Step 1. I recommend that your custom should be mostly done. The raised painting will be delicate.

Step 2. Paint what will be your 3D design one dimensional . Paint all the details, trust me it helps.

Step 3. Make your mixture. Mod Podge Outdoor is really thick you will need to dilute it with water. You need it thin enough to behave like a liquid but thick enough to manipulate with your paint brush tip. But you do not want it thick enough to leave lumps.

Step 4. Apply (paint) your thinned Mod Podge to your design one layer at a time. Let each layer dry before adding the next. You will know it is dry when it is clear and no longer milky.
Step 5. Keep applying until you have the thickness and look you want. This works best with small designs.

Step 5-5. But if you make a bigger design you will need to layer smaller versions of your design. To give it a nice round mound. If you do not you raised painting will have a flat top. Your larger raised design can be evened out by painting thin layers of your mixture.

Step 6. Keep painting on any 3D details you need.
Step 7. When dry paint your design and seal as usual. Let this cure for a few days.
