Okay, so I was browsing through the Etsy shops looking for stuff for my dolls, and I thought "Hey! I wonder what neat MLP items are on here?" So I'm browsing through all the cute jewelry and whatnot ... and then I come across this ...

il_fullxfull.16319508.jpg

Description: this is a nice 1.5 my lil' pony, 1.5 ken leg creation.A nice fantasy.Pony boy now comes stationary in the zebra stpipped box! Nice display for your mantle or piano top!
Price? $15

....
I'm ... I don't know what to say. First of all ... wtf? And second of all ... $15?! Wow.

Question: Do you consider this art, or garbage?
I know that the definition of art is in the eye of the beholder, but no matter how I wrap my mind around this ... I just can't see the artsy side.

(I didn't link the page as I know we're not supposed to link live ebay auctions, and this is kind of similar)

I just can't see the artsy side.

Agreed.

I'm a graphic design / art student, and I personally think that this is not art. I believe that someone is just trying to make money out of rubbish.

But how strange! I wonder how on earth they came up with this idea! It's so... wierd.

Lol! Thanks for showing us Applejack. :)

Depressing. D: poor Ken-legged TeaLeaf. Why would you want to display something like that? I think it's lame.

As for whether this is art or not... I guess maybe it is art in a Surrealist way, and that perhaps there might have been some meaning to it or you can make meaning of it, like, I dunno, a comment againt consumerism or something. But to me, it's just rubbish and waste of a good pony and dude doll.

I've seen this before, and I thought the same this time around that I did last time.

I know what pony that is because my sister has her. She's Strawberry Sunset, the Dollar Store pony that's evaded me for so long (her three setmates weren't so difficult). I do not think that is art in the least. That is a sick mutilation of a perfectly fine pony that could have been some little girl's best friend or a collector's pony.

It is kind of funny in a sick sort of way, but I still don't think that's art. That's a man (or woman, but I don't think a normal woman would do that sort of thing) dismantling a nice pony and a Ken doll and trying to sell them for a few bucks. At most, he'll probably make the original price of the dolls back.

Now that you mention it, Tealeaf has the original Wysteria "shy" (?) pose. XD

I've not heard of a Strawberry Sunset pony o_O

G3 Ponies

There ya go. :) I don't believe she was ever sold in Australia, which may explain why she is unfamiliar to you. I'm American, so she was found at our Dollar Stores over here.

I'm pretty into art, and am pretty open minded about the definition, but I find that a pretty poor excuse for "art." :S I think that somebody was just trying to be witty... What scares me is if somebody would buy this. XD

Ummm.....ewwww!

It's like a train wreck really. It's so horrible, and yet you just can't look away!
I'm glad this picture has brought some good laughs to you!
I took a look at some of this other person's items for sale, and he pretty much has this theme of dismantling toys and reassembling them in odd forms. Some of them, I admit, I can see the artistic social commentary value. Others are just as equally wtf. Heh.
And yeah, as somebody else said, it really reminds me of that bully kid from Toy Story. Those sad, sad toys.

There are some really talented little souls on etsy, but obviously there must be something to balance this out,
No, I can't see the artsy side of this either.
I love etsy, I live there most of the time.

Maybe the person wanted a mermaid pony, and, ugh, this was as far as they got?[/quote]

yep that's what i was think to, sum puddy should cover that nicely, But $15 ahhh NO.

I actually feel sick. I will have nightmares about this.
It is just WRONG. :hide:
