So, I was watching the new episode again and there were to me a few anime references that I recognized. Big Mac's dream transformation looked a lot like Sailor Moon to me. And then the giant pony Tantabus reminded me of the nightwalker from Ghibli' s Princess Mononoke. There might be others I'm not picking up. I'm sure in almost every episode there is an external fandom reference the show creators like to sneak in.

I'll have to check it out! I'm behind on my viewing (MLP and Steven Universe too...) so I need to make myself a catch-up night.

I thought transformation looked a bit more like this

I did like that the animators made references to older episodes, like Adult Spike from A dog and pony show from Season 1, etc. And Barney, no one can forget Barney XD

I immediately thought of Sailor Moon when I saw Big Mac's transformation and yeah, definitely had some Princess Mononoke going on with the pony Tantabus.

My husband said Bic Mac looked like Sailor Moon too! I've never seen any Sailor Moon stuff, so I wasn't sure how accurate he was.
