This is cross-posted from the Arena; I've been MIA from the pony community for a while and in that time the Arena seems to have slowed down on all but the Corral forum, hoping for some help from this livelier forum!

Backstory: I made some jewellery based on MLP wings (two designs of adult G1, two designs of baby G1 and one G4 design) a few years ago, intending to sell them. Life happened... I mean HAPPENED... and everything I made got packed away until I had time to take more photos and write listings. Life didn't stop happening (probably a good thing, considering the alternative) and I completely forgot about my treasure trove of pony jewels.

Now: the man and I moved two months ago and while I was packing my long-neglected craft stuff I found the trove, and I a) couldn't believe that I'd forgotten making them, b) was like "wow, these are really nice!" and c) resolved to start selling as soon as we were settled in the new house.

We are now settled in the new house so... time to stop procrastinating!

OK, first some pictures, and then some blurb. Sorry for the terrible quality of some of these, since they were taken I've acquired a tabletop studio with professional lighting, the next pics will be splendid:

A couple of group shots for size comparison:

And an artsy shot of my boyfriend wearing a single baby wing, for scale:

So far I've made pendants, pins/brooches and dangly earrings, I plan on making minature versions to make stud earrings with. I'm also going to be offering phone charms, rings (eventually) and I'll be selling some with wire anchors for making customs with.

I can make these in a limited-ish number of transparent colours, a much wider range of opaque, pearlescent colours, glittery finishes, with 'inserts' (eg the butterfly and star wings above) or with more than one colour (eg the G1 wings above with pale blue tips on white). I can make them glossy or matte. I'll be taking custom orders.

I hope to have the shop up and running by 1st December, which brings me to the reason for this post; I can't think of a name for it!!!

Do I use 'SquarePeg' or not? Do I make it pony-specific? I'm planning on branching out into other retro/geek/cool stuff that cool people like us like areas, and also original designs so that probably wouldn't be a good idea. I love the word 'esoterica', meaning 'things understood by or meant for a select few', which I feel perfectly describes what the shop would offer (to anyone not very familiar with the design of MLP the jewellery would simply look like stylised wings).

My boyfriend likes 'Square Peg's Souk'. I like 'Emporium of Esoterica', but think it's too grand and doesn't really go with the jewellery.

Basically I'm stuck. Halp?

P.S. I do have a mailing list, please post if you'd like to sign up :ponylove:

Or how about Wingnut? It's still along the hardware sound of Square Peg...

Woah. Now those wings are sweet! Woo! I love them!

I think you should stick with Esoteric for a shop that's going to expand to other geekery in the future. Perhaps go with something like Esoteric Essentials. Esoteric Errata sounds suitably geeky but "errata" probably isn't a good word to go for. Think up descriptive words and then look in the thesaurus to find alternatives that sound better.

So lovely wings <3
I think you should name your shop by what do you sell, what you will be selling in the future, think the whole picture. If you are gonna expand from wings to other stuff maybe wing relative names isn't the best choice. For example Pegs Jewelry (lame yes, but just trying to make a point ;D). That way people will know what you are selling and it is easier to customers to find you. Also something simple and not tooo long name would be the best. If you will sell internationally make sure the english name is easy and not too "out of ordinary. Like Esoteric Errata could sounds for foreign little bit odd.
You could think what kind of customers would by your stuff, make it as groups. If you can categorize your customers it is easier to marketing the product and figure the name ;).
These are my advises I hope these helps as least little bit ;).
Actual name suggestions I do not have. I have named all my pets names by cartoons characters so I'm no good at naming anything ;).

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone! Though everyone's said something different even that's validation for my bewilderment :winkpony:

Ladyofthenight I am loving the words 'esoteric' and 'esoterica', so I'm liking the suggestion to stick with it. Even if I don't I'm going to have to create a jewellery-making persona called Esoterica

h1m3 thanks for the well thought-out post, I agree that I need a name that's not too specific. My main business has a completely non-product-specific name and I'm very happy I went with it as I now make several different products under that name.

Tiki, ilikebothg1andg4ponies and autumn rose, thanks!

Dragonkiss 'wingnut' is my boyfriend's favourite nickname for a crazy person :p so that's kind of ruined the word for me!

Leave a Whisper I like the idea of using the word 'flight', it's wing specific but could just be general.

Hmmmm...

Square Peg's Esoterica?

That's as far as I got before my brain went blank again.

It's a good thing I have the rest of the month to make up my mind!

Please, keep the suggestions coming, and thanks for the ones I've had already!

Flights of Esoterica? Yea, I knew Wingnut might be a long shot, but it's such a fun word ;)

beautiful wings!!!!! great work- they are lovely!
