Yikes!

I got an auction lot the other day, and in it were a bunch of SLH ponies. I am doing my best to brush out hair and stuff, and right now I am working on Precious Gem's hair.

I normally wouldn't touch it due to the curls, but her hair is a mess. Right now I am just combing it out and sticking it in foam curlers (tail is one curler, and the mane colors - blue, purple, pink, will be in another curler). It seems like the curlers are actually curling the hair though, as I took one out and it was curly already and her hair is not wet (I have not given her a bath yet).

Would you try to do : Straight hair, slightly curly hair, or attempt to put the massive amounts of curls back in her hair?

And would wetting the hair take out the product to hold the curls? Her hair is currently a tiny bit sticky.

Oh - and I have a Rainbow Flash with dredlocks - any ideas on how to tackle that issue?? LOL
 
Hehe, well, you saw the patience I have for long matted hair in my Rainbow Flash thread.. lol

I pretty much just combed her out from the ends and worked my way up with tons of conditioner. You'll probably have to boil straighten when your done to try to get all the hair to lay evenly.. When that didn't work with the ends of mine, she got chopped and got a short 'do..

As far as Precious Gem goes, my solution was to buy her MIB and leave her in it.. lol..
I'd hate to think of all the work it would take to get her back to something similar to her original curl. Basically, a straw boil perm would probably work. When I look at the one I have in box, it looks like her hair is curled in 1 plug sections.. So, I would say that she was probably originally haired with curly hair so each plug is pretty much a separate looking curl. Maybe you could curl it in bigger sections and after it's dry carefully separate each plug out? But, the reason it looks the way it does is because each one doesn't perfectly line up I would say.
Me personally, there's no chance in heck I'd go through that much effort to make it look original. But, that's me, I don't even like styling my own hair.
I would probably part her mane down the middle and then wrap each color around it's own straw on each side of the part. Then there'd be like 6 separate ringlets. Well, unless I got scissor happy again.. lol
 
I did on Precious Gem's, has gone to straight hair when I had her in few years ago.
 
I took Rainbow Flash apart because of tail rust. When I started taking the metal that holds her tail together away from her tail, her tail started falling apart in my hands. So, I am trying to figure out what to do now. I think I may just wait until I can find a bait with a good tail.

Her mane is still a mess though. I have deep conditioned it, but will do the hot water/comb thing, and then iron if need be.

I am sad her tail was so bad.
