Pony Price Hikes

G3 ponies were much larger than the G4. G4 ponies are a little smaller than baby ponies in former generations AND they cost more. Maybe if people continue to gripe (and not buy) about the rising costs and the smaller ponies, Hasbro will listen and make a change. It's also a little irritating that they re-release ponies with different accessories. I would never buy a pony twice because of a different accessory.

i buy the g4s for my baby since they arent my fave but i do like the new dvds just wish there was more dvds and good thing i had a lil girl so i dont look to crazy flipping out happy over a new pony or a pony find lol just wish i had all my g3s and stuff that went with them that i lost moving but it be ok ill get them again one day and i do kinda like the excitement of openning a blind bag and mcds ponies always make me super happy

I will find out what the prices are at my location in the fall when the new G4 releases are in. Hopefully.

That 5 and 10 where I got my G3 Scootaloo has G4 singles for $4.99! :D I didn't have enough money on me when I went to browse, but I'm definitely going back later.

5 and 10? Is that a store? Lucky! Good idea to go back and get them. Let us know what you end up bringing home :D

There is an across the board (all properties, not just MLP) price increase coming out of Hasbro, effective pretty much immediately, supposedly to cover the rising shipping costs they have been incurring. In most cases with action figures or similar small products like ponies it's a $1 price hike. Curiously, their trading info shows some dips lately, with MLP in particular called out as not selling well. Personally, I blame that on the amount of repacked product vs new. Folks will buy stuff when they don't have it already, but not if it's the same stuff with new accessories.
Yeah, I've been noticing that too. The re-releases VS new stuff, I mean.

I like the Mane 6 as much as the next person, but I find it a bit irritating that whenever there's a new "set", we get like 3-4-or more Mane 6 ponies and 1-2-3-if-we're-lucky new ponies. And apparently, I'm not the only one. I mean, the blind bags have much more variety than the main line. I don't take that as a good sign. :/

Not that I've noticed any price hikes around here, mind, and I already have to pay around $8.60 for each G4, single or promo pack, anyway.

It used to be a family owned thing a really long time ago (like when my great grandparents moved to the area o_O), so it was basically the neighborhood store for pretty much anything non-food, but it got bought out recently by some chain, but it's still stayed pretty much the same. Which. means nobody touches the toy aisle, and I have nearly exclusive access to the MLPs. I went in there last week, examined a Feathermay, and put her down somewhere different. The next time I went (when I bought Scootaloo) she was still there. I hope I can get back there soon, because all the ones there I don't have, so it's like a jackpot waiting for me. :D

Being a mum to a miniponymad I like the smaller size as it requires less space to store and display! But the collector in me wants a little more bang for my buck. I guess the smaller size fools the hubby too... he sees a big toy (just bought plush baby Spike yesterday) and actually notices it, but a new army of 'normal' little ones and his eyes are already glazed over (which = clueless that they weren't there already!). And also my miniponymad perfers the smaller 'normal' sized ones, while she thinks the larger ones (like Princes Celestia etc) are lovely, she much prefers to play with the smaller ones. And she would rather brush the shorter G4 hair than the longer G3 hair.

The prices over here in Australia have remained steady, but the mid year toy sales were just on and I managed to pick up a few bargains - singles for $4 whereas they are usually $9 (hence bags bursting with ponies and a frenzy of ripping open the packages when we got home!). But we get slugged for the blind bags at $5 a pop, and they are still the first series!

Our prices for the larger sets are typically higher than in the US, and they can't claim shipping costs as we are closer to the factory! I guess we are just suckers....

I can say from my own experience that I've seen the basic ponies sell from $5.00 at Wal-mart, $5.04 at Target, $5.99 at Toys R' Us, and $8.99 at K-mart. However, when it comes to play sets and deluxe ponies I've seen prices randomly higher and lower at all of the place. I saw Fluttershy's Nursery Tree at Wal-mart for $14.97 but then Toys R' Us had Applejack's Apple Farm for $12.99 and I got a steal at Target for Rarity's Royal Gem Carriage for $2.04 on clearance.

Of all the places I've shopped though, I primarily look at Target. I've seen them get the newer waves a month sooner from the other places and every once in a while, they're on sale or on clearance. Not to mention their Canterlot selection of ponies that no one else carries. However, I am jealous and looking forward to Toys R' Us exclusive sets coming out in August and plan on getting 2 sets, 1 to open and 1 to save.

However, as far as money vs. size goes, it's mainly due to the oil used for making plastics. I was collecting and playing D&D tabletop minis and they went from $10 a box for 10 figures to $14.99 a box for 6 over a span of 4 years. So sadly, the G3's and G3.5's came out when oil was $40 a barrel vs. the $90+ a barrel of today... :/ I've wondered what the inflation rate has been these past 10+ years. I still remember working at a gas station in college after 9-11 when gas went from $1.29 a gallon to $1.80 over a few weeks. People then were outraged and talking about not buying gas at such a high price.... if only they would have seen what the prices are today. :( I was also able to live on $30 every 2 weeks back then for groceries and now it costs me nearly $80 every 2 weeks for food. Not to mention everything else in our lives we pay for. Well... those were the good old days I'm afraid now.

Have fun collecting my pony friends and may peace come to you in all steps of your life.

The G4's in my local supermarket cost £4, which if I've converted it correctly, is $6.20. This seems extremely expensive looking at the prices you guys are listing.

On the contrary, that's not bad. The most expensive seem to be $9, the cheapest $5, with playsets normally more. If $6.02 is for a single, that seems average.
