Hello.

I recently recovered some of my original collection after a horrible incident involving a garage (and a ton of snow)landing on them.
They, among many of my other precious childhood possessions, got badly damaged by being trapped under a large amount of snow for a winter.
I have been using the FAQs and guides here and have managed to salvage some of the less-damaged ponies, but I am unsure of how to proceed with others.
I would love some advice on what the nature of the damage to these ponies is and how best to clean them, especially the scented pony since I would rather not make her lose her scent if possible (amazingly after all she's been through and filthy as she is, she still smells pretty nice)

I would also love if someone could identify these ponies, I am a bit rusty and have no idea what they are called any more sadly. I also would love to know how to get the little white baby pony's mane the right colour (not sure what colour it was to begin with?)

Thank you for any advice !

I think the tiny baby pony had a white mane/tail originally , but I am not certain.

I'm not the best at identifying ponies, but the white pony with the blue mane if she is a unicorn is majesty. The others I'm not sure but to clean them the first thing I can think of is a magic eraser and warm water, and for the hair warm water and conditioner/shampoo.

Ponies are, in order of pictures: Baby Cuddles(not sure if beddy-bye eye or not, can't see the face)came with the buggy, MGR Flower Bouquet, Sundae Best Coco Berry, Majesty, White baby pony was called just that; Baby pony, she was a gift for joining the activity club and international I believe, the last one is Cuddles as well, but she is a drink and wet baby.
Also, that baby pony mane and tail were white.

As for cleaning I can't say many have run into this particular problem. It looks to me though that they all have some mold from the wet snow on them. I would give them a good bath of warm water and mild soap first. Scrub what you can with a tooth brush. Majesty looks like she has some tail rust so you'll have to open her up and get that cleaned out. In fact it might be a good idea to open them all up, just to make sure they aren't worse inside. The first baby Cuddles has cancer spots, sorry to say. They really can't be gotten rid of, at least not to my knowledge. After a bath you should be able to get a better idea of what else is wrong with them, if anything. It's amazing what a good scrub can do for some ponies.

Thank you so much for the help! I think I have my work cut out for me fixing them up, but I have many fond memories of them so I am willing to give it a good try.

I would let them soak in a good concentrated mixture of washing machine powder and boiling water from the kettle then put whatever pony in the mixture for a hour . then result to an increasing mixture of bleach in water 20%bleach-80%water try hot water as this will move most of the soiling if no joy try 40%bleach-60% water
last resort is the local body-repair-shop and get a re-spray lol
do let us know how you get on

I would not suggest the boiling for the ponies with the pink hair. Especially Baby Cuddles or the Merry Go Round pony. The pink will bleed and stain the pony more. The white/white baby should be fine with boiling though, but make sure the hair has a good coating of hair conditioner on her.

It does look like mold, rust and a good coating of dirt. Baby Cuddles looks likes rust coming from the inside. A small head toothbrush helps best with that.

I've cleaned up ponies like that.

Anyway, in this case you'll be breaking neck seals and removing heads and pulling out tails. Then, quickly rinse the outsides of the bodies/heads, suds with soap, rinse off- just to get most of the surface mold off them.

tails with rust- dip the clamp end in a small dish of lemon juice submerging the rusty areas. leave overnight at least. Whatever rust remains will clean off the tails easily! They will stink- but after a good wash, rinse and condition after there should be no more stinky lemon smell. I use an old toothbrush and soap to scrub off the remainder.

For the bodies,
If they're gross inside- fill with hot water and shake, pour out. quickly go over with a toothbrush with soap suds, rinse. Now, what I do for caked on rust and mold is make up a very small batch of Oxy using a couple cups of kettle water and a couple tablespoons of oxy powder. I pour enough in the body so it's full, but not pouring out of the tail hole or neck rim. I leave the ponies somewhere watersafe as the cleaner will foam up as it works, bubbling over onto the counter. After a while but before the pony is cold I pour her out and finish cleaning the rest of the way with soapy toothbrushes and small tube/bottle brushes (check baby supply aisles at walmart and such, what you need is a small wire brush that will get into hooves). The Oxy will have loosened the remaining dirt and it should be easy to remove all traces of it.

For heads I'll dip my brush into the oxy and give them a scrub on the inside.

To get the outsides beautifully clean- soaping your pony, then taking a damp magic eraser will do wonders.

*edit*
any ponies with mold inside the hair plugs, a soak in a weak bleach solution will de-mold inside those plugs. That newborn baby should be mostly white again after that! I just soak the parts that need it, in this case it would be the heads.

Thanks so much for the tips. May have a crack at fixing them this weekend if I have time. Will let you all know how it goes if I do.

Looks like the weather isn't good enough to work on them this weekend (too messy for indoors don't want to get mould everywhere)

Had one question the 'pony cancer' on the baby pony ,some people say that will spread to other ponies and some people say it doesn't. Anyone know if that is the case ?
Maybe I shall keep him on his own or with other similarly affected ponies just in case.

If I'm right pony cancer is the type that doesn't spread, pony mould does. I'm pretty sure that's the case, but I'd keep him away from the others just in case it does spread.

I'd keep those ones apart from the others as they are so filthy, and they have quite a bit of surface mold on them. I wouldn't want to track that anywhere.

For the ponies with cancer, you could try sun-bathing them once the weather gets better. Just make sure the cancer spots are in the sunshine outside for a long time, and see what that does. You may be able to at least get the spots faded.

Also if you have a dish-washing machine, you could try running them all through (after pulling the heads off) for good measure.

You could do this before or after the rest of the cleaning processes!

The mouldy ones are in the mud-room for now away from other stuff. Thanks so much for all the tips!
Is there any risk in damaging the ponies permanently by removing the heads? They don't seem to come off easily.

I actually started getting teary looking at the photos so I couldn't see them all, sorry. I hope you can save them!!

I was really upset when my mother dropped them off.
I was rather mad at her for putting them there, but really she couldn't help it. Basically when I moved out she was in a tiny place and I was in a tiny apartment so there was nowhere for either of us to put them, but I didn't have the heart to sell them so they (along with a lot of other stuff ) ended up getting stored in a friend's garage for several years which was okay (not ideal) but mostly dry and safe.
That is until it got a leak in there that the family friend (who was very kind to store the stuff in the first place) did not notice, the leak was then followed by the whole roof coming down and the garage partially collapsing after a whole lot of snow- the stuff got stuck under there for weeks until it thawed enough to get it out at which point what could be saved got shuffled around all over the place until I had space to put it. Not really surprising so much stuff got badly damaged. A lot of my other stuff got ruined or near- ruined too. Got a load of littlest pet shop/puppy in my pocket all that sort of thing that are also in bad shape.
They were all in really lovely shape when they got put away in the first place, I was always one of those kids who treasured my belongings.
I was and still am heartbroken.

The good news is I have Steamer almost fully restored! He still has his bandanna (but not his hat) I've been working on getting his mane/tail all nice and he's looking very good.
Also got I think she's called 'little flitter?" a winged yellow pony with a hummingbird. She's got some mane/tail issues too but I got most of the mould off her (got a few stubborn spots that I am still working on) but she's looking pretty good too.

Gosh that's sad. :(

I'm happy you've got some progress fixing up a few of them though! I'd love to see an after of any you have completed. :)

Any that seem hopeless though, even if the bodies seem permanently stained there could still be hope. With the mold on them *in the hair etc. it would be easier and faster to pop heads, remove tails and washers (soaking the tails/metal bits would cause more rust) and soak just the ponies in a mild bleach solution until the grey mold (mostly) disappears, it'll get the mildew smell off the bodies and mold out of the hairoots. Just don't remove heads or soak any with moving parts like happy tails brush and grow or the babies with the ball jointed necks. (playtime brothers, peek a boo babies)
