In 2007, our beloved satinslipper caught our attention when she found this quote from the Hasbro bible (original thread here).

Well, Hasbro . . . my dear, clueless Hasbro . . . I am sorry if I seem smug, but in light of the recent cartoon where ponies trot, gallop, eat carrots, whinney, hold rodeos, regard saddles as high fashion, and on occasion pull carts and carriages, I would just like to say . . .

YES. THEY. ARE. TOO. HORSES.

That is all. :super:

Sorry, I know it's not nice to gloat, but . . . AH HA! I TOLD YOU they were horses and I was right! Hasbro said if they were five year old girls the toyline would be a doozy, but the only doozy here is how RIGHT I AM.

They're not Carousel Horses? Diamond Dreams and her friends would beg to differ.

...Sorry that "bible" thing made me lol. So G3 ponies are "five year old girls"? Rainbow Dash G3, v1 anyone?

Ugh ugh ugh ugh yes. I remember being so danged furious with that when I first saw it and it STILL makes my blood boil! How absolutely condescending, absolute proof that Hasbro despite its millions and its successes is absolutely *clueless* as to what children actually want. It's like deciding that Transformers are NOT ROBOTS, they are little boys

I am SO glad for the new show. Whatever your ideas of the new fandom is, THIS is what Hasbro would have us collecting* if it weren't for Friendship is Magic.

*if they hadn't been such a huge flop - gee, wonder why.

Oh my God.

How hilariously dumb would that be?

"Optimal Solutions" - In this episode, Optimus tries to make the baseball team!

"How Wide, Ironhide?" - Ironhide learns the value of good nutrition. Don't just eat junk food like computer chips and lugnuts, Ironhide! It's also important to drink lots of oil and eat your corrugated iron!

"And Baby Makes Three" - Ratchet is jealous when his parents build him a new brother out of a do-it-yourself kit.

Silly g3's. I had a couple of cartoons that a couple of the pegs came with. put them on when a friends daughter was over. I had to turn it off it was so sugary-sweet and terrible. The kid didn't want any part of those cartoons either and told me as much. "um. you LIKE these?" :uhoh:

That seemed to be the mentality before barbie came on the scene. Toymakers at the time were insistent that little girls wanted baby dolls, and wouldn't want to play with a grown up doll and pretend to have jobs. How wrong they were. The fantasy was my favorite part of the toy. There were a group of us that had lots of fun with Ponies. Pegs, unicorns and earths with super powers and giving them villains to fight. We definitely didn't see them as "little girls"
