Just goes to show that ponies pop up in the strangest of places... I liberated this magazine from the laundromat today :) It's an article from the April 1987 issue of 'Crochet World':

Aren't they darling?! I know they made my day :p If anyone would like, I can e-mail you the PDF file of the pattern, it won't let me attach it for some reason

I remember my mother having this when I was young. Many of my chs hood ponies sported some very ...fetching... ensembles!

That is so adorable! Woo! All dressed up!

Oh how cute!

I'll pm you sweet. Just a thought though if you use lower ply wool or crocheting cotton they'll look a lot less bulky. I make hats and scarfes with baby wool and that's about as thick as you'd want to go.

Funny! I would recommend #10 crochet thread on ponies, it's a smaller scale and look better on ponies. But I'm not sure how it would translate from the original pattern using a thinner yarn.

It'll probably just come out a little bit tighter/smaller. Depends on how fine the yarn is!
Or... you'll just have to increase the stitches by comparing the suggested yarn size to the fine yarn you have P: Just gotta take care around the interesting parts like the sleeves.. I had to do this with a (pony related) project recently because one of my yarn was fine too, and since I wanted a matching pair of amigurumi ponies, I didn't want them coming out different sizes.. so yeah, you'll need to compensate, and keep testing your crochet piece as you go along.
