Question about that 'other' post

Don't want to start anything too controversial or flame-y here, but if I recall correctly, don't the Flutter Ponies worship the Sun in "The End of Flutter Valley"? And doesn't that make them pagans? I always presumed that the ponies were pagans/mystics because they reside in a world of magic and witches and supernatural powers. The G1s at least. I'm pretty sure there was plenty of Sun/Moon/Nature worship going on in Dream Valley. The G3 line seems far less magical and therefore allows more room for "popular human belief systems" to be integrated. But it all seems reflective of the american culture wars right now . . .wonder where it'll all end up?

well my memory of the old stuff is pretty fuzzy, but i don't remember seeing any actual WORSHIPPING in g1... i mean, was anyone really going around "hail the sun! o magickal unicorn ponies, i pray you keep me safe this day!" just because there WAS magic doesn't mean they WORSHIPPED magic.

When the flutter ponies do do their sun "worshiping" or whatever. The G1's had offerings but they didn't really know what kind of situation they were getting into. At least I thought i saw uneasiness.

I never really thought the ponies "worshiped" anything. They just lived in harmony with the nature.

And lets face it. The ponies aren't real - they don't exist and therefor can not worship anything.
It's humans behind it all.
The ponies doesn't do or think anything really. It's all humans.
Therefor I can't really see a point in arguing over "what the ponies like/worship or not"

I have to agree with you, to me ponies never had anything to do with any religion.
And it's rather pointless to argue what they did or did not worship, as they are not real. :p

The flutter ponies didn't worship the sun. They sang a song about how the sun brings everything to life, ad they were protecting their sunstone because it kept their valley alive. I don't think they were worshiping anything.

The song "From the Sun" was basicaly just saying how it makes things grow and makes people/ponies happy, they wweren't going " oh mighty sun we give to you our first born" or anything like that LOL (and befor eyou go off on me that wasn't a stab at pagans i AM pagan so don't think that please lol).

anywho. that's how i saw it, a happy kinda annoyingly so diddy about the sun, and the protection of their sun stone cos if the witches got it everything would die. Nothing do to with religion, worship, anything like that.

wow we read waaaay to far into ponies ^_^

I just think they're cute, and subject to human interferance and culture patterns.

i agree. :D

And if they worshippd anything, it was the sunstone. I mean, those bees stole the stone...the sun was still there and their valley still died. *shrugs*

...

Ponies, somewhat always seemed to exemplify tolerance, as well as teach other good values that every child should know of and use in daily life. They were ponies, so of course their world would be surrounded by nature. Besides, whether or not an all-powerful being created it or not, the sun does bring a lot of life to the Earth. I don't think they were meant to represent any certain religion.

In light of all this though, how many people who collect ponies do have pagan tendencies? How many have christian?

It would seem to me that people who are pagan might like ponies for their magical/mystical value. Whereas, people who are christian value them for their good morals.

It is unfair for any religious group to classify ponies into some religious sect. After all, that is a human tendency. In my opinion, the makers of the animated show were plain and simply geniuses. I will be much more inclined for my kids to watch MLP episodes in the future than some of the garbage that people come up with today.

Besides, at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself two questions:

How long have I been collecting ponies and why?

Then, how many times have my religious views changed in that timeframe - even ever so slightly?

I'm still trying to figure out how someone decided to encorperate religion with some cartoon ponies. :?

They are toys! Toys doesn't belong to any religious sect what so ever... It's just ridicoulus

I like them not because they are "christian" toys or whatever other religous toys they are - cuz' they are not religious toys. I like them cuz' they are ponies and pretty too look at and I loved them as a child because they were pretty and so on and that grew with me.
Like I said in the other post. I'm an atheist. And to me these things doesn't represent any religion what so ever cuz' they are toys.
Want something that represent a religon? Get a Bibel =P

Well, here's the song the flutters sing on "Sun Tuesday", the day of their festival.

From the sun comes light,
From the sun comes power,
It's the sun up high in the sky
That makes the flowers flower.
From the sun comes warmth,
From the sun comes daytime,
It's the sun and its light gleaming bright
That brings the fruit in Maytime.
Winter, summer, spring, and fall,
The sun shines through it all.
From the sun comes warmth,
From the sun comes daytime!
Here's to the sun up above--
From the sun, from the sun, from the sun
Comes love!

And the second part of the song, sung at the end of the show:

From the sun comes life,
From the sun comes power.
When the sun starts to rise in the sky,
The flowers start to flower.
From the sun comes hope,
From the sun comes laughter.
With the sun in its place we'll embrace
A happy ever after.
Summer, winter, fall, and spring,
It makes the whole world sing.
From the sun comes hope,
From the sun comes laughter,
Here's to the sun up above--
From the sun, from the sun, from the sun
Comes love!

Okay . . . The stuff about the sun making the flowers flower and giving warmth and daytime is literally true. But since they're saying the sun is the source of hope, laughter, and love, I would say that the flutter ponies do indeed worship the sun (not to mention they do have a Sun Festival and a shrine built to the Sunstone.) :)

But the flutter ponies were so isolated from the regular ponies (until the movie) that the other ponies probably wouldn't have the exact same beliefs. Personally, I've always thought the "regular" ponies worship the rainbow. :)

Oh, how about the Furbobs in that episode? I thought they had a hippy vibe. All that incense while they were curing Baby Cuddles' leg . . .

Seriously, though, I like the idea of MLPs having their own little culture/religions/holidays. I like to make mine a little less "suburban middle America" than Hasbro's view of them.

Ponies are just ponies. why do they have to wo9rship anything at all? cant they live their life without something to worship and be happy? I agree we read too much into something that was created simply as a toy for us to enjoy. enjoy them however you please.

Heh, has anyone read "turmoil in the toybox"? Its about 80's cartoon and there occult worshiping satanism and stuff. Its by some EXTREME religious fanatic.
