Hey Everyone,

Hope you don't mind me asking for some restoration advice. I know that I'm a newbie, but I have done some extensive research on this forum and on other websites and can't seem to find a fix for my particular problem.

Last week I picked up a great collection of G1 ponies from Craigslist. Most were in good condition. But this sad little Sprinkles really needs some TLC. Her head is a completely different color than her body. They look like two different ponies were combined. I will post a pic..

I would really appreciate any advice you can give to get her all nice and matching again! Thanks in advance :satisfied:

Sprinkles seems to be like that quite often. Majesty too. :( I have two of Majesty and both have had this head mismatch... I don't know if it's a factory flaw, and they used a different sort of plastic when casting the heads, but it seems really sad.

I've had one Majesty (who needed rehairing anyway) sat on my windowsill for the past six months. Her head seems a bit less yellowed but it might just be my eyes playing tricks. It looks whiter than the other Majesty who arrived last week anyway, so maybe you can try sunfading?

Alternatively, if anyone else has solutions/ideas, I too would love to know! :)

Thanks so much for your reply! It's good to know that this is a common problem with Sprinkles. I thought either sun fading or dying would be my only options. I will try the sun fading first.

It is pretty strange that they are so different. Maybe it is some kind of factory defect.

I have seen this plenty of times with various ponies. As far as I understand it is just caused by fading/discolouring from sitting in the sun over the years. However I have no idea why the head fades and not the rest of the body other than maybe it is more exposed from the way they stand if displayed. Unfortunately I don't think there is any real way to repair it other than fading the rest of the body to match. I am always really cautious when displaying my ponies to make sure they are not in direct sunlight to prevent damage.

Oh darn! That stinks. I have a lot of old action figures that have this problem. Their arms and legs are darker than their torsos. I think with them it is a difference in type of plastic. My north star has a slightly yellower head. I've never done sun fading for lightening purposes. Only for killing molds.
