This was the question posed to me by my husband when he commented on how there are so few boy ponies in relation to all the girl ponies. I told him, the boy ponies are "Big Brother" ponies and not necessarily romantically involved with any specific pony unless they are from the family sets or Tux. He then asked me, well then where do all the baby ponies come from? I pondered for a minute trying to remember if baby pony origins were ever explained in one of the show's episodes or perhaps on the back of one of the original baby pony backcards. Unable to come up with an answer, I told him to stop being a stupid boy and questioning everything and banished him from the pony room. This however has left me kind of curious if the baby pony origins were ever explained, I feel like they were somewhere but I just can't remember.

The comics said that G1 Dream Valley ponies come from a magic mirror that Majesty has. The ponies wished to have babies? And they got young clones of themselves and named them after themselves.

I'd go with the big brothers+friends theory. Like how all the girls at my lunch table had a crush on my brother in high school!
:shockpony: :QB: (if there was a pukepony emoticon I'd insert it here)

:hysterical:

But seriously, the mirror thing is the only official explanation I've heard. But what I want to know is where G3s come from :surprisepony:

That's kind of creepy.

I've always believed the stork brought them.

This is all too funny Gingerbread and thank you for the laugh this morning. How charming that they came from the magic mirror, I didn't know that. Cute idea but then where did the big brothers come from if not cloned from the mother? hrm...

The question stands is where did all the baby ponies come from that DON'T look like any of the adult Ponies! I'm talking about Baby Tiddly-Winks, Baby Half-Note...do you KNOW how many sets of twins there were? Who the heck was popping twins out of that mirror en masse?? That poor mirror must be exhausted...and so must be the big brothers! :winkpony:

I think the twins came from pinkie pie's magic pond .... XD

well, when a mommy pony and a daddy pony love each other very much............

Well, there was one pregnant pony who gave birth....or...had a c section???

and then there were the cakes in G4....

when a mare and stallion love each other very very much...
*EDIT* NOOO SOMEONE ALREADY WROTE THAT!!!

Well, I guess none of these ideas are as far fetched as them popping up out of cabbages...oh, the 70's :winkpony:

Bless adult men that over-analyze children's cartoons! *glances at my hubby thinking about the last time we watched The Little Mermaid and The Lion King*

Perhaps all of the stray babies were the result of the smooze episode.... :surprisepony:

I had always wondered!!

I'd assumed ponies were like clownfish, when there are only 2 or if they're all the same gender, the largest one will swap genders.
Ohhh nemo, it would not have been such a cute movie had it followed real life trends. With pet store clown fish you get 3, the largest one regardless of gender will swap gender to female, then she will select a male she likes and the two beatup the third. The act of killing/beating up the non-paired fish bonds the two stronger. Sooo Marlin would have become a female at the loss of his wife.

hmmmm ponies like clown fish..... for g3 that might work

Ouch, right in the G3 childhood! :surprisepony:
Although I think I had an even number growing up, since half were mine and half were my sister's.

Learn something new every day, I had no idea clownfish were like that. As for G3's, I wonder who would turn into males and who would stay females? I think Pinkie Pie would definitely stay a girl, lol. I could see Waterfire as a boy.
