This forum is sooo nice, sometimes too nice I think! last year I decieded to sell my Pokemon collection (Cause I have not been into Pokemon since 01!) so I asked if anyone knew anything here about where to get information on pokemon things (Some of the items I had never were on ebay so I could not even phantom what their worth was!!!) Basically I needed the help of current collectors. I was advised to go to this one pokemon site and ask there. I did, I got balled out for trying to take advantage of collectors and "how dare I come here an try to just sell my stuff!" First I was only trying to get PC's, and if someone liked something they saw in the pictures they could ask me about it! I thought my questions would be answered in the manner that people answer PC questions! I apologized and started commenting of other parts of the forum to become more of a member....which was hard cause from 2001 to 2010 there are just WAAAAY too many pokemon to keep up with (Hense why I quit collecting!!! Could not keep up with all the new info!!) All to no avail cause I became like condemed!!!

Anyways my problem is I personally, do not like people who come here, are NOT collectors, Never have been, and get lucky enough to come across some ponies and ask for help, PC, advice, whatnot...then when they get the help they need, put the items on ebay or where ever...Not even looking at the condition, but want top price, and list a link here. OR they put posts here of items for sale, for a large price and think just cause we are collectors, we're gonna be silly enough to dish that money out to someone we don't even know? I realize everyone has to start somewhere, but you can tell those kinds of people are NOT going to become avid collectors, and are using our forum to get rich off of pony's! OR the people who say "Hi, I want to buy ______ for my kid, they just love ponies, but don't have alot of money!" and ask for things in that are not common or rather pricey...over, and over, and over....just say your a collector already, or your building your kid a collection...but don't play us like, hey if I mention my kid I can get a better deal!!! (Cause no one wants to disappoint kids, right?) and the fact that you say you don't have alot of money, why are you buying your kids toys then? I mean collector toys, that come with a price...you either have a grand collection or your gonna have one spoiled kid!!!

Sorry for the rant, it just seems like there are lots of new people on here doing this nowadays! Its insulting, I love this place...and I can understand why I got chewed out on the pokemon forum now! Just get to know the people of the forum first before throwing your stuff out there to sell, and if you don't clean a pony up before sale, don't expect to get the awesome price of a pony someone spent time to make look good! Am I the only one who feels like this?

Vastly overpricing or, trying to guilt someone into selling something for significantly less then value are two things that do bother me.

It's strange you got such a bad reaction trying to sell some things at this pokemon forum? I'm always pleased when opportunities to add new ponies to my collection come along, and that happens often when people find the TP just to sell ponies. I can understand folks being wary of scams, but with PayPal's policy it's much safer now being a buyer rather then a seller (years ago this wasn't the case). I've bought many, many ponies (and sometimes almost the whole collection!) off folks who showed up here just to sell a childhood collection or things they found second hand, and had wonderful transactions.

I love when non-collectors find the forums and use our help to price and sell ponies. I also love that members are very sweet and helpful to newcomers. Some other non-pony forums I've been to almost haze newer members, when I was new, I was so happy that this was not the case with the TP. It's really amazing to me when people came here just to sell childhood ponies, or ponies they found somewhere, then sell them all, end up loving the forums and people here, want to stay & end up being bitten by the MLP bug and become a collector! :)

I must admit I originally joined this forum just to trade my pony cards. I wasn't thinking of cheating anyone but I also wasn't thinking of becoming part of the community. Eventually I found how kind forum goers are here, and only then did I participate..I suppose because its not written or suggested in the rules people just assume they can come in drop a list of things to buy or trade and it'll just work out. That was my thinking for a day or two.

Also, I'm guessing this pokemon forum you went on is heavily frequented by Nintendo fans as well as pokemon fans. Some Nintendo fans are....rather crazy and take things too seriously..(experience from various pokemon trading card/video game tournaments, and video game launch parties). A lot of Nintendo fans are great but you'll run into the serious ones more often online.

This is the only pony place I go. I came here originally because I was moving and wanted to downsize my collection. I end up staying around though because I do still have a collection and do restoring so its nice to learn and share the experience people have.

The new ponies and show don't hurt either. But, I've noticed fandoms of anything tend to sort of turn parasitic after a little bit more if there isn't fresh stuff. Sometimes it's just that people feel invested or prideful too since they've been around since XXXX or whatever and so who are you?

I haven't minded people that come here who aren't collectors themselves. I've dealt with some and helped them if needed and they were quite decent. Frankly I'm so glad they do want to look for knowledgeable sources. Ignoring the important details or misrepresenting something about items is not good. And hopefully most members around here aren't naive enough to fall for tricks. But, some collectors themselves are also guilty of the same bad behavior.

I'm rather nonchalant about it mostly since I get around to a lot of pop culture places online. In the end we have the power of our own choices. So as long as a segment does not end up receiving the attention giving the wrong impression of the whole, I just chalk it up to being a natural facet.

When I returned here not too long ago after a looong break I did notice in the sales part of the forum that there were alot of members selling ponies that only has like 1-2 posts. Something I didn't see much of before when I was last active here (like 4 years ago :p)

I personaly am a little bit apprehensive when it comes to buying from people who do have that low postcount + 0 feedback. If a person has a high postcount and 0 feedback OR good feedback and a low postcount I don't mind. Either way that's a sign to me that they are serious (hopefully).

Now I'm not saying that every new person who just come here to sell their ponies are bad and scammers and so on. Actually I can really see the pros with it that FF mentioned. That it gives us good oppertunitys to add ponies to our collection.

Aslong as they list their ponies approperiatly, give good descriptions, provide pictures and aren't delusional about the prices I can still consider buying from them.
If the salethreads raises red flags for me thoug such as "Hi, I wanna sell HTF ponies!!! Make Offer" I just move along and that's that.

Bottom line is, if you feel uncomfortable with a seller or the way they go about trying to sell something then just ignore it. If it seems legit enough and like a trustworthy person then enjoy the oppertunity of adding new goodies to your collection that wouldn't have arised otherwise :)

I sound like a total hater huh? Sorry bout that!

You all bring up good points, FantasicFirefly: it does give the opportunity to get new ponies and we all have to start somewhere!
Inuranchan: Guess you got bit by the bug, huh? And they are hecka nice here, arn't they (Except for me, I like to bite!!) Jks!
Raemarie: Your right, I am one of those who have been into ponies since they started...I guess that is a little prideful, isn't it? Guess, one has to look in the mirror sometimes and really ask "Now, why did you say that?" There are nice newbi's on here and thoses are not the one's I am complaining about...I guess where this stems from is a long time ago, I was introduced to the forums...and just never posted anything and bought a few things. I also bought from a high rank memeber here and never got my goods...ended up being a big ole thing and I was called a lurker!!! I was insulted cause I have been collecting forever it seems, but if you want to be known you have to speak out!!! I would just like to see more of that from people instead of jumping right on and selling their stuff....lets get to know you!
-Desertrose: Good to be precautious, cause if its too good to be true...well you know! Thats why its like, foreal, lets get to know you! Make a few posts, a few comments, built some trust...You remind me a little of FantsticFirefly in the way that you seem to have wisdom in your words...I do appreciate you both on here, as I appreciate all other members on here for what they have to give to this trading post...and not just physical stuff, but your words, I only hope I can be in that catagory someday!!!

I guess this would be a lesson that even if you were treated someway before, you should not treat others in a similar fashion, because if you didn't like it, surly they wont!

PS I still wish they would stop teasing with a list of items they have then post an ebay link!!! That still gets me!!!
