ok so I haven't made my first custom yet - even though I DO want to, I really am not that art savvy and would probably have trouble painting small details. However, my mom made a rather nice one. She named him "Captain Smoke Runner".

Thanks for putting him up DB. :) I wanted to add... he got his name because due to my screw ups (impatient to see end result...with the dye from the hair-job on my fingers... etc), he wound up looking like he trotted through bombs bursting in air... or something. But it was fun and now I want to do another one!:hippie:

you're welcome, and yes that's very clever :)

Thanks everybuddy. :)

Karen, thank you for the encouragement! I was so frustrated with the shaking hand thing trying to do the details-never knew about the pinky supporting thing! I'll also use a smaller brush next time for the tricker spots and try to thin the paint. Painting has always intimidated me. :uhoh:

And yeah that hair... supposed to be navy blue, looks more like the ole gray mare!!! But "we" decided he's not an old guy, just went and dashed through smoke.... Snort. :stitch_h4h:

"Captain" is the part of the name that aims toward the July 4th patriotic theme(...given that the colors turned out.. ahem, smokey-ish...), which makes me keep calling him a he. Which is silly, because women are as highly ranked as General these days! SO he should be a she (esp. with those dainty hooves) but she's already a he in my mind... which, as you can see, is a tad whirly.:hippie:

DBM: She is very cute. I think she looks great with the gray hair. I wish my mistakes came out so well. lol I can't wait to see your next one. :)

DB: I can't wait to see your first custom! Fear not about your artistic skills. I am not artistic at all, and I have attempted customs. My advice to you would be to just stick to what you know you can do at first. My first custom was so simple. Just a green pony with Easter eggs. Mostly because I knew it was something I could draw. This is how she turned out:

See....nothing too artsy. lol

Maybe you could practice drawing any designs you would want to put on a pony first on paper. Or rather, practice painting it first so see if you could do the details you want to add.

Either way, don't shy away DB. Trust me, even if she turns out a little wonky, you will still be proud of her. After all, you made her. So don't give up before you try. :)

thanks josiekat! And awesome easter egg pony you made there! :D
