Hi everypony,

Tell me, do you think a rehaired nirvana should fetch the same or a higher price than a non-rehair of the same pony?

C.

No where near the same price. Should be much cheaper, unless it's a one of a kind.

Yeah, rehairing generally devalues a pony. Many collectors prefer them bald and original, and some like to restore them on their own if they plan not to sell them.

Basically it makes them look nicer and that's it. :)

Oh this is sort of funny - because

Hi - I am sorry - no offence - I have 3 sunny Daze with mane and tail cuts that I was thinking, hmmm I wonder if I should bother rehairing - now I know it's not the same as an older pony, but I am so glad I read this - they are in bait condition and maybe someday I will redo them into OOAK's - one of a kinds - because now I know that that's all they can be!

Yes, re-hairing a Nirvana greatly decreases their value & the market of potential buyers. After being disappointed with several restored Nirvana purchases, I will only buy non-restored ponies now even if they are in poor condition.

BUmmer huh. Yup, for a collector.....as original as possible....no matter the flaw.

There's a local girl that wants approx $300 for her rehaired Ice Crystal. Firstly I think it's rediculous, especially since the ice-blue shade doesn't seem quite right and it's got REHAIRED writted below it's foot. I don't mind the rehair note, as my Tornado has REHAIRED below its foot also.
The other rehair she has it (i THINK) a grey cc pony... Lemondrop? (Not sure if that's correct, or if it even IS a Nirvana), she wants $400 for it! I saw a Lemondrop on ebay recently for just over $250.

Is it just me, or are these prices a little radical?

::snort:: Tell her I'll give her $50, IF Icey's body is mint. A rehair, especially in the wrong color, doesn't raise value. Period.

As for Lemondrop, if it's a variant from Italy or Macau (with Snuzzle's coloring and Lemondrop's symbol), then yes it could possibly reach those prices, but not if it's rehaired. She may not be going for those prices right now though anyway. I'm not 100% up on CP pony pricing.

I have a Greek Blossom who came tail-less and shall remain tail-less (she came in a lot; I didn't even know what I had until, while sorting outthe lot, noticing her "blossoms" looked different than the other Blossom in my herd, then upon closer inspection and posting pics and questions here---:penguinaspin::yippie:) I don't want anything changing Her Greekness :)

So, yeah. No New Hair--at least, not if you think it will fetch more $ for the pony when you go to sell her. And *certainly* not for three times what a non-mint but entirely original pony would fetch.

Edit: it's good that she marked on the pony that it's a rehair. That's the ethical thing to do when you alter the original state of a pony, although sadly it means a mark on her/him. I imagine there's a whole "discussion" about that practice, as well, but I'd rather know than think I had an unmodded original.

*bursts into laughter* No, it's not just you. For $300, you can get Ice Crystal with original hair in good condition, plus his brush. Someone should tell that person that if she wants to re-hair, she at least should go for the correct colour. Not that it justify the price she's asking for him, but at least she could get a little more money.
