not necessarily the names. There was a G3 named Lickety-Split as well. She was purple and bore no resemblance to the G1. Calm down and just enjoy the show.

What?! What?! Lickety Split isn't even a boy name!! You're right, this is crazy. - scoff - Idiots.

Well FIM is a brand new show..a whole new design and I guess they are going a new direction with things which would lead to things like this happening. I don't think the company cares at all about the names of ponies from G1 to G4. They see their company product moving forwards..not back. So, I would imagine we will see a lot of changes that some collectors may not like. ...a name will be just like anything else I guess. The kids being raised on FIM could care less. They don't have any emotional connections to G1. Sometimes when I look at ponies I think of them as boys even though they are not...they just seem boyish to me. Sorry you are upset.

I don't think it's a big deal, no--I thought this incarnation was really cute. I actually wasn't certain what gender it was--I'll have to rewatch the episode.

*sigh*

At least they acknowledge that Lickety' exists!

This.

The fact that it's a male and doesn't look like G1 is fine. At least Hasbro REMEMBERS Lickety Split.

I don't see the big deal . . . it's the same name, but not the same pony. And "Lickety-Split isn't a boy's name"? LOL, why not?

Is it possible that they are allowed to use the names if the pony is entirely different from the ones released as toys?

Frankly, I think this is more a case of Hasbro not actually knowing which names belong to G1. They probably consider Lickety-Split a G3 name; I doubt if the current Hasbro employees really know that much about G1.

I also think the whole "oh, we don't hold the copyrights" thing was just a ruse to push G3 ponies like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash into the show, due to Hasbro having invested so much advertising into them in G3.

Given that the symbol was nearly identical to G3 Lickity Split, I doubt Hasbro was even thinking of the G1 version My Little Pony Rereleases Encyclopedia

That being said, this is a whole new generation of ponies. Yes some names will be borrowed (as they have in the past). Yes some color schemes will be borrowed (as they have in the past). But it is Hasbro's product to do with as they want. Their target range is kids. Kids that barely know what a cassette tape is, I doubt any of the demographic that they're trying to reach with Friendship is Magic is going to storm the headquarters over the blasphemy of a baby boy pony that had a whopping 5 seconds of air time.

+1

all I was gonna post was that +1, but the board requires that I add a little more fluff to an otherwise concise post :p

This is so so so how I feel about this....

I grew up with G1 and I have no problem with this. For all those who don't like Lickety Split being a boy--maybe think of him as G1 Lickety Split's grandson, named after her? Perhaps that might make him more palatable for you.

I also agree that the current Hasbro staff are likely thinking of the G3 pony. The symbol certainly looks much more like the G3 version than the G1 version.

Aww thats quite ugly :( No offence if you like these characters. They look like llamas with long hair hehe. Reminds me of a childhood horse i had in a set called Casey :) Definitely does not suit the name anymore. Maybe they should have edited the name to something more suitable! Thanks for the pic!
