To me it doesn't seem as bad as I initially thought.... I might actually have some positive feelings for it now.

When I saw this on facebook I was like oh no.... I'm so disappointed that this is related to the show I love and care about. People will look down on the series I feel and it makes me sad... Don't they listen to there fans I feel like the don't read any comments and feedback people say... This is suppose to appeal to older teens... What..?

I saw this and thought, oh heck no they did not just do this.

Then I thought, wait I've seen this idea before or something very similar...
Friendship Is Magic 01 by ~mauroz on deviantART

A webcomic titled Friendship is Magic. The story line looks very close to this comic compared to this movie. I think Hasbro took from the comic. If they did, that's not good for Hasbro to take so much from someone else's fan work even.

I'll watch it, just once, but if it truly is so close to that webcomic, not good for Hasbro is all I can say. Other than that, Hasbro should NEVER, EVER jump the shark. They've ruined themselves if they continue any further down this dark path.

As a collector, I'm not really happy about this movement towards 'human' ponies, so I just try to associate this with G4 only. It makes it a little easier to accept, since the toys produced so far have been..... less than ideal quality and quantity (of characters other than the 'mane 6', anyways).

As a movie, this looks to be entertaining as far as this kind of story can go. I mean, you can only watch so much Monster High before getting super bored of all the fake high-school drama... The dolls could be cute, but I can't see this being nearly as big a hit for Hasbro as G4 has been so far. I'm gambling on them taking a loss for this.

It is nice, however, to see that the voice actors are the same. Makes it so much easier to accept the human bodies.

As for Sunset Shimmer.... it was a bit of a shock to see her as the villain, but I had already gotten the 'rival for Twilight' feeling from her on the story on her back card. I'll buy the pony for my collection, but as far as character personalities go I could care less.

I don't know. It looks like what it's marketed as: an offshoot of the series to target the girls who think they are "too old" for My Little Pony. My opinion hasn't really changed. I'll watch it when it comes on the Hub. I'm not necessarily excited about it, but I'm not upset because it's not affecting the My Little Pony line. That being said, I do like the parallel universe concept. Interesting point of view. And I notice Twilight's not an alicorn yet in the trailer, so I guess this takes place sometime before the Season 3 finale.

Guys, did you not notice?

There is, apparenty, a Sunset Shimmer expy. Possibly the same Sunset Shimmer that was supposedly one of Celestia's former students.

Twilight actually is an alicorn in this, she just has her wings folded, and then is wearing saddle bags that hide her wings before going through the mirror. :smilepony:

I'll probably just watch this on youtube whenever somebody gets around to posting it. I couldn't see myself actually paying for a theatre ticket unless it managed to somehow come to my small-town movie theatre since they only charge $7 a ticket, lol.

I would say easily over 95% of the comments on facebook are negative on the Official MLP page, and the other 5% are saying give it a chance no one is excited for this I have seen yet...

They should have just made a REAL My Little Pony Movie it would have done so well! I would have went several times and bought the movie as well! Also I know for a fact if would do better and make more money what are these people thinking!!!!

Well, aren't you just a big ball of sunshine? You are aware that the last time Hasbro made a MLP movie, it flopped horribly? Box Office Mojo has it at #34 on their list of Worst Openings.

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, we're not the ones Hasbro is trying to please? If the little girls end up liking this, Hasbro will be happy. What, you actually want Hasbro to lose money on this? Money that could be shunted towards the main line to give us more toys?

I'm reminded of the whole "TRUKK NOT MONKEY" thing the Transformers fandom went through when Hasbro brought out Beast Wars. Only this time it's "PONEE NOT HUGHMAN."

Ugh, this is just really disappointing. I can't believe they don't realize that older teens like the show as it is. Huge waste of money for Hasbro.

Agreed, although apparently this is suppose to appeal to "older teens" and NOT younger girls, I don't see how. Teenage girl high school drama, and bad body images for girls is all I see.

If you are referring to me, sorry I am passionate about my opinion and going off of what the community as said, in my posts, times have changed since the G1 tv Show, I actually loved the movie and tv show, but I think nowadays the collectors, young kids, teens, adults, and bronies, have all come together to really appreciate the new MLP G4 tv show. I think it is a lot more popular now then it ever was, espically more than G3's tv show. Anyways I don't understands Hasbros logic in trying to create an alternate universe with the PONIES we have come to love.. made into anorexic teen girls . The obviously do not listen to their fans about what we want.

I don't understand why they couldn't have done this same story, but do the story with them as ponies. Why do they have to be human?

And I agree, times have changed since the first MLP movie was released. There was probably many factors as to why it didn't do so well, one I think it was limited released and only played on certain days at certain times. IDK. I do know that I saw it when it was in the theater. :smilepony: Also the G4 ponies have a much larger fan base then the G1s.

>G3 TV show

BronyGalore, there was no G3 TV show; just DVDs and shorts. I also know tons of fans (G1, G4 and otherwise) who are super excited for this too.

The people who are going to comment on FB posts are people who are Internet savy aka bronies. A good chunk of bronies aren't happy about this, so they're going to be vocal about this. I'm neutral about this, but I keep laughing how people of all generations think this is going to bankrupt Hasbro, is a huge mistake, is going to end MLP etc. It's not. As said in this thread, same thing happened with the Transformers fandom.

Stuff like this has happened over and over and over again throughout history. Did the Star Wars Christmas Special kill Star Wars? Did Beast Wars kill Transformers? Did My Little Pony Tales kill MLP? Did Teen Titans Go! kill DC? Of course not.

If you don't like it, don't watch it, don't buy it, etc. But screaming on the Internet about it won't change anything, it will only make you look immature and further the stereotype that bronies are entitled brats. Yelling "Kill it with fire!" is what a number of broneis say about anything pre G4, and we all saw how that affected how the collector and older gen community (like myself) feels about broneis.

Exactly Sweetie read the comments on this post..

Do they even listen to the fans....? We are the consumers of your products, come on hasbro. So many are so upset over this, my biggest fear is they hope to transition this show and take over and stop showing MLP: FIM, and show this crap instead.. :( I hope the show Equestria Girls gets cancelled, and we put this is in a vault lock it up and never speak of it again.

@Phekzhen

I know I just meant G3 as a whole (I have seen every single movie/episode of all gens) Well I'm defiantly not immature, and I don't think the majority of bronies are either, I'm a 21 year old guy who just happens to be very passionate about my beliefs I was making a joke about the fire thing haha.. Anyways I grew up watching G1 and G1.5 MLP Tales I loved it as a kid it was my favorite show, we also had the movie and I loved it so much! Anyways I was a male fan before Bronies existed.

Brony Galore, have some graphs:

neilsonrat.jpg

Source: MLP Nielsen Ratings Age Comparison | Derpy Hooves News

Note that over 50% of the audience for all three episodes analyzed are ages 2-11, also known as the demographics for FiM. The "Not-women 18-49", or most bronies, is actually a really small amount of people who watch the show. Women 18-49, or most collectors, are also a really small amount.

The "fans" are little kids, that's who Hasbro is marketing to. This product will do well with them, not the smaller demographics that are bronies or collectors. Hasbro hasn't been barely paying collectors/older gen fans during G4, because there's not that many out there compared to little kids and their parents.

There isn't an EqG show, the movie isn't going to affect the FiM show in any way. It's a spin-off, a one-shot, that has nothing to do with the main continuity. Just ignore it.

I see your point, although I hate hate hate to be the bear of bad news....
"The movie — titled “My Little Pony: Equestria Girls” — will be released on DVD later in the United States and other markets worldwide, followed by a television debut on the Hub network in the fall." Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/13/b...e-pony-offshoot-in-its-movie-debut.html?_r=3&

Also I read that this was suppose to appeal to older fans, that's where I don;t know what they are thinking, if they wanted to target only little girls then this would be fine, but anyways I think little kids would also appreciate seeing a back story of say Princess Luna and Princess Celestia's history, or a Movie with ponies just as much so why not stick with that is where my confusion comes in.

One other thing I don't have the channel so I watch all the episodes online as well as thousands of others of bronies, etc. Those numbers aren't taken into account.
