Hi all! I am new here. My 4-year-old loves MLP and I did too as a child. I so wish I kept all the originals for her:( she has started her collection but all the newer ones with the scary eyes and she also loves the show...which I think is a bit too sassy:(

BUT for her upcoming I bought her the Paradise Estate! I'm so excited and hope she loves it. It should be here in a few days! :):smilepony:

That's a huge first purchase! :surprisepony: Your kiddo is going to have so much fun with that.

If you're not fussy for the newest ponies I recommend these for kids. G3 ponies! Closer in size to our old ones so they'd fit the old paradise estate better.

I can't find a thrift shop without them, and some stores still have old stock. and for little kids they're new enough to conform to safety standards. :) a lot of our 80's toys pigments containing lead, or phthalates (that are now banned) that can be absorbed through skin. :(

Ooohhh! I love those ponies! I will have to start looking for them. The paradise estate came with I think three of the original ponies. I didn't think about lead...wonder if I shouldn't let her play with them? I would love to get some of the original or older DVDs for her to watch. She's addicted to the series on Netflix now but I think it's a little sassy/mean.

I got the estate for $90 shipped which I thought was a good price considering it had all the furniture too.

Wow! That's a great deal! Just for that playset shipping alone would be over $90 to me. And you should be able to find the DVD's, I don't know if amazon still sells the original series. :)

ebay is another good place to look for G3's, lot auctions tend to go for the best prices per pony. I've seen them go for under a dollar each before shipping in lots. :D As for the old girls, led paint was banned in 78' in the US.... but toys made since then have been found to have lead, recently it was some Mattel toys that made the news and caused recalls. Hasbro stuff hasn't been in the news for it. Mostly my concern is the phthalates that are in the older toys, they are added to plastics to make them softer and flexible and are a health issue. If you find that any of the old ponies have a sticky film on them it's those plasticizers leeching out. *shrugs* When I let little ones play with ponies, or give ponies to friend's children I have the newer ones set aside for that. So personally I err on the side of caution there. Many people still pass down their childhood toys to kids, I just didn't want you feeling badly that you already gave away your childhood ponies since there are plenty more out there that are safer anyway! :satisfied:

how do you figure the show is sassy or mean? can you give me any examples? and i don't think sass is a bad thing, all sass is is a bit of spunky assertive attitude and i think all girls need some sass.

I think the show is cute too ringlet, with my luck though if I had a 4yo she'd likely try and emulate Rainbow Dash- the pony who imo does have a habit of being sassy and also a little mean from time to time.

That's an awesome purchase for your daughter!

Ps: I can see instances where the show is sassy/mean. For example: The way RD treats Ditzy Doo, the Turtle before he becomes her pet, the way Gilda and Diamond Tiara are to people. Granted there is a lesson learned, but there are instances of sass. :satisfied:

Pony Fun!

Well, I must say ... playing with ponies with your daughter will be loads more fun than say having a Barbie fashion runway show - you could have a pony fashion runway show instead! I'm curious, who will have more fun though?

Which G1's have lead in them first time hearing about that, I wash them a lot without gloves should I be concerned?

Unless you're eating the plastic of the ponies, you're fine.

Lead is bad if you eat/breathe it, so with toys that contain lead, that would be sucking on it/eating it/chewing on it. Considering you're an adult, this shouldn't be a concern.

Little kids, though, don't know this, so that's why you shouldn't give them G1s to play with.

Washing them, cleaning them, and having them on display won't be dangerous to you. The chemicals you wash the ponies with would be more dangerous. You only have to worry about the chemicals in them if there's a fire and the burning pony fumes get into your airways.

oh the horror! I'll have nightmares about burning ponies now, lol! But congrats on the paradise estate, what a find for your daughter!
