G3 Plastic Elastic Not Fantastic

So, not sure where to post this question but just curious….
This is how my G3 loose ponies have been stored for…since their release.

These have been undisturbed and kept in a dry, dark, climate controlled area for 20 years. Never in a storage unit.
Can you guys tell me why the elastic straps on the pony wear and accessories (animal friends) are deteriorated and falling apart?

Age unfortunately. It’s kind of hard to avoid no matter what environment they’re kept in.
 
Yeah unfortunately I don’t think any amount of climate control or proper storage stops elastic from breaking down, it’s a shame but you might be able to stitch new elastic on to fix them

If I felt the need to replace them (my loose ones, haven’t touched the few I display in box) I use white string or wire. Most of the hats and bunny ears seem to stay on well enough without that at least.

Probably a good idea so it wouldn’t happen again :) and yeah I noticed that my Loligiggle’s ears at least stay on perfectly fine without the elastic

Ooo and if you’re being extra you could always try some cute thin ribbon and tie it in a bow. <3 just a 5 am thought after being woken to feed the cat. XD

:smile: that would be extra cute, then I’d wanna give them a matching tail ribbon like g1’s

I like your 5am thoughts - but, in all fairness, I love ribbons.

Actually, as far as my G3’s are concerned, I will be selling / trading them at the MD pony meet - I’ve decided to attend and be a vendor (healing a lot faster than I thought I would).
Only a couple of them are snapped as I was trying figure out what was happening, the rest will be sold with them in tact.
I will be selling boxed playsets, loose ponies, and a lot of MIB / MOC.

I hope there will be a lot of you guys there.

I spent some time collecting them all as they were released. I put so many miles on my Mustang during this time, I had to get all the exclusives and became obsessed with not missing any :lolpony:

At the end of the day though my heart really lies with G1’s….except my Port-o-Bella… I love her, :twohearts:
 
I have some ponies where the elastic is still okay if their outfits have never been moved, but I know if I touch it will break.

It was just called Elastic-Plastic here. I only ever saw it on tv, great to hear it worked, even tho it reeks,

Yeah the ones in the original packaging seem to be OK though I know if I shake it to rigorously something bad might happen. And I finally got more G3s out of my parents house, and while I had some like my Easter ponies whose hats and ears are already coming off, I picked up some other ones that were still attached but definitely came off during the dusting process. I’m also unsure about what other damage it could possibly cause pony plastic the longer it sits there.

At least a lot of G3s are really easy to open and close back up again, so I should be OK if I ever want to remove the ones I kept in package. Like the Disney princesses, they came in those first G3 fold up and over packaging, so I could just lift up the tab and go in and remove the hat and fix it up.

Haha it was fun to play with but yeah it definitely smelled like something kids shouldn’t be allowed near
