MLPTP "Back to School" Discussion

Baby Paws is soooo distractable! First the shiny-shiny rulers!

Then the lollipops

And he was NOT happy about the folder choices!

*or* the spiral notebooks

He almost sarcastically cheered when he finally found the lunchboxes (see assignment #2 thread for proof)

I think I might end up taking my little cousin with us. People expect a little girl to be carrying a pony with her :lolpony:

There's an idea! :) I actually have a pony-obsessed step-niece available for just such occasions LOL!

Love your photos, Nan! Baby Paws looks so dashing with black hair, too!

Got her from TIny SHinyUnique! Not sure who did the rehair, if she did or someone else. Otherwise, I didn't want Baby PAws with the pink hair, just never looked right to me :)

I'm so excited for this challenge but I'm worried if I bring my ponies out we might be asked if we're shop lifting them. My fiance is a big 6'5 340 pound gutter punk and I'm a metal head with purple hair so we usually get hassled when we go into stores x_x

If you bring older gen Ponies this may not be a problem, unless you're going into a charity/secondhand store.

I was also concerned about people thinking I was shoplifting, but there are so few G4s on shelves here that I don't think anyone would have noticed or suspected anything. I had more of a problem with taking ponies out with me, as 90% of them are still MIB and the ones that aren't are all imported, so not easily replaced if someone tried to confiscate them or took a grab for one while I wasn't looking. Pinkie Pie's the only mane 6 (i.e. effectively bait) pony that I have unboxed, so I quickly stuffed her into my handbag before I went out to the shops with my boyfriend.

I had to go to a few different stores to get the photo done. The first couple of places had no baskets and were either too busy or had extremely bored staff standing around staring at us as we walked through the shop. Eventually we had to go to the department store to find a basket trolley for the photos. There were about 4 aisles of stationery, so there was plenty to choose from, and luckily it's not back-to-school time here, so there was only the occasional person walking past me as I took my time setting everything up in the basket. I was still worried about them thinking I was shoplifting with Pinkie, so I took a look down the toy aisle to see if they still had ponies there, but I couldn't find anything. Then as I started walking away, my boyfriend discovered one lonely little Twilight Sparkle lying discarded on a shelf under the Littlest Pet Shop stuff. I dragged the trolley into a spot with decent lighting, put Twilight in there, then looked around cautiously, pulled Pinkie out of my bag and put her down next to her. I took a few photos, then quickly stuffed Pinkie back into my purse, grabbed Twilight and headed to checkout. :p

I still haven't got the extra credit photo done, though. Of the three or four different stores we looked at, literally none of them had horse/pony/unicorn/pegasus themed stationery. No pens, notebooks, binders, pencil cases, not even wrapping paper! There used to be tons of the stuff when I was a little girl, even back when I was in high school, but now everything is either Monster High, Disney Princess, Hello Kitty, abstract or blank. I didn't even see anything Barbie. Looks like I'm either going to have to go to the mall this week and try a few other stores, or try to get sneaky points for it, or be forced to leave it out entirely... :(

I'm glad it worked out for you, ladyofthenight! :) Remember, sneaky points are better than no points!

SweetieBabyFizzy you are so clever!

heheheh I didn't see that we needed pictures of ponies at a store in a shopping cart until I have finished all my shopping for the weekend

I also had trouble with the extra credit assignment. Target's back to school aisle was decimated. Too close to school now. I wanted to grab some of the G4 folders and notebooks my boyfriend has in our merch for our Brony meets but I never got a chance. I'll try to find some in the wild on the way home tomorrow but if not just my entry will be uploaded.

I felt weird taking my giant camera in the grocery store with my kids in a foreign country. I chickened out and took my picture in the parking lot. I don't have a phone with a camera here, just a big camera and very dumb phone. We did what we could.

Erg I felt like such a nerd being a grown adult walking around with my ponies in my hand. I drug my mom with me so that I didn't have to do it alone. She laughed at me the whole time strutting around walmart with my Geek Flag flying high! P.S. the "online shopping" was brilliant! Wish I had thought of that lol!

My fiance and I had a fun time as well when we went to the shopping center. We got the items we needed into our cart and tried to hide in the hardware section so we could take the picture. We got the pictures done alright. However just as we finished an old man with a 'I fought in Vietnam' hat, the nastiest scowl, and the biggest USA belt buckle I've ever seen walked towards us. Needless to say he was not pleased with the us 'playing with plastic horses' and blocking off his toilet seats.

Eep I gotta get rolling on this, the deadline sneaked up on me. Question, pony in a pony sized basket or shopping cart = fair game? I have an idea but don't want to miss out on bonus points!

These are so fun. I'm having a blast just making props. Here's an extra photo. I made my babies some snacks. My son seems to think the snack name may not be appropriate. Heh.

Yummers! My babies go wacky for their nomnom snackies!

PS My first shopping pic stars my lovely new Minty that Ology sent me! I love her to pieces, so I made her a star!

I love that mini shopping trolley! Where did you get it?!

It's my son's, he's a thrift store hound, so who knows where it came from. He's starting to make little stop motion films, so he bought it as a prop.

I'm glad he had it, because I wouldn't have been able to go to the store like this. And I would be afraid of getting nabbed for shoplifting too. It would be just my luck to get busted for boosting Ponies. lol!

I'm too fat to go to jail! :lolpony:

I'm sorry for stealing your idea there for my bonus photo, sweetiebabyfizzy... The funny thing is, when I was going through the entire department store on the weekend looking for pony themed stuff, my boyfriend actually suggested doing the online shopping photo instead. I ended up not doing it earlier because I thought it was too sneaky... :pBut the fact is, we found nothing useful. I'd asked him to go out to the mall today so that I could try a few other stores before having to resort to that, but he had to work when he got home (he's an IT tech on support), so there was no time for it. I ended up just taking the photo quick before the deadline closed so that I could avoid another late entry. :( I was already sick when I had to do the last one...

Here's a picture I took with literally the only horse/pony/unicorn themed stuff we could find:

That's a gift bag, a card and a funny looking colouring page with marker pens... I didn't feel like I could post that, since it's not even proper stationery, let alone school supplies...

Give it a go, ladyofthenight! :) You never know what the judges might accept, and there are 3 of them for this event (myself not included), so personally I'd give it a shot anyway. We're all here to have fun, try not to worry too much about the rules--that's what sneaky points are for, after all ;)
