well, I was really pleased to win a recent auction till I got my shipping quote! She wants $14.99 to ship a baby pony from Canada to me here in the UK. She says this is to cover S&H and insurance. Now, when I read her auction she says you must insure your items, which I took as meaning she will not be held responsible for lost items not shipping is not optional. She goes on in her spiel that the item is quoted in some collectors price guide (i dont believe she says which one) as being worth $65.00, seen here for a low start of $24.99. Does it sound to anyone else like she is trying to jack the price since I won it for $31.00, or is it just me being really cynical? If anyone has any input, be it prices etc, please do reply!

Sounds to me like price-jacking. Then again, I'm cynical about that kind of thing too. I really don't think 14.99 is the right amount for S&H of a baby pony.

while shipping from canada to the UK is probably on the pricey side, i doubt it's THAT pricey. plus, shipping rarely comes out to an even number like $14.99. she's almost certainly price-jacking.

re

I suppose it's possible to cost that much. If it goes registered airmail with insurance. But even then I don't think it would be that much.

It sounds high to me but just some things I have heard bouncing around and I'm not sure they are 100% correct...

Letter post in Canada can now only be paper items?

Paypal buyer protection requires not only proof of mailing but now proof of delivery?

In regards to the insurance value...I'm not sure why she would want to insure higher than what you paid...I would think if an item is lost then everyone just wants to get their out-of-pocket back. Confused on that one :?

I don't think it costs that much to ship 1 baby pony airmail to the UK. I could find out for you tomorrow when I go to the post office.

i've heard stories of people trying to scam insurance that way, though. this lady bought a damaged item, bought insurance, and then filed an insurance claim stating the item was damaged (duh) and claimed for the $200 the item was worth, NOT the $20 she paid for it!

I went to the canada post website and I got roughly 6.95 cdn but that is just me guessing how big and how much the package weighs. Bt I will find out exactly how much it would be.

Re:

It is high. I sent a large package of ponies from the US to the UK for $18...airmail. Granted, I'm not sure what Canada's postal costs are.

Regardless of how much the pony is worth in the seller's opinion, it's how much you actually paid for it that counts on the insurance. Don't let her try to trick you. If there is no invoice saying you paid the amount she claims the insurance for, then no matter what happens to the package neither of you will get a refund. She can't legally ask you to send insurance for more than what you paid for it. I would do some snooping around.

Ok, now I am getting cross! This was the email I sent her yesterday:

Hi There!
>
>Thanks for my invoice. However, could I ask you to check the shipping
price
>you quoted me? I ship ponies to, and have ponies shipped from America
and
>Canada all the time, and It usually only costs me $6.00 at the most,
for an
>adult pony. Thanks in advance!
>
>Gail~BKC

And the reply I got today (early this morning before I went to work):

i'm sorry but that is how much it costs. is must be insured (as said on
the
auction) also there is packaging and S&H costs. thus the price i quoted
is
the right one. sorry but we dont pay for your shipping.

And now, Ive just logged into my emails to this:

hi i still haven't gotten ay payment from you. you can not bid on things and not pay them thats not how ebay works.

For Goodness sakes!! It onbly ended on the 5th!!!!

So, next question, how do I prove to her she is overcharging? I want the pony, but I cant stand being ripped off with postage! Maybe I could have it shipped to someone here in Canada?
And, I am right in thinking with ebay I have 7 days to pay unless the auction states otherwise?

lol you think that is bad I was looking at a lot on Ebay and was thinking it was not going to high so I was about to bid when something told me to calculate the shipping and it was out ragous. The shipping for a lot of 11 ponies and two videos was coming up as $57.07 for US Postal Service Parcel Post and $31.62 UPS Ground.

and that is only 11 g3s by the way.

you have 14 days to pay unless the auction states otherwise :)

I believe anyway, ebays policy is 14 days.

I would think the only option would be to pay the price and when the package arrives take a picture of the box before opening it and then another after opening it to show the box (new or used) and also a picture of the postage stamp. Then you could claim through ebay or paypal to get the different back - especially if they re-used packaging. That would be the only idea that I would have.

Ugh, okay, that last e-mail was just rude.

You can't "prove" to her she's overcharging until she ships the item and you have it in hand. Then you can turn around and go "This was overpriced, I asked you to make sure it was right and you obviously didn't. I want a refund of the extra."
And then, if she doesn't, you can always neg her.

I'd love to know the seller's ID so I can stay away from them.

I hate stuff like that! Sorry you are having to deal with that. You might just need to pay and then file a claim for excessive shipping.

I'm having troubles with shipping on auctions too, there are two sellers that sent me invoices yesterday, they were each for three ponies (one being a baby pony in one set), and one wants 12.00 to ship and one wants 10.00 to ship. They are both in the US as am I.

They had high shipping, which the only reason I bid on items was because though the shipping quote for one pony was high, they both stated in their auctions that they combine shipping on multiple wins, I sent them both e-mails regarding how much it costs to ship three ponies and have yet to hear back.

Another seller I won about 8 ponies from, claimed combined shipping and when she sent my invoice it was for 20.00 for shipping. When I said something about it she knocked off 2.00 and said the auction stated it was 1.50 per item, which it didn't. And that by knocking off the 2.00 it meant she couldn't afford to wrap them individually so they would just be thrown in a box *rme*

The problem is, ebay does not state it clearly enough what excessive "handling" charges are. It's very vague and very muddled, and they do nothing about it. I am all for a reasonable handling charge, I probably wouldn't even complain about 3.00 handling charge, but when you say you combine shipping, you should honor that and there should only be one handling charge.

Hi, I live in Canada, and thats not right!
1 pony could be sent in a bubble envelope (unless you want it boxed)
We have letter post which is for envelopes up to 500g or just over a lb. At the most this costs $11.60 cdn. In the post office you can pick up postage pre paid envelopes.
If it is sent in a box, we have somthing called smll parcel service where small package are sent for $5-6 cdn.
Also, whenever I have asked to ship anything and I want to purchase insurance I'm told that packages are already insured for up to $100.00 cdn and you only purchase insurance if it is more than this.

So.... unless she's wrapping it in gold.....

There should be a sticker somewhere on the package when you recieve it stating the postage cost so you know what she paid. and come on how much does a small box and a handful of tissue paper cost!?
Most likely $8-15 of that is going in her pocket!!!

Can you tell stuff like this bugs me?

Fluffythighs, Ive put a warning on the Trader FB board!
