My adventure at a multi family yard sale in a rich neighborhood..

This is pony related...but it's at the end of the story lol
So I went to a ritzy part of the area because I saw on Craigslist an ad for a multi family yard sale. I'm not used to this scenario. I've never been to very upper class multi family yard sale (Economy MUST be bad if those types have to sell their stuff).

I pulled up to the cul de sac and noticed right away that all their lawns were "golf course" perfect. Not one weed , yellow patch, lawns perfectly mowed even. and signs all over telling people not to walk on their lawns (yes I've driven by nice neighborhoods a million times but never really walked around one). So the yard sales were strictly on driveways or in the street.
Next thing I notice is that more than half the toys people were selling were MIB! Barbies, games, desks, electronics, clothes with tags, etc. They were selling them for ridiculous prices too. No ponies yet...I really thought I'd find something good but no.
Someone was selling real designer handbags too.
The last bit gets me. One of the residents was walking around with a tray of pastries asking customers if they would like any...I felt like I was at a wedding getting offered apps. I finally found a plush tinka and a toy car for my son but that was it. At every single house, the children did the transactions. Parents just lounged :)
Odd morning I had...

I have been to yard sales like that before, I come out of the Tundra in my sweats and a ball cap knowing I am the worst looking thing they have seen all day  Normally the stuff they are selling is way out of my price range for yard sale but every now and then I find something great. It is the same here with the kids doing everything and the parents just gossiping (about the hick in the truck). Different but I go back hoping to find some of the great deals on stuff.

How bizarre. Did you hear the Twilight Zone theme song...?

haha I swear I heard that song! I forgot to add that the yard sale in the normal neighborhood I went to afterwards gave me great entertainment...2 old women in a shouting match over prices :D

strange, the rich people in your area are odd. around here, they do sell drinks and brownies and the like, but their stuff is really nice, and usually really cheap!
I found lots of clothes for my kids!

Yikes! I don't do a lot of yard sale-ing these days, but when I do I tend to drive right by the nicer neighborhoods/larger houses. Those type of places just don't scream "we've got ponies" to me, lol. At least you got a plushie out of the deal. :eek:k:

all i have to say is that if i was a kid and my parents were making me do all the work while they sat around... I'd pocket at least 25% of the profit while they were not looking... lol!!

no kidding! but those kids probably get everthing they ask for anyway.

When ever I go in my area. Things mint in package are seen as worth more than retail value. Most furnature unless it is visably broken is above 20 dollars. Garments and Accessories don't go for any less than what someone would spend on something new at Target. I tend to think that some of these people don't know what the value of things are because they probably higher personal shoppers to do their shopping in general.

Though there is once in a blue moon that there are common since garage sales inbetween the not well informed garage sales. And they can be quite a bit fun. I've only participated in a garage sale once at a friends house since I lived far out of the country. I insisted that we should have a garage sale because I hadn't experienced one as a child.

I think I would have fun doing another one. But my garage sale would be super nifty and things would be in better shape than most garage sales I have seen yesterday.

My biggest problem yesterday is that the majority of the garage sales I went to yesterday, people thought they could profit out of just pretty much junk that should of been thrown away years ago. Yes, I want a dead cellphone battery and a charger that perhaps worked on a phone ummm 5 years ago, thank you so much.

Oh Yes, I would love those troll dolls that are covered in cigerette ash and smoke damage, thank you soo very much! Oh, what is that? a box of filthy happy meal toys, yes I would be obliged to dig through the dried up milk, ketchup and mayo covered toys to find a treasure! Thanks sooo very MUCH!

lol you drip with sarcasm

I went to one of those subdivision garage sales 7 years back. I went with my mum and when we arrived, we were given a map! Luckily I had lots of pony luck! I found around 150 ponies and it only cost me about $25 for the lot. I did not have enough cash on me as I also purchased other items so I kindly asked the owners to hold them for a half hour while I went to a cash point. They were very nice. I was also able to pick up lots and lots of care bears and strawberry shortcake dolls. It was like I hit the jackpot!

thats usually how it is for me too! but I only had a bit of money this weekend and I mostly bought clothes for the kids. I did find a couple of G3 playsets for 25 cents each though.

Oddly enough I have found that some of the upper-middle class garage sales around here have really cheap prices just because they want to get rid of stuff. I got a set of Care Bear Cousin sheets at one for $2. Another one had a set of 4 hand-carved chairs for $5. FIVE DOLLARS! If my car was bigger I would have immediately handed over the fiver and loaded them up.

Best pony deals for me?

A large box of nearly all year 2 and some year 3 ponies (with two Big Brothers) in perfect condition AND Dream Castle (with ALL accessories) for $12.

My sister-in-law got me Paradise Estate (minus the furnature) at another for $5. The pool canopy is broken and the front gate with the heart is missing. Still haven't gotten replacements for those.

Carry Case with 5 ponies for $10. What where the ponies? Firefly, Medley, Cotton Candy (MO) and Daffodil (birthflower) oh, and uh, LIL' TOT! YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAA!!! Still can't believe my luck on that one.

oh yard sales here are more common now than before but even that they are not so usually as I would like, and the ones I have seen they dont have ponies, but sounds so good to look for one at the rich zone maybe Lomas de Chapultepec hehe or El pedregal that rich girls could give me their ponies hihiihhi

Wow what a strange situation. It's so strange they price things so ridiculously high and actually expect people to pay that....sounds like they need a reality check.

They must think you're paying for the ambiance and appetizers? :hysterical:
