Greetings! Introduction here. I've been pulling my (and my sister's, but I'm the honorary curator :3 ) old G1s out a few at a time and attempting to take inventory of exactly which ponies I have before going bonkers trying to acquire more (note "trying"). I'm of the understanding that some of the members of my herd are rare/HTF, but I'm overall pretty ignorant of my collection's status (I mean, it's really incomplete, so it's clearly nowhere good enough!), so I figured I'd share my listing-in-progress. The house is a nasty clutter right now, so there's no real good way to display anyone at the moment; if I do any serious photo shoots, it will have to be... later.

I've never been a "serious" collector. I mean, I enjoy getting a pony that I don't already have, but I'm not exceedingly picky about their shape. Mint or near-mint are wasted on me, I think; display condition all the way to "bait for some, but not beyond all hope for others" is just fine. Damage lends personality to a toy, IMO -- gives it a history and an identity. I still love my old MLPs, regardless of how beat up they are.

I fondly remember picking up lots of additional ponies at rummage sales and a local flea market back in the day (how I got my Mimic, in fact). I do wonder if, in the time that's passed since then (early 90s?), it would be worth the time and energy attempting to hunt down a dwindling number of G1s this way, or if it's a job best left to devoted bargain hunters. Finding a gigantic pile of G1s in real life on the cheap sounds tantalizing and amazing, but how likely is that to actually happen? Well, at the very least, I do want to take a special trip to one of NJ's big flea markets (which is some 2 hours away from here), just because it's been so long since I've been to one and I don't get out enough.

Wow what a great collection!!! I agree with you on pony condition! I'd live to see pics at some point!

Wow thats a lot of cool ponies :winkpony:

bigmlpfan xx

OOOOOHHHHH I SEE MIMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCC!!!!!! Lucky you for aaaaalllll the ponies!

EDIT: ERMAGERD YOU HAVE RAPUNZEEEEEELLLLLL!!!!! Gawd you extremely lucky

The nephews had been put to bed and I noticed the dining room table was mostly clear, so I dragged the ponies down for some (bad) photos. Note in advance that almost everyone is still waiting to be groomed, and quite a few haven't had their bodies cleaned in over twenty years.

I didn't see any forum rules about image use, so... image-heavy post ahoy? "Childhood pony" refers to one that my sister or I received as children, versus a later rummage sale or flea market find (or one purchased as a preteen).

All "collector's pose" ponies, all concave-hoofed. Childhood ponies: August Poppy is mine, June Rose and Blossom are my sister's.

YJvMVGq.jpg

Year 2 & 3 earth ponies. Childhood ponies: CJ is mine; Applejack, Sundance, and Ember are my sister's. I think I was clearly puzzled by the symbol-less pink Ember when I picked her up secondhand, and decided to call her "Amber" (how original) and markered in a moon on one side and a star on the other. Sundance's hair was still drying at the time of the photo shoot.

mtr5wmA.jpg

Year 2 & 3 unicorns. Baby Glory, Majesty, Spike, and Powder are mine; Moondancer is my sister's. Powder is pretty baity, and I'm not sure how much she can be restored; her horn fell off and is held in place by a rubbery glue, her pose is deformed, etc. Baby Glory is quite smoozed, as well, and my initial attempt to get the dirt out didn't work so well. (Didn't use enough OxyClean, maybe.) Moondancer's moons are completely gone, but it's easy to see where they were by reflecting light off the area, so that simplifies possible restoration.

Ojt4pIc.jpg

Year 2 & 3 pegasi, including those from the Rainbow Pony line. Medley is my sister's (and the head is off-center despite still being glued in place), and Sprinkles is mine. (Could've sworn I had her playset at one point, but no idea what happened to it.) Flutterbye, who I got in the mail yesterday and smells lovely, feels a little out of place amidst such filthy and ungroomed ponies. This Skydancer, whom I got second hand and tailless, got the tail from my childhood Skydancer, due to being in better condition as far as I could tell.

(Forgot to shrink this one...)

Rest of the Rainbow Ponies that I have. Windy and I think Parasol are childhood ponies. Pinwheel I just got with Flutterbye. (Not sure why this pic ended up smaller than others...) Cloudburst still looks quite good despite the extensive haircut, with a very full symbol, though I accidentally took some of the glitter off trying to clean some goo that was on it...

hTg8r7c.jpg

Bunch of duplicates, some rather baity. Believe it or not, the Blossom looked worse at one point. The Sprinkles has a weird head-body mismatch. Glory and Firefly are mine from childhood, but overall they seem in worse condition than the duplicates I got later. Poor Posey is my sister's and it looks like a bunch of her hair fell out; I plan to use her for my first re-hair experiment.

1Uwgzpu.jpg

Year 4 & 5 Twinkle Eyes. I don't think I received a single TE new, so these were all second-hand finds. I feel pretty lucky to have a Mimic; I think she was in a bin at a flea market with a bunch of others. Pretty good condition, and cleaned up nicely with Magic Eraser. Quackers' tail is one of my first attempts to put life back into plastic hair that didn't feel completely dead on arrival. (I've never had any interest in hairstyling, so I'm needing to learn from the ground up.)

hkQpTRN.jpg

Oh boy! So Softs, my favorite! (...not really.) These ladies all need cleaning, though some may be beyond all help and be the subject of deflocking experiments. Gusty is my childhood toy and looks like she's been through some serious $#**; Ribbon is my sister's, and still looks quite stately aside from lots of rub-off and her inability to stand properly.

VpgIm80.jpg

So Soft pegasi. Aside from Whistler, they seem to just need a little spot cleaning.

1gnFiqB.jpg

Flutter Ponies! I found a single intact wing stray among the accessories, so I stuck it into the yellow and green one whose name I keep forgetting. Cloud Puff is a new acquisition, and I knew she had regrind, but, wow, it didn't look quite so bad in the seller's picture! Her hair is very silky, so I can't be too angry; maybe I'll try painting her so that her body color looks like it's SUPPOSED to gradate. I'm not sure what happened to poor Morning Glory; the staining on her face makes it look like she was gagged with tape for a really long time.

v7SY3Ps.jpg

Pony friends! (Weird that this one focused funny.) I love these guys and I'd love to have the remaining four -- why must they be so expensive?! Makes me feel worse knowing that my cousins had Cutesaurus and Edgar, and I don't know what happened to either of their collections.

jENvRfc.jpg

Freaky-deaky Beddy Bye Eyes plus Molly (who has the decayed remains of a rubber band in her hair). Naturally, none of the unicorns can really stand too well. I think both Gusty and Icing were leaching plasticizer when I first dug them out of the attic. Gross!

btrldIv.jpg

Two Satin 'n Laces (the NSS is the one I actually got in the mail, and has a collapsed flank that I'm not sure how to fix without removing her head) plus Tux 'n Tails (his bowtie has seen better days). I might have some of SnL's outfit, but not sure how complete.

HYQxXLz.jpg

Big Brothers! I wish I had all of them; there really were not enough male MLPs. Salty I picked up second-hand (and he seems to have cancer; shame since he's not in bad shape otherwise), and the rest my sister and I got new. I attempted matching bandanas based solely on what looked right, and Chief clearly doesn't, so I'm suspecting that his bandana is MIA and my duplicate Wigwam actually came with a neckerchief. I can't remember how Wiggy's headdress is supposed to fit, but it sure didn't feel secure on his head.

aPl7uIe.jpg

Twice As Fancies. Scoops and Sundance need their poses reset, as evidenced by the long cylindrical objects. Night Glider is the second-wave TAF I ended up with back in the day (can't remember if I picked her, or if she was picked out for me), so I was surprised to learn that she's a hot item now. I really want to add Merriweather to my herd; I think one of my cousins had her, and her design is delightful.

More to come!

I just fainted. What an absolutely beautiful find!!!!! I am seriously mourning my original collection of ponies now :( my father has early-onset Alzheimer's and disposed of my entire collection in the early '90's :(

Holy Crow but that is one heckuva awesome collection you have there! Man. You have tonnes of great Pnoies! How wonderful it must have felt to find them safe and secure up in the attic.

Bet they were glad to see you!

WOW! What an amazing find! :allecto:

Thanks for the kind words, all! I was taking photos roughly by order of release, so there are many more to come. Mayhaps I'll get a few more photos taken tonight. Not exactly the best of times, but there's practically nowhere I can do a shoot during the day right now without risk of the nephews finding out. (Four-year-olds can be a bit overbearing if they see lots of cool stuff and they don't immediately get to touch it and have me tell them everything I know about said stuff. "I TOLD YOU, I DON'T REMEMBER THAT PONY'S NAME!" :cry2: )

I would definitely love to see more pics. And I have a 3-year old - pretty sure she's part Tasmanian Devil. I feel your pain! :D

oh wow!!
My jaw has literally dropped open at the sight
of your Big Brothers complete with their bandanas and hats!!
Well done on keeping all them over the years!!

When I pulled my childhood collection from the attic few years ago,
think I had about thirty ponies total.. including Mimic, SS Twist, MO Hollywood Flutter Pony,
and TAF Yum Yum. Some other HTF ponies as well~

Wonderful Collection so far, Hun!
Big Congrats!!

It does look like either Barnacle or Chief's bandanna got lost, since I only found a single yellow one (so far, anyway), but thank you! :satisfied:

Ooo, nice. Did you ever make a thread?

Alrighty! I *finally* set up in the dining room again for another amateurish flash photography picture shoot. I unfortunately did not make it to the year Punzie was released, but I will definitely get her next time.

oZGh8pv.jpg

^ : 4/6 First Tooth Babies, 3/12 sets of Newborn Twins, and two "twinless" twins. (Resale practices seem to separate the twins quite effortlessly, don't they? What is this, **** Germany?) I know I've had Baby Lickety-Split (why her again? couldn't a different pony have been given a baby this time, Hasbro?) and the little aqua-colored twins (Jangles and Tangles?) for a long time. Not sure where the others came from.

Nm3a2f8.jpg

^ Princess Ponies! My nephew Alex really likes these ones, for some reason. I wish I'd told him that they were all queens; certainly they've been princesses for long enough! Primrose and Sparkle are recent additions. I forgot to ask Sparkle's sellers certain questions and found out the hard way that she'd been infused with secondhand smoke. Poor girl is living in a window for the moment.

FxAEnSq.jpg

^ More new herd members! Everyone except Sunbeam I got in a trade with Uftaki (who is super-awesome). She made everyone look so nice I'm having second thoughts about letting the boys play with them, even though that was the whole intent behind getting sub-minty ponies.

71rvR4Q.jpg

^ All my Brush 'n Grows. Bouquet is in the middle of a sunfading experiment (she has some nasty spots plus nail polish dye on her), hence the get-up. She and Brilliant Bloom are childhood ponies, the green one (Braided Beauty?) is a later second-hand find, and Pretty Vision is from uftaki. A fixer-upper Curly Locks should be on her way.

2JnNlx3.jpg

^ Happy Tails and Magic Message. Tabby and Magic Hat are mine from childhood, Floater is my sister's, Squeezer is from ebay, and Tossles is from uftaki. Magic Hat and Floater's symbols are broken (big surprise!), and Floater's is scratched on one side, which is a shame since she looks very nice otherwise. Tabby's tail mechanism seems broken -- is there anything that can be done?

Gxko1Oh.jpg

^ Peek-a-boo Babies. Noddins got some discoloration in her tail from a rubber band; hoping it'll come out when I clean her.

J4FH0j6.jpg

^ Windy Wings. (Took three photos, all came out bad.) Highflier (I think that's the purple one?) is from childhood; her wings are on the verge of breaking and she very obviously needs to go to the hairdresser. Buzzer (from uftaki) apparently got sick of maintaining the long hair and went for a short boyish look.

LVdhghX.jpg

^ Various babies from... whatever year this is. I've seen little bandannas floating around, but was too tired/lazy to dig them out and match them up. For a post-cleaning reshoot, surely.

9bPPDVj.jpg

^ Berry Sundae ponies. Cocoberry is new, a fixer-upper from Etsy. Peppermint Crunch looks surprisingly good after her cleaning and mostly just needs paint touch-up on her symbol. Cherry Treats... poor girl, how can we make that tan go away?

2a1NLRd.jpg

^ Blue mail-order babies, plus Pillow Talk, since she wasn't around for the TAF photo shoot and had nowhere else to go. (My BIL thinks her name is a hoot, and I don't blame him!) Blue Ribbon has quite the cowlick going there and needs to be taken apart to tame that rust. Clipper looks surprisingly good. Lucky (I have two of them for some reason; pictured is the one without mold/cancer spots) looks alarmingly yellowish in person. Could a hydrogen peroxide bath help that?

64LBap8.jpg

Sparkle Ponies! There's a MO Twinkler (or whatever the pegasus is called) and Sky Rocket, and everyone else is store version. I'm not sure the pegasus is supposed to look so yellow...

Ff1b9PB.jpg

Candy Cane ponies. The four that still have curls I bought in the store ages ago; they were probably clearance, otherwise I wouldn't have so many. I'm not sure if there's any salvaging those frizzy curls or if I'd have to start over from scratch. Molasses arrived with Princess Sparkles and has the same smoke smell problem, and so is also currently living in the window.

FCz0Ca9.jpg

Dance n Prance plus Merry Go Round. DJ and Twirler have some accessories still, but we'll do dress-up later. None of the MGRs seem to stand anymore, and of course F.B. doesn't have pink hair. I'm of the understanding that the two with the Quackers pose are much sought after?

x7sDhQZ.jpg

Loving Family ponies. If these were made today, I'd hope to see one traditional family, one with two mommies, and one with two daddies. Bright Bouquets are mine and Sweet Celebrations are my sister's. (As if by conspiracy, our cousin got the Apple Delights.) I now have a Mommy A.D. of my own, but she feels a bit out of place and so was hesitant to participate. She lost contact with Daddy and Baby(ies) while fleeing Poland and hasn't seen them since; we're beginning to fear the worst.

fP2Jopc.jpg

Lonely Mainsail (Shoreline is supposedly on the way, though), plus Sweetheart Sisters and those ridiculous Perfume Puffs.

ENArlR7.jpg

Mail orders! Dabble is missing some hair plugs and her aqua is faded, and Scribble probably has cancer, but otherwise everyone seems in good shape. Firefly's head came cocked to the side like that.

0QenJEk.jpg

Miscellany: a couple of singletons and various rather incomplete sets. Pretty Belle is from uftaki; the short hair isn't ideal, of course, but she made it look rather stately. Not sure what's to be done about Streaky's hair; the curls are coming loose like nobody's business. Bride and Bright Night anxiously await their hair appointment.

That's all for now!

That's a great share! Thank you. I'm sure that took a lot of time. Nice to see so many male ponies in there! I miss my chief I used to have. Also saw some cool animal friends I haven't seen before.

Fixed the last photo in my previous post.

Marble Dragon
: Thanks, happy to share! I still have the tail end of my old collection to photograph, but I've been distracted by all my new arrivals... Maybe I'll pile them all onto the dining room table soon and get a some quick group photos in.

The male ponies are nice to have; breaks up the monotony a bit. ;) I don't quite understand why Hasbro didn't make more of them. They're kind of crucial for the domestic scenarios that little kids are inclined to play out with dolls. One of my nephews is constantly asking me if x baby pony has a "daddy" (since he's accustomed to the mommy and baby pairs, not to mention there are so many mare ponies one can find a suitably colored "mommy" for nearly any solo baby), and forced to make do with the few stallions there are.

I could just look at your collection all day. It's just so beautiful. You must feel so good just being able to get them out of storage and handle them again! It would be like seeing old friends, long separated.

Wonderful collection, Love the SHS PromQueen with her accessories, so many lovely ponies there :)
