I've only ever had to move house once, when I was 14, after my parents divorced and my mother could no longer afford the house. It was a traumatic experience, especially since 90% of the packing was done by the moving company. They came into my room (which I was deliberately packing myself to take stuff with me) after I'd fallen asleep crying on my bed, and they started packing there too. In fact they even stole some of my jewellery and left the empty container lying in one of the boxes. Then the people who'd bought the house also sent a cleaning service and gardeners in before our stuff was even packed and out yet. I think at least 75% of our belongings were taken to an auction house and sold off before we even knew what had gone there, a lot of fragile stuff got broken in transit, and the rest went into storage (which after a few years we could no longer afford, so they probably sold or dumped that stuff too). It was in all this drama and confusion that I also lost my childhood ponies.
The moral of this story is that, painful and exhausting as it is, it's better to do your own packing and moving.
