I could have sworn I saw online somewhere awhile back about a pony that came out prior to the first line of flat generation 1 ponies that was the same pose as the flat foots?

Well I came across this pony at my local swapmeet:

And I snatched it up for my 5 year old for Christmas.

I was wondering if this is rare, how much it's worth or if it's even collectible? If it is collectible, I might lay down some strict guidelines for "play" of it (such as no scribbling all over it, no cutting the hair... although it does look like a hair job wouldn't hurt it XD).

And if she ever grows out of and doesn't want to keep it, I could advise her to sell it... XD

(Oh how collecting intermixes with actual childhoods).

Anyhoodle, any information would be appreciated! If it's not collectible, not a problem I'll pretty much tell her to have at it.

Yes it's My Pretty Pony, MLP's precursor.

My Pretty Pony (1981)

She absolutely has value and is a collectible, I think she's somewhat uncommon to come by. I saw an eBay listing end where she was in great condition for $30 dollars.

It's called My Pretty Pony, and I think it is pretty rare. I'm not sure exactly how much it's worth, though.

Here is some more information.

Congrats! That's an awesome find!
A few years ago the Brown My pretty pony (the one you have) was still HTF, but not terribly expensive or sought after unless she had the box and accessories (guessing because shipping can be a little prohibitive on larger items like that). Recently though, her demand and price have come up, so if you did want to exchange her for other ponies for your little girl I'm sure you wouldn't have problems to find someone willing. There's also a pink pretty pony who looks like a MLP- has a symbol! The pink one even the box had a rainbow on it with the same font that was used for the MLP logo. :D

Oh- the hair can be fixed. I use a wire cat slicker, conditioner and a flat iron on the LOWEST setting and the hair straightens out again beautifully, my brown PP was even more matted then yours- so bad I figured that new hair would most likely be in order. Test a small section first though, if your iron runs hotter then mine/others on low it can melt the hair.

Wow, what an awesome find! Congrats!

I hope i can find a MPP one day!
Does anyone know if they were sold in Australia?

Thanks for all the neat advice! I'll definitely be trying a hair iron on the hair- also there are some scuffs on the other side of the body, I may get around to getting pics to inquire about restoration.

Such a neat piece of Hasbro history!

I had her for a while but sold her because she is just too big. She came in a lot with some normal G1 ponies. I didn;t pay much for it, like aorund $20?
From what I have seen, she isn't found that often but she also isn't very expensive either.

I think there is also a snuzzle version of her as well???

She's actually the easier one to clean because the type of plastic. All I used on mine was a Magic Eraser to clean the scuff marks off. Just make sure that the trigger under her chin will move her eyes, ear and tail.

Actually I believe it is a Peachy version as it isn't gray. There are supposed to be two brown versions too. One with a spot on the rump and one without. One of the versions came with a Butterscotch (I believe) and it was supposed to be her baby. If I remember correctly the Peachy version is the rarer of the three.

Awesome find! I would be stoked to find one.

Here's the pink one that looks like peachy (or snuzzle, same hair symbol):

They're really easy to clean. I bought the pink one in the auction photo above so did nothing with her, except wipe off some dust, but my brown girl was in "well loved" condition. If there's a film on the eyes (can be common- like a white film), q-tips can remove that dipped in a little dish liquid water. I use a cloth wrung out with dish liquid water to wipe down the body. Scuffs, marks, general cleaning magic erasers are great if used gently, if you really rub hard you'll leave an area with a sanded mark (melamine foam does lift up the dirt but it is also like a very fine sandpaper). *edit to add: Do not use acetone! It will melt mark the abs plastic.

The hardest is brushing out tangles from the hair so you can straighten it! I squish in all sorts of conditioner and mash it into the mats with my hands, start at an end and try to pull apart more sections of hair with my fingers to slowly brush out.) In the end you have an 80's teased do instead of mats. lol. Once you get those mats out though it's really easy to section off and and iron.

great find!!!
thats a great one to find second hand since shipping can double her cost!!
love to see her makeover!!:cheshire:

Congratulations! I had that as a kid! I loved her!

Also, I am pretty sure that Megan's real pony in the pilot episode was based off of that. Or I like to think so anyway.

Good find. Enjoy cleaning her up. She'll look gorgeous when she is done!

Oh you are so lucky. I have been looking for one of those for 15 years! Tell your little girl to play with her nicely. She would sell for a fair amount in the UK I think.

Well, this is what I've come up with.

Brushed the snot out of the poor mane and tail, soaked it in a bowl of watered-down conditioner, which resulted in pony soup.

After the treatment, here's the results:

bought a Magic Eraser afterwards and got all the random marks and scuffs off.

Yes, MLP's ancestor. :) I got the Peachy one at a thrift store a few months ago. (I have yet to fix her... my cats knocked her off of my wall unit)
