Removing Magnets?

I've had a really hard time getting the magnets out of some G3 "hooves" lol They're bait ponies that I'm going to customize but I can't for the life of me get their magnets out. I've tried submerging them in hot water for a minute or so, which made them soft enough to pop their heads off. But it didn't soften them enough to get the magnets out and I'm afraid I might damage them if I pry them out with a tiny flathead screwdriver.

I've run an X-acto knife (gently) around the edge of the magnet to loosen the glue. No too deep!

Then I stick a flat scredriver under and they pop right out!
