:helpsmilie: So I'm moving in a month, and I've packed up all my ponies and merch. *what a heartbreaking thing to do...* I was pleasantly surprised when the total number of boxes was 8, seeing as I have only been collecting for a year now.

But I left some ponies out and carefully put them into a small suitcase, which will be my carry-on when I take the bus for my 10 hour trek to my new town.

The ponies in the suitcase are all my very favourites, including; Mimic, Non-SS Buttons, all my Rainbow Curl ponies, and Little Flitter (with wings!) plus a few G2's, 3's and 4's.

So I guess my question is.... am I being paranoid about not wanting anything to happen to my girls? I thought if I had them safely packed on the bus I could make sure they don't get bumped around or lost, or damaged with the rest (in the case of something crazy random like a flood or house fire) who are in storage at my parent's until I get a permanent place in my new town.

What do you guys do with your ponies when you have to move? I'm so nervous.... This is my first time moving with my pony collection. :uhoh:

When I moved, I personally drove my ponies in plastic boxes to their new home. They were in the backseat of the car and I was driving really carefully, haha!
They stayed in their boxes until the rest of my stuff had been moved and it was safe for them to come out again...

Oh my, yes.... I can see that being me! In fact, when I come back to get the rest of my things I just KNOW that the ponies will be the items driving in the car, NOT in the U-Haul trailer....

I've moved a few times now, I have a large plastic storage tub and I wrap all mine in tissue paper so they don't get their symbols scratched and place them in, they always travel in the car! However, where I moved to I couldn't really have them out as space is so incredibly limited, I'm in a small studio flat with my partner. So my guys have been in storage :'( But, since clearing out lots of old stuff and reorganising my space, my ponies will be back soon! I can't wait to see them all! :D

I put each pony in a individual zippy baggie and packed them all in plastic totes.

Until recently, mine remained in a huge, plastic bin....my grandmother kept them for me. Now, I would pack them up a lot more neatly. I say you're doing the good pony-mommy thing!

I've been in the process of moving for a while now, my husband and I have taken 3 trips down to our new house on the plane to bring stuff down there, and each time we have only taken what can fit in our carry-on bags so that we can keep an eye on our stuff. All of my ponies are now in the new house without me. We should be making our final move in December and I am sure I will have another nice pile of ponies to bring with me by then.

My MOC ponies I was little more careful with so they didn't get the corners damaged or the bubbles ruined. I actually packed those in totes wrapped in bubble wrap and packing popcorn to absorb any bumps or if it got dropped.

You're not paranoid at all. I end of moving a lot because of my husband's work and I always have something go wrong every time with the moving company (or companies).

Most of my G1 ponies go in an old sturdy wooden suitcase. The MIB or on card go in boxes with paper. If the ponies are going to be in storage for a period of time I use plastic bins and desiccant packs. Luckily I've sold most of my playsets so I don't have to worry about them anymore. The one time I didn't pack all my MLP items myself the packers ended up breaking my Dream Castle.

And I always carry a couple of ponies with me personally just because I couldn't bear to lose them. I've lost ponies (Rapunzel) before moving as well somehow.
I have Locket (the first pony I received as a child) in a bag I keep ready in case of evacuations due to disasters as well.

GAH..I have been hauling ponies around with me for...*counts* 12 years now...
Amtrak, greyhound, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines <----Sucks at Luggage delivery - United Airlines<-----tried to Taxi off WITHOUT my dog on board in Chicago (seriously, they had to STOP the plane because one of those luggage carts was chasing after it. I look out the window and see like 5 empty carts and in the middle one there was my dog)
New York, Alaska, Arizona, Florida and back again :violin:

You're not paranoid at all! Hahaha, I know whenever I have to move my ponies and dolls I'm always so paranoid about heat getting to them!

:)

I would do the same thing as you. Any time I fly I put the most important items on my carry on just in case something happens to the checked bags.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is concerned as much! My mom suggested getting some wood pallets to put all my boxes on, so that they are off the ground in case something happens like a flood. :S

I'm still really worried about them being boxed up and stored, but at least I'll have my favourites with me in case something happens!!

Oh man, I remember when I had to pack my pony porcelains for moving. It was only 2 miles down the road but I packed them in like 10 different boxes so they wouldn't be crowded, and I think I spent more money on bubble wrap for them than I did in closing costs on the house I was moving them into...

OOOH - I have noticed that whenever i put them in boxes and then reopend the boxes they get this black stuff on them. It looks like black crayon and I have no idea how it even gets on them.

Black stuff?!? Oh my.... Does it come off? :seestars:

Aha..most of mine are still away in storage and have been for several years now. (I'm a terrible owner, I know!) But I couldn't take them to college with me and I never ended up coming home to retrieve them all. I will eventually. At least I know they're safe, tucked away nicely in my folks' barn. ;u;

I'm hoping mine will only be in storage for 2 or 3 months maximum... Anything more than that and I'll be a total wreck!! *nervous laughter*
