Hello all, well for the first time ever I have to move out of home and with my ponies.

I have to pack them all up to bring them with me, and I want to know of any experiences of what to do and what not to do?
I have the zip-lock sandwich bags in the hundreds for them and a huge plastic container to put them in. Is there anything else I need to get for proper storage? I'm mostly concerned for my G1's as they have that softer plastic. Any help would help me greatly! Very anxious please help!

The thing I am most happy about in this situation is that I get to keep them all :smilepony: I'm so glad about that!

Please help, so anxious! Don't want to give them cancer or mould or anything like that! :cry2:

Make sure where you're storing them isn't too hot, as that could cause cancer and whatnot. I'd say keeping them in ziplock bags would be fine, and if they're packed nicely then nothing bad should happen.
If you want to keep the manes nice still, I'd wrap the tail around the back legs and if the mane is long enough I'd wrap that around the front hooves. I've never had to move with ponies myself, but this is what I would do.

Yup, I think Crumpet has it nailed. You have the ziplock baggies and hard plastic container to protect your darlings, the only other thing I might suggest is maybe some white tissue or fabric to further pad out your ponies. Try and keep them dry and not too warm and you should be fine!

And good luck with the move :)

If you're going to be putting them in ziploc baggies, DO NOT seal them. That's a sure fire way for them to start getting mold. Just leave them open, and if you can find a couple of silica packets (those little packets that are in shoe boxes and whatnot) toss those in the container. That will keep away moisture.

Make sure to pack them pretty tightly in the container. I'm not sure what kinds of containers you got, but I wouldn't stack loose ponies on top of each other. They're likely to get squished over time. If you can still get them, the bins that are only a few inches high are perfect. They're just tall enough to fit (most) ponies standing upright.

If you're storing them for a while, do not put them anywhere that gets really hot, damp, or humid.

Sounds like good advice above-

The only thing I would add is to buy some silica gel (you know, that stuff that comes in the little packets in your new shoes) - and store it along with them- especially if you are putting ponies in baggies- especially if they will be in storage. I use this stuff in all my doll/pony storage bins.

It will help keep them from getting too moist and getting pindot or other molds

Here's a link to what I'm talking about: Amazon.com: Dry-Packs 3gm Cotton Silica Gel Packet, Pack of 20: Home & Kitchen

I always wrap WHITE! streamer around their neck to keep the hair in shape and I collect all those tiny silicone packages from shoe boxes, handbags and other stuff I buy and throw one of them to the pony in the ziplock bag to get possible moisture absorbed. I think a teaspoon of rice would do the same.

thanks everyone, i have done everything plus added in dehumidifiers into the boxes and the shoe things too :) i'm going to be keeping them out in the box with me when i go so i can check up on them! :) still nervous as though but i guess i will be until this is all over!

As an alternative to the little silica packets in each ziplock bag... I have a question.

I have my ponies in ziplock bags, and in cardboard boxes (up in my room, currently) for storage. They're zipped closed, as I don't want them sliding out of the bags. I don't think humidity really is an issue, but...

in lieu of having the bags open... would using a holepunch to punch holes into the bags work? To get a bit of airflow? (Does that make sense, what I'm saying, here?)

Uftaki, that sounds all right. I've done that myself with ziplock bags; I've had tons of ponies in storage for years and none have developed any mold, further mold or other problems.

And on the matter of packing ponies, one advice to add to the list of BIG no-nos..
Do NOT under any circumstances use rubberbands or elastic hairbands to keep their hair wrapped around necks and legs.
I've received a boxful of ponies (50-60 ponies) that aaaaalllll had gotten permnanent marks after the rubberbands around their necks, and I've previously seen colored hairbands give off color on to the hair and plastic. Ick! Big no-no! Do what Crumpet said, that keeps the hair nice and the pony free from harm :)

PS: Congrats on moving to both you and your ponies ;)

These are some useful tips! Thanks for sharing , would not have thought to do some of that stuff.

I had mine packed up for years in cardboard boxes with kleenexes in between them to keep them from rubbing and didn't have any problem.

They were in a dry location and I wanted them to have some airflow. I don't personally like to put them in ziplock bags, but some folks swear by it.

Uftaki, we're in essentially the same climate, we do have enough humidity to worry about if ponies are being sealed up too tight.

Yep, bagging can be a great thing. I have mine bagged because bare ponies touching each-other can cause staining- especially true of any that have the tendency to get "sticky" like big brothers or Twinkle eyes. I have a would be stunning gingerbread with a hot pink side from the pink pony she was stored with, the pink pony had a faded mark from gingerbread... bought them from a childhood collection after being in a box for more then a decade.

But yeah, they're in fold tops with the tops folded so they don't slide out, with extra airholes (used a hole punch). I also used acid free tissue as well around ponies and fluffed that around the box too so there's better airflow and the boxes aren't stuffed tight. :)

Oh, I always let any pony air-dry for at least a month after a wash before storing or selling/trading her. A pony can seem dry after a few days but still have a little water inside.

I have them in two plastic boxes, each pony is wrapped in colourless tissue paper, each in a open zip lock bag that is just folded in half to stop them falling out, and I have left their hair out as a lot need a re-styling anyway!
I have 2 dehumidifiers in each box to keep them dry (they are ones for clothes for on boats and damp places to stop mould and dampness so I think they will help :satisfied:). And there is nothing heavy on top of the boxes so they shouldnt get squished. They aren't that heavy in the box so they shouldn't be squished!
I think this should be ok, please let me know if anything is a big no-no! And thanks all for the tips!
