My succulents have taken over, and here's how it happened:

I recently learnt baby succulents are called “chicks” and the mother plant is called the “hen”. Not sure if that’s all or just my sempervivums (which have completely taken over everything.)
This year I’ve finally managed to successfully propagate a succulent! More than once! I haven’t a clue what I did differently though apart from the fact these ones I managed are the same kind as the ones in your horse pots

I’m swamped in succulents yet again

I did not know that?

I just had to suddenly Google to make sure if it really is just my sempervivum breed. Seems like it is, but I guess it’s kind of cute to apply it to other succulents too. Although I have a few breeds of succulents I sometimes can’t tell what’s a semp and what’s not anymore…

Down here in the south that's what we call them, hens and chickens. Lol. I always thought it was funny, I didn't even learn the term succulents until I was older. I managed to kill mine from Jewel after babying them all summer so I guess I won't take any. I almost had some growing but I got impatient and put them outside.

I may be wrong, but I think the hen and chicks refers to a specific kind of succulent... not sure though!

Yay for propagating! The little green one in my unicorn planter is happy and healthy, but the poor "pink moonstone" in the other... LOL. I just don't live at the right climate for it. It arrived like a little bunch of bubblegum pink grapes, and then it just... well, that happened. LOL.

I am more than happy to send you more, just let me know! <3

That's what I knew them as ever since I was old enough to tell plants apart. I wonder if it's because they're super common in the south?

I helped maintain my university greenhouse for a few years. (I use help loosely, it was mostly just me). There were a lot of succulents, including Dusty Rose Echeveria that would grow on nearly bare concrete...

I had a lot of cactus and succulents flourish and reproduce under my care. I made my own soil mix. I used some cleaned Oklahoma loam, a little potting mix, and some perlite. I find the commercial blends to have too much sand. These dry out, get hard, and make it harder to get water right.

I don't keep many plants, currently, but I do have a Euphorbia ritchiei from that greenhouse that's supposed to be uncommon.

They are so pretty! I have a whole windowsill of succulents that I rescued from the trash. I live in a student neighborhood so lots of people throw their plants out at the end of the school year, and I can't bear to see the little guys go to the dump!

What? Why wouldn’t they just take them with them? :sadpony: Good job rescuing them !

Oh nooo!! I do the same thing at Lowes and try to get as many clearance plants as possible bc they throw them away the second they wilt. They wont water then enough:rolleyes: they told me they water then once a day and anything wilted by the end of the day is clearanced and isnt watered again they just sit it on a shelf for a few days to get worse then throw it away.
