Pony Horror Stories!

That always surpises me when sellers don't individually wrap ponies. I always bubble wrap mine &then wrap in tissue. I'm always worried them banging around in the box would cause paint chips. At least the cut wasn't noticeable, but I feel you, when you know it's still frustrating !

The worst experience I had was a seller selling me a flutterpony with a huge chunk missing out of her foot, which was not pictured, sucks too because I was told on here because it was a "good deal" it was ok+not a scam tbh it hurt because I just wanted to warn people because if she didn't describe that flaw, why wouldn't she describe others and she had other ponies listed for way more and I just didn't want to have anyone here get ripped off. Really sucked because no matter what the price not describing flaws is wrong. & Deceptive photography as a seller is wrong.

Oh and one time I opened a package and the seller switched out a pony luckily it was a G3 sweetie Belle McDonald's pony for a sweetie Belle G4 which was fine but still& there was literal bugs in G4 raritys hair! Ewwy

Worse experience as a kid was at my 3rd grade birthday party(I'm 26yo so this was in early 2000s) , I had a sleepover party and on my desk I had all my l ponies displayed, honestly had played much with them but still did,and I got bullied the whole time to the point I was crying. I ran downstairs and remember putting in the VHS tape the movie with Star Catcher, and it comforted me&made me love MLP even more. My mother hated the girl who started the bullying for years& the girl ended up bullying me again in 8th grade. Terrible person . Screw them though,I'm happy with my toys!
I remember that pony. I put the seller on my poo list. I understand that it’s hard to take great photos and if they’re not a collector, some flaws don’t exist to them since they don’t know what to look for. It was definitely a difficult situation. :xmashug:Which flutter was it? Hmmm…
I’m also sorry to hear that people were mean. What’s wrong with a 3rd grader liking ponies? I got a real pony for my ninth birthday. That was fourth grade, and I have always been a bit obsessed. Anyone who knew me then could tell you, purple, ponies, puppies, and ballet. That’s me in for words. I still get made fun of. My daughter even told me that ‘any other kid would be embarrassed to have me as a mom’ ouch. At least we always have our ponies.

@Lilykin I agree, unlisted smoke smell is the worst. I now ask before I buy if they don’t have it listed as ’no odors’ and ‘smoke free, cat free home’.

i feel like, if your home isn't smoke free, you shouldn't exactly be selling things in the first place. just my opinion since that smell has a tendency to cling to stuff... thankfully i've never had a smokey pony/piece of merch in all my months buying

i don't have any pony 'horror' stories but i do remember when i got my january joy pony in the mail, i immediately went to go and clean her body since she had a few marks. well, i'm not sure what happened but i used acetone and white paint(?) started to come off of her! i don't know if someone had painted over her body in that one spot or if it was the pony itself. it left an odd texture but didn't damage her or anything. the seller didn't have much detail in their description.

Sad thing is the girl who started it is still a nasty person from what FB shows, very look at me! I'm better! Which is nuts because she is bankrupt morally ,for other reasons I rather not get into . But she was a bully my mom haaaated her lol! Never saw why until adulthood.

& Sadly no I didn't get my money back. It was only lil over 5$ total but that isn't the point I wouldn't have bought it& I'm under the poverty line so it was a big deal to me. The seller took a photo of the bottom of the foot and like I've never bought a flutterpony so I didn't recognize the shape as being wrong, but others on here(won't drag names into it) agreed it was a deceptive photo. Especially since it was like 180-280p quality. Just made me mad because it was such a deceptive photo. All she had to do was take a picture of it from the side and show the foot ....sigh. I can't imagine doing something like that. I even disclose minor paint chips and small small flaws ,even factory flaws ,wish every seller could be the same. Turned me off eBay for awhile. I don't understand ripping someone off.

Nothing is worse either when I seller tells you "it's just ponies" or since I cross collect "it's just dolls"
Well the money I sent you is just real money! Lol
I have other collections, too. It irks me when you don’t get what you are expecting. It’s made me back away from so many sellers.
I’m belo poverty level, too, so I feel you. $5 can feed us quite a bit.
So glad we both don't let us get us down!

Gosh kids are so mean. Why do kids bully each other for playing with toys!?! Kids are supposed to. Is this newer thing? I'm born in 1995& 26 now and curious if this is newer phenomenon. I mean the age group these are designed for is when I was bullied idgi

Aw crap I was trying to merge my posts and did it wrong. uGH so sorry admin how do I fix? I pressed edit and then post. Am I supposed to press edit and then save? Ugh I'm so sorry I know you guys posted about this recently :(
I’ve been here a while and still trying to figure it all out. I didn’t get bullied by kids when I was young because I was homeschooled and taking ballet classes with much older kids or adults. My family did though. They called it ‘teasing’, but it was over the line. My daughter is constantly bullied for being herself. She doesn’t fit into any of the groups at school. Since kindergarten. This year they’ve gotten physical. It’s bad.

Yes! Aside from the smell clinging, you actually lose a large part of your sense of smell when you smoke regularly, so you shouldn’t be selling anything without a disclaimer right up front ‘has been exposed to smoke’, or something. I got one pony box so bad that my eyes were watering and we just stuck the whole thing out in the garage for a month or so. It was especially a bummer because it had been for a swap.

Oh the trials we go through all for the love of ponies!

This is SO true. I smoke weed(is that ok to mention? Hope so if not sorry it is legal in my state) and have a cat and ANYTHING I sell gets shipped/brought to my boyfriend's house first and never comes into my home, because he is cat free and smoke free. My choice to f up my stuff is my choice, and I can't imagine selling something from my house collection if that makes sense lol. I do store things in a smoke and cat free room in my house but still don't want to risk it .

Lol! You are the person who agreed with me haha I just didn't wanna out you, your message then made me feel so much better felt like I was crazy. You rock Tak!

& I didn't know you where into ballet! Did you dance as a kiddo?& My favorite color is purple too!!

Edit: nevermind, just saw your post! That's so cool that you dance ballet. That is a hard discipline. If you like who done it mysteries, you should watch pretty little things, on Netflix it's set at a elite ballet school.

Oh and unsure what flutter pony she is she is green with yellow hair and I think lavender or something like that as cutie mark. One time when I have the money for apoxy sculpt I'll fix her up

this reminds me (and it's a bit off topic oops) but during my savers trip weeks ago i found this book within the childrens picture books, and it reminded me of you, lol

I was in ballet from age 2 until an injury when I was 17 ended my apprenticeship right as it started. The injury is still a major pain (in many ways). So, yes, I danced a whole lot. Since I was homeschooled I took class with middle aged women at 10am and usually didn’t get out of my last class until 7pm. I miss it. At least I got to keep the rest!

I have absolutely no idea. I was born just a few years or so after you (1999, 23 now) so I’m not too sure if it’s newer or not but kids seem to act like they were waaay older

These nasty kids didn’t kill our love for ponies and we’ll happily collect more!

Oh gosh, if we're talking grimy pony horror stories, I have a ton of those haha. Probably the worst was my Barnacle, who was supposed to be just a bait-y boy with normal blue pony discoloration and a haircut. I figured I could easily give him a nice sun soak to brighten him up and rehair him. Turns out the seller neglected to mention they were lying about their 'smoke free home and items', because he positively reeked when he got here, and the discoloration was not in fact normal discoloration from age, but yellowing from smoke exposure.

He's since been through a cat litter soak, two sun soaks and multiple baths and he no longer smells like an ashtray. Looks a lot prettier, too! All he needs now is his new mane and tail and he'll be looking quite handsome.

Then of course there is the constant horror of one of the booths at our local antique store taping paper tags with wet pen ink on them directly to the ponies' necks instead of using hang tags, resulting in otherwise beautiful ponies with what could have been preventable ink stains on their necks.

And my personal favorite: the horror of realizing that little seven year old me had the choice to get either a Furby or Munchy at an antique store when I was visiting my grandparents one season. Guess which one I chose

Saving the best for last though, I have another buying horror story that was a bit of an honest mix-up, but the panic at the time was real. During lockdown in 2020, I had bought a lovely Salty from someone on Mercari. He shipped and I was eagerly awaiting his arrival. The box finally came and I excitedly opened it up to find...an entire lot of different ponies that I hadn't ordered. I was a little befuddled, but I quickly contacted the seller and it turns out that they were shipping out two boxes (my Salty and another person's lot) and accidentally switched the shipping labels. The seller was an absolute sweetheart about everything and apologized profusely, and thankfully, the other person who got my Salty immediately agreed to ship him back. So I shipped the pony lot back to the seller, and once he arrived back to them, they shipped me my Salty!

But the saga of Salty, lost at sea, doesn't end there. Salty was finally on his way to me, but the tracking stalled on the day he was supposed to be out for delivery, and then got put back in transit. I know mistakes with tracking happen sometimes, so I didn't think much of it. As I was driving into town that day, however, I saw our mail delivery person's truck on a tow truck, heading to a repair shop. Apparently they'd broken down while out delivering packages, and Salty was on the vehicle when it broke down, so he had to be transferred to another delivery truck and was delayed. He arrived safe and sound the next day!

All's well that ends well and everyone involved was extremely nice about everything, but boy, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious for the fate of my poor Salty during the whole ordeal.

that last story reminds me of when i had bought a G3 Pumpkin Tart for halloween a couple months back, and had been eagerly awaiting her and watching tracking only to realize she had been delivered to the entirely wrong address- i'm in MN and she was delivered all the way to the east coast! i still have no idea what could've happened there (i think the seller said something about someone trying to pose as me & messaging them- which gave me a spook (seasonally appropriate?). i have no other information on how they could've done this) but the seller happily refunded me my money. i ordered an Abra-ca-dabra from them a while later and she arrived to me safely, so there's that.

I had a cat who LOVED G3 ponies. I had to put them behind glass or out of reach or she would chew them. Like, really chew them.
Aw I had a cat who did that too, she’d mostly only chew on their hair when she got ahold of one. Except one time I found her munching away on my twinkle twirl’s ear 8O
I was upset at the time but she’s since passed away and every time I see that ear it makes me think of my kitty so I don’t mind so much
(And she didn’t chew on her that bad, just left a few marks)

I remembered another! Its not the worst horror story but I remember maybe 10 or so years ago my mom and I decided to go to a large flea market we havent been to in a while. Its a long drive but we figured it was fun. We went hoping to find ponies or something decent, went through the entire thing, we were probably there 3 or 4 hours until the end we got to a booth selling toys and i spotted 3 or 4 g3 ponies.

The problem was, when we walked over there were kids walking away crying because the prices were too expensive to buy. I was too shy, anxiety lol so I asked my mom to see how much they were while I hid around a pile of toys. He asked a rediculous price and my mom came back and i went wHAAAT go ask if hed lower it. So she went and he said no because " Theyre /reallyyyyyyy/ old." during this whole time he was turning away more kids and making parents sneer at his prices. I legit went HEY. THESE ONLY CAME OUT 5 YEARS AGO but he didnt hear me. He was such a jerk i felt horrible leaving the ponies with him.

I kept thinking these poor ponies will never know love, theyre just stuck here with this jerk. We walked away and I felt horrible, I started to tear up so i walked back by myself and grabbed half of them and he legit had the NERVE to tell me an even higher price because he hadnt realized I was there earlier when he said the previous one. At that point my pony protect instinct had kicked in so I called him out on it and told him he just told my mother another price. He looked caught and reluctantly took my money.

Then fast forward to me crying in my car because I hadnt grabbed all the ponies LOL i ran back again and bought the rest. :DD

To make things worse the layout of the parking lot was so awful we were stuck in line to just get out of it for an HOUR! In the middle of summer no less, we roasted!

i have a small sparkleworks mcdonalds toy that had the same thing happen to one of her ears, except it was completely chewed off, lol

I will never understand people who immediately assume "old=valuable" anyways (of course all ponies are valuable! Just not always monetarily). I'm sure we've all seen crazily overpriced G1s at antique shops. These were popular toys, there are a ton of some of them, it's the exceptions that go for hundreds.

That's not even mentioning he was trying to do that with G3s! This was what, like two or three years into G4?

Yea, some people who dont actually collect ponies or know anything about them will sell them as expensive collectables without research. I look very young and am very short, im 29 and always mistaken for a teenager. I cant count the amount of times on my fingers that ive had sellers treat me like a child and overprice things thinking I wouldn't know any better. Maybe its just my area and people are jerks here but its rediculous.:rolleyespony: Even if I had been a teenager you still dont take advantage of a kids lack of knowledge for money.

I think it was a little bit more than 10 years ago, so I think g4 wasnt even out yet. I could be mixing up the dates but I dont remember owning any g4 ponies at that time, and I had bought my first g4 Cherry Pie in 2011, when g4 had released the previous October in 2010. Either way:DD It was definitely roughly around then. I dont think he even cared how new or old they actually were he was making excuses. He had brand new toys overpriced for hundreds of bucks. Rude people!:hmph:

This didn't escalate out of control or anything, but it was a very unpleasant surprise.
So, I finally managed to find a G2 pony (Light Heart) at my local flea market and I was overjoyed. If it matters, she's the canopy bed version with articulation. She's missing her entire tail and an eye crystal, which is pretty bad but I figured I could just make her a new tail (easier said than done because she's also missing the bead thingy that went around the tail and I'm not sure how important that is) and replace the eye crystal.
So, I'm giving her a quick wash when I notice that there's some smudges of paint on her body that were being stubborn, so I decide to just use a little acetone. It was going fine, and then I noticed a place on her head that had some paint, too. "Well, I might as well clean this while I'm at it because acetone is fine to use on ponies," I thought to myself LIKE A FOOL.
Turns out, the material her head is made of is NOT the same type of plastic I was expecting. She immediately got a little scuff on her neck from the acetone damaging the plastic.

I have another horror story about acetone that isn't about ponies, but it just as easily could have been about them so I'm gonna tell it anyway. I was cleaning up a Barbie that had nail polish spilled on her a long time ago and decided to use some nail polish remover. So, I decided it would be easier to pour a bit of nail polish remover in one of these little cups we had in the bathroom, sorta like Dixie cups. I bring my little cup of 98% acetone and a couple of q-tips into my room, set them down on a plastic storage container, and get to work. I finish using the first half of my q-tip and go to dunk the other side in. Then I turn around and see it: the puddle of acetone eating my pencil sharpener and trying to eat the container it was on top of. The cup had turned almost completely into mush aside from a little bit below the rim. The bottom was completely gone. I knew acetone could damage some plastics, but I didn't know how fast it worked and didn't consider that the plastic cup might be the type of plastic it can completely destroy.

My last horror story is about my G1 Moondancer. I found her in fairly good condition. Her hair needed to be softened and she had a bit of dirt in her plastic, but that was all. Or so I thought. I opened her up so that she could soak in an Oxyclean bath for a little while so I could get the dirt off of her and when I opened her up, I noticed that the plastic on her neck was a little grayish. I looked inside and I'm not kidding when I say that the inside of her feet were almost pitch black with mildew! Plus she had icky mold spots (possibly pony cancer) inside, too! Yeah, I immediately dunked her back in the boiling water I'd used to loosen the glue so it would kill off everything in her and then added Oxyclean to the mix. Oh, and to top it all off, she had a rusty washer on her tail that was threatening to turn into a case of tail rust, but I nipped that in the bud.

The moral of these stories: be careful with acetone and don't judge a book by its cover because sometimes the inside can be home to a disgusting mildew colony.

just how short are you? curious, because i'm 21 & 4'8 :p so i relate too much. been asked if i wanted a kids menu well into my mid-teens. never had someone do to me what happened to you though... i'd be so offended.

I was always taller and more developed than my sister that is more than 3 years older than me, so I had the opposite problem. I haven’t been carded since I was actually 21. I was always mistaken as the older sister. However, it worked out well for her, because now she’s still looking young and beautiful while I’m definitely looking old! :sus:

Lol once I was at the dmv to get my id renewed, I filled out the paperwork, waited till my turn, go up to the counter and the lady took one look at me said “the permit line is over there” and looked back down. When I showed her my form she apologized and said I looked like all the 15 year olds coming for their permits o_O I was 23 lol. Another time a guy refused to sell me a video game rated m because he didn’t believe I was actually 19 even though I showed him my id. But hey, I also got into the fair half price (the kids price) so I guess it’s ok
